00:00Adam Kaplan is our NFL insider.
00:02He's covered the NFL for almost 30 years,
00:06and you can follow him on AXA, KaplanNFL.
00:08And he just said in the break that,
00:10Pharrell, your language is deplorable, end quote.
00:16And I just thought that that was very interesting
00:18that he would add that type of salt to the dinner.
00:21He just said, your language is deplorable.
00:24From Pharrell, Adelphia, here he is,
00:26the great Kaplan, the maestro.
00:28All right, let's talk about your new OC, the Eagles.
00:32It's always about the Eagles because they're the champs.
00:36First of all, Scott, let me explain something
00:39because this has been a hot topic
00:41of both sports stations here and talk radio
00:45in terms of, okay, who's going to replace Kellen Moore?
00:48Kellen Moore, of course, the new Saints head coach
00:49is bringing a couple of Eagles assistants
00:51with him to New Orleans.
00:52But like, this is the story back here in Philly,
00:56as you know, one of the top three media markets
00:57in the country.
00:58And you mentioned the Eagles won the Superbowl,
01:00but Kevin Pattullo, the passing game coordinator
01:03is now going to be the offense coordinator.
01:04He was promoted.
01:06So let me explain to you what the Eagles were thinking here.
01:08So Jalen Hurts, Scott,
01:10this will be his fifth play caller in five seasons.
01:13That's a lot.
01:14That's a lot of change.
01:15In fact, Jalen talked about it last spring
01:19that he had had 10 play callers going back to high school.
01:22This goes back to college, of course,
01:23with Oklahoma and Alabama.
01:25And his dad is his high school coach.
01:26So this is a lot of change.
01:29Now what I'm told is, Scott, here, a couple of things.
01:31They wanted to keep this thing
01:34kind of the same as much as possible.
01:36Their plan is to keep the scheme the same
01:38with the one that Kellen Moore ran last season.
01:40Don't give Jalen another playbook to learn.
01:42This is just not, it's not the way you want to do it.
01:45You don't want to keep changing things,
01:47but they couldn't block Kellen Moore from being a head coach.
01:50So they want to keep the scheme the same.
01:52Pattullo and Hurts have now worked together
01:54for five seasons.
01:55This will be the fifth season together.
01:56I'm told they have a good working relationship.
01:59Pattullo's coached quarterbacks, receivers in his career.
02:02I've talked to people who've worked with him in the past.
02:04He's a pretty sharp guy,
02:06but you can't go with the fact that
02:08it's another guy in his headset.
02:10This is another play caller.
02:12And remember now, Scott, two years ago,
02:15they promoted Brian Johnson, the quarterback's coach,
02:18to offensive coordinator.
02:19Brian Johnson was removed after one season
02:21as the play caller.
02:22Didn't work well.
02:23He's now in Washington, working high up in their offense.
02:27But the bottom line is, this is yet another change.
02:29So as we go forward here, Scott,
02:31this is a story to watch in their off season
02:33to get the training camp in the off season.
02:35It's going to be talked about.
02:36People are going to wonder.
02:38And one more thing, Scott,
02:39Kevin Pattullo has never called plays before.
02:41Play Collins and Art, and you got to be careful.
02:43You just got to let it play out.
02:44I know the Eagles are very optimistic.
02:46He's very close to Nick Sirianni,
02:48but again, he's never called plays before.
02:50You don't usually know until you get there,
02:52until he's put into the fire,
02:53so you got to do it in game.
02:55But I know they're very optimistic.
02:57I'm sure the sports talk there in Philly on whip
03:01and fanatic is, they're traumatized by the change
03:05and that the whole world is ending
03:08and there's going to be an earthquake and a tsunami
03:11and the river's going to overflow in Philly.
03:15But here's the reality of it.
03:17How about looking at it from the other side?
03:20The perspective of Jalen Hurts has been to two Super Bowls
03:24and now he's got a Super Bowl ring.
03:25I don't care who's his offensive coordinator.
03:27He's just a great football player.
03:29He adapts.
03:31He's been doing it since high school,
03:32getting screwed over and having 10 different coaches.
03:35It hasn't affected him.
03:36He keeps getting better and better and better.
03:37He just kicked Mahomes' ass.
03:41I don't care who his coach is.
03:43His coach could be, leave it to Beaver.
03:46Yeah, Jerry Mathers, but also he'll have more input.
03:51Oh, it's a Jerry Mathers.
03:52He knew his name.
03:54I knew it, man.
03:55I was, hey, I was actually big.
03:57I was a big in the Haskell family.
03:59Yeah, but bottom line is with Hurts,
04:01it's another play caller.
04:02We got to be careful, but he's got more input
04:04and he's a veteran quarterback.
04:06But I know, look, Alex Smith went through it.
04:08Remember Jason Campbell, the former Washington quarterback
04:12who went through a number of play callers.
04:14You get concerned about that
04:16because you try to get used to a scheme
04:17when you're a quarterback, then it changes again.
04:19And here's the other thing with Kelly Moore and Hurts.
04:21Boy, they were great late in the season.
04:23They got on the same page and boy, Hurts really took off.
04:27And you mentioned the super capping up
04:28with a great Superbowl, but bottom line is
04:31he's going to have a new play caller.
04:32This is something to watch as we go forward.
04:34You know what?
04:35I got to tell you, I am unmoved.
04:39Your story is huge.
04:40I won't deny it.
04:41And I know it's enormous in Philly,
04:44but I'm telling you if there's any, that guy is cool Ray.
04:49I mean, he is literally so, I mean, his heart
04:52his resting heart rate has to be about 40.
04:54I mean, the guy doesn't even, he doesn't flinch.
04:57He's just like, I'm going to go out and do my thing.
05:00I don't care about stats.
05:01I want to win.
05:02We're going to win.
05:03And he, and he wins and he won a Superbowl.
05:05What more do you want to believe?
05:06It's never enough for these fans there.
05:08They got to complain about something.
05:10They blame their mother for breakfast.
05:13All right, let's talk about Godwin in Tampa.
05:15What is the status
05:16on him getting a deal with the Buccaneers?
05:19Yeah, this is a big story.
05:20So Chris Godwin Scott knew he, he had the dislocation
05:23of his ankle around mid season last season
05:27against Baltimore in a primetime game.
05:29And it was an awful injury.
05:30So I'm getting carted off.
05:32He was headed Scott.
05:33His pace was ridiculous.
05:36People should remember, they moved him back to the slot.
05:38He was there earlier in his career
05:40where Bruce Arians made a decision when he was head coach
05:43to movement side and Godwin took off.
05:45He was headed for a pace of 120 to 130 catches.
05:49We played a full season.
05:50He was on a great game by the way
05:52against the Ravens that night.
05:53But so he didn't play again during that season.
05:56He's got a contract that expires now.
05:59He's got what we call voidables on his contract.
06:02So it was set to void actually already.
06:04It was going to, it was going to void about a week ago.
06:07So now what happened is Godwin and the club got together.
06:10They moved the void back to March 12th
06:12to the start of free agency.
06:14This gives them a chance to kind of
06:16renegotiate this contract.
06:18Look at it again, try to get him back.
06:20They want him back.
06:21He wants to be back.
06:22He's been a great Buccaneers,
06:23a former third round pick out of 2017.
06:26It's a phenomenal football player out of Penn State.
06:29And really when you look at it,
06:30you put Mike Evans there and Chris Godwin
06:34and they've got some young guys who could run
06:35and the tight end group, which is pretty good.
06:39That's a heck of an offense.
06:40But look, once again,
06:42we've got a new play caller in Tampa Bay.
06:44Third straight year, we've got a new play caller.
06:45All right, so I know this isn't part of the script,
06:48but how do you think the quarterback situation
06:51is going to play out in Pittsburgh?
06:54All right, so that one there, look,
06:56I've been on record and we'll see what happens.
06:58I would be very surprised if Russell Wilson comes back.
07:01I know it's not impossible.
07:03I know there's some people,
07:03the Steelers would like to see him back.
07:05I think there's some coaches who were
07:07hoping to bench him last season,
07:09but were overruled as I understand it.
07:10So I think it's a mixed bag.
07:12I'm very intrigued with Justin Fields
07:14who never really got a shot.
07:16Yes, he got hurt.
07:17He had a couple of minor injuries,
07:18but he's clearly healthy late in the season.
07:20When, and you and I talked about this,
07:23I don't know why they didn't bench,
07:25well, I know why,
07:26because they wanted to go with Russell Wilson's experience,
07:29but they should have given Fields a shot.
07:30At that point, what did they have to lose?
07:32In fact, remember you and I talked about that
07:34in that game against the Chiefs.
07:36What do you have to lose?
07:39When it's not going well,
07:40put the young kid in who's got a great arm,
07:41much better athlete,
07:43get a better evaluation on him,
07:44but they decide not to do that.
07:45That was a mistake.
07:47Russell Wilson is a well below average quarterback
07:49at this point.
07:50He's barely hanging on.
07:51It is mid 30s.
07:53They have to do better.
07:54That position is completely holding them back.
07:56I know they're very excited about getting
07:58a couple of guys back in their offensive line.
08:00Offensive line's gonna be good.
08:01You know the defense is gonna be good,
08:03but you can't win in the National Football League
08:05when you don't have an answer quarterback.
08:08And right now, they don't have one.
08:10Is Pete Carroll gonna bring him to Vegas?
08:14You know, Pete was asked that, by the way.
08:16He said they haven't even talked about it.
08:20Pete squashed, let Russ cook in 2020.
08:22In fact, when you and I were working together
08:24in sports grid, I'm going back five years now.
08:26It was the 2020 season.
08:27Right.
08:28Pete put the kibosh on the pass again
08:31with Brian Schottenheimer.
08:33Russ was incredible that season.
08:35He had 28 passing touchdowns in eight games.
08:37I know Pete and Russell had issues there in that season.
08:41So I'd be surprised if Russ went with the Raiders.
08:44And the Raiders, by the way,
08:45we'll talk more about the quarterback situation
08:47around the league,
08:48because we'll take a look at my first edition,
08:49my mock draft.
08:51But man, the Raiders may not get one.
08:52They may have to trade up.
08:54They're another team.
08:55They've got a couple of quality backups,
08:57but they're another team that does not know
08:59who their starting quarterback is gonna be going forward.
09:01Moving on, it's time for Bust a Cap
09:03and go ask his first mock draft.
09:05A 10-pick look at the top 10 in the NFL draft.
09:10And remember, soon enough,
09:12he'll be broadcasting with us
09:13from the Combine in lovely Naptown,
09:15which is Indianapolis, Indiana,
09:18as the Combine is right around the corner doing pushups.
09:21So with the Combine coming up next week,
09:25let's take a look.
09:26We'll start with, why don't we go, can we go backwards?
09:29Let's go number 10, the Chicago Bears.
09:32What are they doing here with their defense?
09:35And so, Scotty, the fans want,
09:37they want them to rebuild the offensive line.
09:39I totally get that.
09:40It's underachieved.
09:41They spent some draft picks over the years,
09:43but it hasn't worked out like they'd hope.
09:44And they need to protect Caleb Williams.
09:47And I don't doubt that they're gonna draft
09:48the offensive line, the drafting for agency,
09:50but we also have zero pass rush.
09:52Arguably, the NFL's worst pass rush.
09:54The Panthers are right up there,
09:55but the Bears, they have to address,
09:57absolutely have to address their edge rush.
09:59And you're gonna start hearing about this guy.
10:02If you don't follow the draft,
10:03maybe you don't know who Mike Green is from Marshall.
10:05He was at the Senior Bowl,
10:06but you're gonna learn about him very, very quickly.
10:08We're gonna talk about him right now.
10:09High end edge rusher, real underrated.
10:12He's starting to get a little bit of pub.
10:14He's certainly gonna go in the upper half
10:15of the first round.
10:17We're gonna give him to the Bears here at number 10.
10:19Mike Green, an edge rusher from Marshall,
10:20and that is a major need pick.
10:22Their pass rush was anemic last season.
10:24At number nine, the New Orleans Saints.
10:28They need a quarterback, a corner, an edge,
10:31a wide receiver, a tackle, a tight end, a team.
10:34They actually need a team in New Orleans.
10:37And Kellen Moore is, I mean, he's in with the raw oysters.
10:41I gotta tell you, he's deep in the Mississippi
10:43in the muddy waters.
10:45Yeah, and here's the thing, man.
10:47They don't have an answer at quarterback pass this season.
10:49They still haven't even made a decision on Derek Carr,
10:51although I'm a little bit of guaranteed money.
10:53But remember the draft, Scott,
10:55is about the future with an eye on the current year.
10:58So what they need for the current season
11:01and for the future is edge rushers.
11:03Cam Jordan is a great player, probably Hall of Famer,
11:06but he's in his mid 30s.
11:08We're gonna go with Jalen Walker,
11:09who's one of two edge rushers at Georgia
11:10who are gonna go in the first round,
11:12probably in the upper half.
11:13We'll go with Jalen Walker for the Saints
11:15who need help on defense.
11:16And yes, Kellen Moore needs receivers,
11:19but he'll get them later.
11:20All right, we go to Carolina at number eight.
11:23They need an edge.
11:24So why don't they go get one?
11:26And they're gonna get one.
11:27Mikel Williams, another Georgia edge rusher.
11:31The worst, by far the worst pass rush last season.
11:34Bears were right with them.
11:35They were awful defensively.
11:37They need help, and they've gotta help
11:39their defensive staff in Carolina.
11:41And they'll get Williams,
11:42and he'll be a starter from day one.
11:44At seven, it's the gangrene, the Jets.
11:47They need a little bit of everything,
11:49but I love your pick here
11:51because this dude is an absolute monster.
11:56So people made fun of the Raiders
11:58when they took Brock Bowers.
11:59He was phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal.
12:01We know that they also had a second round tight end
12:03from a couple of years ago from Notre Dame, Michael Mayer.
12:06But Bowers was terrific.
12:08The Jets are really bad at tight end.
12:10Conklin's a free agent.
12:11Warren is not only the best tight end,
12:13he's one of the top 10 players in this draft.
12:16Yes, they need a quarterback.
12:17They're not getting one at seven unless they trade up.
12:20They need other positions, but tight end is a big one.
12:22He's phenomenal.
12:23Tyler Warren from Penn State
12:24is the pick at number seven for the Jets.
12:26I mean, you talk about a bull.
12:28This guy, he never drops the ball and he runs over people.
12:32He can do everything.
12:33He can run the ball, catch the ball, run over people.
12:36He's powerful.
12:37He blocks.
12:38He is a phenomenal football player.
12:40I noticed that guy all year playing for the Nittany Lions.
12:44At number six, the Raiders,
12:46I mean, they need everything as well.
12:48What are they gonna do here?
12:50The popular scheme here is for them to trade up,
12:52and I don't disagree for Shador Sanders
12:54or get a quarterback, but they're only two
12:57and they're both gonna be gone.
12:58And for the sake of this mock draft,
13:00there is a receiver out of University of Arizona,
13:03McMillan, who's phenomenal.
13:05Six, we'll see what he measures
13:07when I'm at the combine next week,
13:08but the unofficial measurement is around six,
13:11four and a half, six, five.
13:12Long can run.
13:13He's the best receiver for this draft.
13:14We'll go with McMillan,
13:16a receiver from University of Arizona,
13:18to the Raiders who are in dire need of help at wide receiver.
13:20They need a lot of help everywhere.
13:22They need a quarterback corner, running back wide receiver.
13:24He's another edge rusher, another defensive tackle,
13:26but we'll go with McMillan, the receiver from U of A.
13:28And what about the Jags at number five?
13:31Yeah, I went back and forth.
13:34They could use a corner.
13:34I don't see the value at corner here.
13:36If they traded down, maybe.
13:38We're gonna go with Mason Graham,
13:39the terrific defensive tackle from Michigan.
13:42They need a defensive tackle.
13:43He fits in right here for those Jaguars at number five.
13:47At number four, the Patriots,
13:48they have more cap money to spend than anyone in the NFL.
13:52What are they gonna do in the draft?
13:53I love this pick at number four,
13:55because let me tell you something.
13:57If Travis Hunter makes it to four,
13:58this is, by the way,
13:59this is the lowest they'll go at number four.
14:01If he's there, I know they need tackles, okay?
14:03I'm well aware of it.
14:05But Travis Hunter is a generational player.
14:09He could play a little receiver if you want him to.
14:11He's gonna be a corner.
14:12Paramount with Christian Gonzalez,
14:13they're locked up at corner for eight to 10 years.
14:15Absolutely, it's gotta be Travis Hunter.
14:17You're right.
14:18I think you're dead right.
14:19And his teammate will go three
14:21to the G-Men, G-Men, Big Blue?
14:25Yeah, I cannot wait to get the combine next week,
14:27because I know that Hunter,
14:28I know that Shadur Sanders
14:29is going to the upper half of the first round.
14:31I'm trying to figure out what the value is here.
14:33We know the Giants have to get a quarterback, okay?
14:35They need receiver help.
14:37They need the right tackle, guard, corner, and safety.
14:38But quarterback, they can't function without a quarterback.
14:41Shadur Sanders is gonna be the quarterback here.
14:43He's gonna be the pick back-to-back here for Colorado.
14:46Really good football player, good processor.
14:48Doesn't have the upside of Cam Ward.
14:50He's gonna go to the Giants here at number three.
14:52And two, it's the Browns.
14:55Oh yeah, now listen, folks.
14:57Yes, they need a quarterback.
14:58We get that.
14:59But there's not gonna be a quarterback to take here.
15:03Abdul Carter is one of the top three players for this draft,
15:05the edge rusher from Penn State.
15:07They need edge rushers more for the future.
15:10And of course, what happens with Miles Garrett?
15:12We'll go with Abdul Carter to number two for the Browns.
15:16Let's see what would happen
15:17if Miles Garrett's still on the team,
15:18who's, by the way, a phenomenal football player.
15:21Well, I think that Carter will replace him,
15:23and that'll be that.
15:25And at number one, the Tennessee Titans.
15:27What a disaster.
15:30Here's the thing.
15:31If you're the Titans,
15:32you never wanna be picking number one again.
15:33They don't have a quarterback for the future.
15:35When you don't have one, you're looking for one.
15:37It's Cam Ward, the multi-talented quarterback
15:40from University of Miami,
15:42who's got a rocket arm, moves well enough.
15:45He is a stud.
15:46He's extremely talented.
15:47They gotta solve this quarterback issue.
15:50They haven't been able to do it since Tannehill,
15:51and they're gonna do it here with Cam Ward.
15:53I'm hearing at corporate meetings for the Eagles,
15:56they are still looking toward giving Adam a Super Bowl ring
16:00because of his work with the Eagles
16:02on the pregame and postgame shows.
16:04Great job, Adam.
