Marjorie Barcelona's journey from halo halo to Healthy Lemon

Marjorie Barcelona's childhood was filled with the sights and sounds of her mother selling halo halo, a popular Filipino dessert. She was exposed to the business at an early age, witnessing the hard work and dedication it took to prepare the ingredients the night before and then sell the sweet treats to customers. Little did she know that these early experiences would shape her future and lead her to start her own business. Healthy Lemon was born out of Marjorie's desire to create a healthier alternative to traditional desserts. With a focus on using fresh, natural ingredients, she set out to bring a new twist to the dessert industry. As her business grew and flourished, Marjorie never forgot the lessons she learned from her mother about hard work and dedication.

00:51Hi, magandang umaga, and again, this is again, Sunday edition of the Business Mentor Talks.
01:20Today, maganda yung ating pag-uusapan, pag-mi-negosyo, at paano nagsimula itong ating kapanayam,
01:30no?
01:31Paano siya nag-negosyo?
01:32Ano ba talaga?
01:33Sikreto.
01:41with Deaf-Ed and GoNegosyo, tawag nga dyan, Youthpreneur Convergence.
01:52Happy Sunday.
01:53So, my name po is Marjorie Barcelona, Healthy Lemon President and CEO po, brand owner of
01:58Healthy Lemon.
01:59Okay.
02:00So, paano ka nagsimula, Marge?
02:01Paano ka nagsimula mag-negosyo?
02:02So, nag-start lang po ako with my hobby.
02:03Nag-start po ako na nagtitimpla ko ng lemonade sa amin, and then I started na isell siya sa
02:11public ng buy-one-take-one.
02:12Yung po yung concept po that time, kasi gusto ko kami ng partner po, alay kasi kaming dalawa
02:19umaalis.
02:29Pero, what pushed you to become an entrepreneur?
02:31What was, ano bang naging cause na ikaw ay naging gusyante at, you know?
02:45I don't have a knowledge na nung selling, kasi yung mother ko nagsell before sa church,
02:58So, may influence pala yung magulang mo?
03:43But, what really made you decide?
04:03You're trying to answer your why?
04:22Kailangan, you're doing more than you can.
04:44Parang, ah okay, may ganun pala akong feeling.
04:47Akala ko employment na babagsak ulit ko.
04:50Parang ganun.
04:51Okay, but again, so nagkaroon ka na ng ganun at mayroon ka na you feel that obligation.
04:56But now, how did you decide on this project?
05:00Yes, correct.
05:14Sige daw bang gawing negosyo.
05:16Sabi ko, matatakot ako.
05:18Kasi, paano yun?
05:19Diba?
05:20Paano yun?
05:21So, ako naman, malikot ang utak ko.
05:23Pinagtigid lang ko, anong pwede ng partnership ba yan?
05:26Magtatayun ba ako ng branch dun?
05:30So, nag-turn siya into, parang sinyal ko yung idea.
05:34Okay.
05:35How did you develop the concept?
05:37Yung concept ng lemonade?
05:38Paano yan?
05:39Yes, sir.
05:40Pwede siya na ganun muna talaga ako.
05:41Sinagurado ko yung pinaka-idea ko, yung formula.
05:45Ako lang din yung nakakaalam.
05:47At, pasok siya sa market.
05:48Yung higher multi-access.
05:50Kasi nga, sir.
05:51Iniisip ko, kung magpapa-partnership ako with other clients namin,
05:56dapat hanggang Guston Misayas ding danaw na siya.
05:58Kasi I don't know what will happen in the future.
06:00Ang punan ba nakialam sa'yo?
06:03Yung punan issue?
06:04Yung bang...
06:05Malaking factor yung punan.
06:07Pero ito yung sinagurado ko sa'kin.
06:09So, ewan ko iba-iba kasi yung strategy nila.
06:11Hindi muna ko umutang.
06:13Hindi muna ko umutang.
06:14So, ayan na kaibigan.
06:16Hindi siya muna umutang.
06:18Hindi muna ko umutang.
06:19Bakit? Takot ka umutang?
06:20May ganun akong factors.
06:21Bakit yung umubayaran?
06:35So, yun ang first, ano mo?
06:36First...
06:37Challenging factor.
06:38Challenge mo.
06:39Hindi muna ko utang.
06:40Hanggang kapag andang...
06:41Kaya ko.
06:42Okay.
06:43So, magaanong sinumulang mong punan?
06:44Nag-start ako ng P15,000.
06:47Oh, P15,000.
06:49Hindi kailangan malaking-malaking pera, di ba?
06:52P15,000 combine na namin yan that time.
06:54Combine na yan?
06:55Mababa yan.
06:56Pero ano ako yung risk taker.
06:58Kasi may calculation na ako dapat dito kay kitahin ko a day.
07:02Okay.
07:03Sa isang buwan nakaka-survive ako.
07:04Kino-project mo na. Wala ka pang negosyo.
07:06Ito na yung pinag-aaralan mo.
07:07Ito yung kinarabi natin yung business planning.
07:09Yes. Para akong advancement ko sir.
07:11Kasi kailangan prepared. Kailangan yung P15,000 ko maging x3, x4.
07:16So meron ka ng kini-claim mo na yun?
07:18Yes.
07:19Ito yung kini-claim ko siya at that time.
07:30Correct. But you have a plan.
07:32Yes, I have a plan.
07:33You have a roadmap, di ba?
07:34O pag sabi ko, pag ngayon di mabenta, ano? Nagawin ko bookouts.
07:37Correct. Yung mga what-ifs.
07:38Yes.
07:39Di ba yung, wala ka ng mga what-ifs, bahala na.
07:41Yes.
07:42Parang bahala na si Batman. Anong nangyari ito?
07:44Babawi na lang. Parang mga ganun yung, doon talaga yung utak ko that time.
07:48So yun na, doon na siya magsimula sir.
07:50Parang naisip, uy, okay pala to na siya-share ko yung idea ko.
07:54Pero dapat, maganda yung idea ko.
07:55But take a march, hindi ka ba napagod?
07:57Was there a time that you felt na, pagod ako? Nakakapagod pala ito.
08:02So hiyo ko na.
08:03Yes.
08:04Kumasok ba sa isip mo yun?
08:05Yes sir, at one time.
08:06But akala ko hindi siya para sa akin.
08:09Kasi pagod na ako. Ito ba, ito, ito. Balik na lang ako sa employment.
08:13Trouble pa. Parang gano'n.
08:15Correct. Correct.
08:26Yes.
08:27You're focusing on the nitty-gritty but the essential nakakalimutan mo.
08:53O.
08:54Pagdi ka talaga kuminos ngayon, wala.
08:56Correct.
08:57Kaya sabi ko kailangan batalyado.
08:59So how do you see now? Itong business mo ay nagsimula ka. Ilan ang branches na mayroon?
09:05I started with one branch, my own branch. And then now we have 80 franchises.
09:10Saan saan ang mga locations?
09:12Iba-iba sir. Meron sa Ilocos, meron sa Butuar, meron sa Dabao, meron sa Cebu.
09:19Wow.
09:20Meron din sa Palawan.
09:21Oh, very good.
09:22Normally sa ibang mga lugar pa. Provinces eh.
09:26But don't you feel the responsibility?
09:28Malaking responsibility.
09:30Hindi ba mabigat sa shoulder mo yung responsibility? Kasi meron ka mga 80 na mga franchises.
09:39Yes.
09:40Ito nag-i-invest sa iyo. Meron silang pag-asa na tinatanaw.
09:44Yes. Actually it was like a rollercoaster event sa akin.
09:50Okay.
09:51Nung una okay siya kasi I will have income, I will help someone.
09:59Correct.
10:00Dapat meron ka ng management.
10:02Para sabi nga nila, the greater the power comes with greater responsibility.
10:07Correct.
10:08Tapos doon na pumasok na, ah kailangan mag-help ako.
10:10Tama yun.
10:26Take it or leave it.
10:27From there, you take it na lang.
10:29Medyo, hindi maganda yun.
10:31But an entrepreneur who has the ability to know the responsibility is very important.
10:43Malalaking kampanya, talagang strict.
10:45Ako kahit medyo marami na akong franchise, I take it for consideration na parang negosyante din kong mga ito.
10:50Exactly.
10:51Parang quantity nagdaanan ko, nararamdaman din nila.
10:54So, hindi ako ganun ka masyadong kahit it or what.
10:57Pero I have to set the standard.
10:59Correct.
11:00Yan ang mga kailangan.
11:01Yes po.
11:02Meron kang patayan, di ba? Meron kang standard.
11:32Number one is always be grateful.
11:35Always be grateful.
11:42and gustong-gustong mo.
11:44Kung na meron ka now, resource, being resourceful.
11:47Parang namuna doon.
11:49Kaya kung magbuma siya ng maganda, that's good.
11:55Be grateful.
12:00Pero baka you have to learn something from it.
12:02There must be a reason for it.
12:03Be grateful na matututunan mo yung challenges.
12:06Kasi yun ang pinaka-negosyante yung may challenge.
12:09Kung walang challenge, perfect lahat. You will not improve.
12:13There's no such thing as a perfect world.
12:16So yun, be grateful.
12:18Pangalawa?
12:20Next naman po is be humble to everyone.
12:23Correct.
12:24You will never know kung sino mabimit mo sa kaysada, sa daan,
12:29sa somewhere na parang nakakatulong pala sayo.
12:32Sabihin natin, nag-start ka palang, you have to seek for mentors,
12:37you have to seek learnings.
12:40So, achieve mo yun lahat.
12:42Pisin ka lang nang minsan and then image mo kung ano yung para sayo.
12:45So that's humbleness kasi pag minsan sinasabi nga nila,
12:55Exactly.
12:56Parang lumaki na ulong mo.
12:58Di ba? Sabi ron.
13:00And lastly, seek faith to God.
13:04Kasi ako sir, ninawala sakin yun eh.
13:07Na parang, ala, takakahapo naman to.
13:13okay, ibigay mo sa'kin lahat ng problems mo and then I'll be the one to handle it.
13:19Akala ko, ako lang.
13:20Di pala.
13:21So, no man is an island.
13:22Correct.
13:23Anyway, Marge, paano ka nila mga contact?
13:25Ayan, I'm sure.
13:26Meron ka bang Facebook?
13:28Mas madali yung mag-contact mo, mag-connect-connect sa Facebook.
13:30Yes.
13:31You can follow our page, Healthy Lemon page,
13:34if you want to see our franchises or branches na gusto nyo matikman yung lemonade namin.
13:39And also, you can message me on Instagram.
13:42My name is Marjalee Barcelena on Instagram.
13:46If you want to learn about how I started with my business.
13:49Okay.
14:17So again, Marge, maraming salamat.
14:19Thank you so much.
14:20And thank you for the time for this Sunday.
14:21Yes, po.
14:22And I hope your business will grow, flourish, and flourish.
14:25Yes, more power.
14:26But never forget your key cornerstones.
14:28Yes.
14:29Thank you so much.
14:30So, yan ang importante, importante.
14:31Yes, that's true.
14:32And growing the brand.
14:33But again, growing the brand is not just local, ha.
14:36Yes.
14:37It can be global, no?
14:38Hopefully, hopefully.
14:40Okay, hindi namang bawal manganap.
14:42Yes.
14:43Okay, but you always claim that you can do it, no?
14:45Yes, that's true.
14:46Kumbaga nakakapunta ka na sa Mindanao, ano?
14:48Ano po eh?
14:49What's stopping you from even going abroad?
14:52Malay natin soon no, sir. I will learn a lot pa.
15:03Maraming salamat.
15:04Okay, thank you.
15:05Thank you very much.
15:06Thank you.
15:07Thank you.
