00:00Let's change the game!
00:11It's not just for fun because virtual games can also be used as a rehabilitation tool.
00:16That's how immersive health technology was created for UP Manila
00:20to help children with cerebral palsy and people living with dementia.
00:25Let's go! Let's change the game!
00:31The world of virtual reality continues to expand outside of gaming.
00:36Because of this immersive experience, it can also be used as a rehabilitation aid in healthcare.
00:44Let's take a look at the gamified version of therapy sessions for children with cerebral palsy and persons with dementia.
00:51Here in UP Manila, Augmented Experience E-Health Laboratory was created, or AXEL for short.
00:57A research lab that focuses on the creation of various immersive health technologies.
01:02In partnership with UP Diliman and sponsored by DOST Philippine Council for Health Research and Development and NEDA.
01:10First up, the Mission to Planet AXEL.
01:13Headed by Dr. Maria Eliza Ruiz Aguila.
01:16A space-themed virtual game for children with cerebral palsy aged 6 to 12 years old.
01:23There are three main elements of the game.
01:27Balance, strength of mind, and walking.
01:31When those three come to a particular level of movement,
01:36it becomes more challenging for the children in terms of therapy.
01:40So that's what needs to be done to make them happy.
01:42Here, they will be joined by Captain Max in various missions against alien invaders.
01:47When physical therapy is not a concern.
01:50Here in this game, we will train the balance.
01:53So you can speed up the arrival of aliens.
01:56Oh, so the difficulty increases.
02:03The team created a virtual game for persons living with dementia.
02:07Suroy Suroy or Visaya ng Pagagala.
02:11Headed by Dr. Vida Michelle Anlacan.
02:14We have a lot of games.
02:16Headed by Dr. Vida Michelle Anlacan.
02:19We have a lot of medicines for this.
02:21But of course, we want to give them more.
02:25We want to give them other interventions or therapies.
02:29Here, you can walk in various places like Luneta Park.
02:33And you can play various virtual games based on looking back.
02:38Orientation, relaxation, and therapeutic activities.
02:43Aside from stimulation, the goal is to reduce their behavioral problems.
02:49We give them hope that they can do a lot more.
02:53We will collect these items.
02:56Then, we will put it where it should be.
03:00The slot.
03:05The group's plan is to expand the levels of the games and create virtual games
03:09for others who need rehabilitation.
03:12For the next steps for the project,
03:16we are open to have other fun plans.
03:20There you have it, Kapuso.
03:22It's just the beginning because the potential of immersive games is very wide
03:26as a rehabilitation tool.
