00:00Yeah, we played against each other.
00:02Live from Radio Row, right here, Super Bowl 59 taking place on Sunday.
00:05The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, come on now, we got tight end central
00:08right now.
00:09Dennis Pitt, Todd Heap, how we doing, gentlemen?
00:11We're doing great.
00:12It's great to be here.
00:13I love it.
00:14I'm excited because why?
00:15We always stick together as Ravens, is that what we do?
00:18Tight end?
00:19You're a Raven guy?
00:20Look, I am now.
00:21Let's go.
00:22I feel like I'm right with you guys right now.
00:23Ravens, tight ends, yeah, we stick together.
00:25You were a tight end, right?
00:26That's kind of your background?
00:27I mean, you know, 5'10 and a half, you know, maybe a buck seventy-five.
00:29Kind of the party typical size.
00:31Yeah, you met up with me, you know, the blocking dummy you can use me as, something like that.
00:35But let's have some fun with this, too, because both of you guys had a lot of success in the
00:38NFL.
00:39Same organization, but was it two different coaches?
00:42Did you guys overlap at all?
00:43We overlapped one year.
00:45Did you?
00:46So, my tenth year was Dennis' rookie season, so I basically taught him everything he knows.
00:52Any success that he ever had, the Super Bowl he scored a touchdown, thanks to me.
00:57You know, 12 years ago today, played in the Super Bowl.
01:01I think I taught him how to run that route.
01:04What route was that, Todd?
01:05Yeah, there you go.
01:06Go ahead.
01:07I don't know, but it was whatever.
01:08Yeah, exactly.
01:09You don't even know.
01:10You're taking credit for things you don't even know.
01:11Listen, it's great to be back here in New Orleans because when we played in the Super
01:14Bowl, this was the last time I was in New Orleans, was Super Bowl XLVII, 12 years ago
01:18now.
01:19Obviously, what was once the Mercedes Superdome, I think it's a different name now, right?
01:24Now we got dice in there.
01:25We got tables.
01:26Yeah.
01:27But anyways, so many good memories from that time.
01:30Obviously, it was a whirlwind of a week with all the media obligations you have, trying
01:35to balance practice and every other distraction that goes on that week of the Super Bowl.
01:39But man, it ended great, and we were fortunate to come away with a win.
01:44Now you were in one of the more iconic Super Bowls.
01:46Obviously, you won it.
01:47That's the main thing that you love.
01:48Yeah.
01:49But the power going out, and I think everybody probably asked you the same question.
01:52What did you guys do when the power went out?
01:53Were you hanging out, stretching?
01:55I mean, if you actually watch the video, we were kind of all sitting around on the
01:59field trying to stretch out a little bit, talking, trying to figure out really what
02:04was going on because there was so much chaos and kind of confusion when the lights initially
02:09went out because a lot of people might think like all the lights went out, but it was really
02:13only half the stadium.
02:14So on our half of the field, the lights were still on, but really on kind of the other
02:18end of the field, half those halogen lights had gone off.
02:22We didn't know when they were going to come back on.
02:24We didn't know how long we were going to be sitting there.
02:26And so it was really a weird time, and in particular, to be on the biggest stage in
02:31all of sports, in the biggest game of any of our lives.
02:35And we're sitting here confused for what ended up being 45 minutes on the field with the
02:40lights out.
02:41And so it was a really weird time.
02:43You don't anticipate something like that happening in the Super Bowl, much less in any other
02:48level of football that we've played in previously.
02:50But what a crazy experience.
02:53Unfortunately, we were able to come away with a win.
02:56Now, we had all the momentum in the first half.
02:57Yes, you did.
02:58We returned the opening kick in the second half.
03:00Then the lights go out, which there's all kinds of theories that circulate for the reasoning
03:06why those lights went out.
03:07Most people are going to blame Beyonce and her halftime show, which I'm sure was tremendous.
03:12But it was unusual timing for sure.
03:16And with a 28 to 6 lead when the lights went out, we lost all that momentum.
03:22And the 49ers, to their credit, came storming back in that game.
03:25But we were able to hold on.
03:26Crazy stuff.
03:27And also, Todd, when you were in Baltimore, sort of that World Championship years go by,
03:31another World Championship, he picks up.
03:33But you were first-round draft pick.
03:34One of the best tight ends in football.
03:36What was your career high?
03:3773 catches one season?
03:38What was your high number?
03:39I don't remember.
03:40You were in the mid-70s at least one year.
03:41I couldn't tell you.
03:42I think I was mid-high 70s.
03:45I don't remember.
03:46I didn't really pay attention to stats like Dennis did.
03:50But yeah, no, I had a great career.
03:53Ten years in Baltimore.
03:55I was smack dab right in between two Super Bowls.
03:57But you know what?
03:58I wouldn't trade it for anything.
04:00The ten years and the guys I got to play with and the experiences that I had, it was phenomenal.
04:05Baltimore Ravens organization is next to none.
04:09So all the people that I met, ownership from Art Modell to Steve Bichotti, they were fantastic.
04:16We had great leadership at every level.
04:20And that's what the Ravens organization is known for.
04:23And they keep those guys around for a long time.
04:25So it was impressive to see an organization run in that manner, first-class manner for
04:31ten years.
04:32And the legacy that lives on.
04:33Mark Andrews now.
04:34Another great tight end.
04:35Eating it up.
04:36Now by the way, Baltimore Ravens.
04:37Obviously you guys played there.
04:38Big fans of the team now?
04:39Close to the team?
04:40How do we feel about the team?
04:41For sure.
04:42We're both still live and breathe Baltimore Ravens.
04:46We're such big fans.
04:47We love Lamar Jackson.
04:50Love Mark Andrews.
04:51Love the addition of Derrick Henry this year.
04:55We've got so many guys that are just unbelievable stars.
04:58Kyle Hamilton's up and coming.
04:59That's just a stud.
05:02Stars all the way across the board.
05:03Guys that are the top in the game.
05:06And there's a reason why.
05:07It's because Eric DaCosta, obviously learned from Ozzie Newsome, but Eric DaCosta and Ozzie
05:12Newsome have done a fantastic job of bringing in great guys.
05:16Whether through the draft or free agency, they're phenomenal at what they do.
05:19One of the class organizations.
05:21And you can look at all of their draft picks since the inception of the Ravens.
05:25You start from Jonathan Ogden, your very first pick, and Ray Lewis, your very second pick.
05:30And then you can just keep going all the way down the list from year to year and it's impressive
05:34to see what they put together.
05:35I really thought over the past two years they'd have at least one more Super Bowl, but Lamar
05:38still in his prime.
05:39The team still in his prime.
05:40Good things ahead here.
05:42We're going to talk some big things too.
05:43Check this out.
05:44Some cleats here.
05:45Who's ready to explain them?
05:46I need to know about them.
05:47I got it.
05:48I'll jump into this one.
05:49But this is a company called Cadix Cleats.
05:52And it's something that Todd and I got involved with about eight months ago or so.
05:56Todd originally saw it on social media.
05:58He was browsing Instagram like he always does, right?
06:02Spending way too much time.
06:03It's the algorithm.
06:04The feed.
06:05That's right.
06:06You know, these cleats came up in my feed.
06:08You know.
06:09And yeah, he was kind of exploring cleats for his son.
06:12And this came across his feed.
06:14And when you look at it from the outside, you think, man, that's interesting, especially
06:18as former players who have worn cleats our whole life.
06:21And my whole career, and certainly Todd's whole career, cleats haven't changed.
06:25You know, and the molds on cleats have kind of been different designs and all that kind
06:28of stuff.
06:29But the function, the innovation in cleats hasn't changed.
06:32And there's been so much talk in the NFL in particular about player safety.
06:36And it's really started with helmets and head safety and all that kind of stuff.
06:39It's gone to shoulder pads.
06:41It's gone to all the other different areas of the body.
06:42It hasn't been addressed at the cleat level yet.
06:45Yes.
06:46And at the ground level.
06:47And there's been a lot of talk about field conditions and turf versus grass, all that
06:49kind of stuff.
06:50But what this company is doing is groundbreaking because they have a cleat that has studs that
06:58can move in every direction.
06:59It can spin 360 degrees.
07:01And what that does is it reduces rotational forces on your lower extremities, on your
07:06knees, on your ankles, so your cleat won't get stuck in the ground when your body's trying
07:10to go a different direction and cause a non-contact injury, which are the most frustrating of
07:14all of them.
07:15Right?
07:16Because we've all been injured in football.
07:17Yep.
07:18Most of which are contact-type injuries.
07:19But you see the Odell Beckhams in the Super Bowl and those kind of injuries where they're
07:23just planning changing direction, that cleat sticks a little bit too much, doesn't release
07:27from the turf, and all of a sudden you end up with an ACL injury.
07:29And so this is an innovative, really cool product that is addressing that from the ground
07:34up and trying to make the game a little bit safer in a space that hasn't really been innovated
07:39ever.
07:40And so we got involved.
07:41It's been awesome.
07:42We have about 20 athletes right now in the NFL that wore them this past season.
07:47Started with Joe Flacco, who's a friend of ours.
07:49He loved them.
07:50He wore them through preseason, training camp, all that kind of stuff, all throughout the
07:53season.
07:54He's now an investor with us.
07:56Yeah.
07:57And he believes in the product so much.
07:58And other guys like Matthew Judon, Juan Thornhill, guys across the league who have loved these
08:03cleats and won't take them off.
08:04Can we find these in big box stores?
08:06We find them online?
08:07Like, how can we get them?
08:08Right now, we're direct-to-consumer online at cadx.com.
08:11And this cleat is not just limited to American football.
08:15Obviously, there's a huge need in women's sports in particular, because when you look
08:19at women and their physiology, they are far more predisposed to ACL and knee injuries
08:25than males are, for whatever reason.
08:27And I don't think we totally understand the science behind it yet.
08:30But this product is huge for women's soccer, women's lacrosse.
08:32And so we have some of the top women's lacrosse players.
08:36One of the individuals on our board, Kayla Sharples, plays for the KC Current in their
08:41professional league.
08:42And so there's a huge need for a product like this, not only in American football, but certainly
08:48in women's sports, and something that we're addressing.
08:50It's great.
08:51By the way, Todd, a couple more years in the NFL if you had somebody's cleats.
08:53Come on now.
08:54You left wearing pairs?
08:55You know, the question always is, what if?
08:56You look at it, and you're like, man, I think back to my first injury, and what if?
09:01And so that's what this is addressing, the SmartStrike technology.
09:05It's patented technology, and it's really been impressive.
09:09The feedback, you know, the response we've received from everybody has been fantastic.
09:14Fantastic.
09:15By the way, Super Bowl is Sunday, so I've got to ask you guys a question, who's winning
09:18this bad boy?
09:19Who is it?
09:20Eagles, Chiefs?
09:21I'm going with the Chiefs, only because I love Andy Reid.
09:26At some point, for guys that played, and we've done all this, unless it's the Ravens, it's
09:31hard for me to root for anybody.
09:33And so I root for more individuals than anything, and Andy Reid is a guy that I've loved from
09:39even before I was playing, when he was with the Eagles.
09:43And so, you know, he's been a great influence on me, and a great friend to me over the years.
09:48So I'm rooting for him to win.
09:50There you go.
09:51How about you, Dennis?
09:52Who do we got?
09:53And when you're old enough like Todd and I, and Todd's a lot older than I am, obviously,
09:56most of your friends now in these games are coaches.
09:59There you go.
10:00Unfortunately, Todd mentions Andy Reid.
10:01On the other side of the ball, offensive coordinator for the Eagles, Kellen Moore, is a good friend
10:05of mine.
10:06And so I'm going to lean the Eagles in this one because of my relationship with Kellen,
10:09and I'm going to be rooting for him hard come Sunday.
10:12But Andy Reid's awesome, a BYU guy, which is where I got my start, and so I always root
10:18for him.
10:19But I think it'll be a great game.
10:21I think so much is made about these two offenses, Saquon Barkley, Patrick Mahomes, all the high-flying
10:27points that everybody expects to happen on Sunday.
10:29But it's these defenses that, in my mind, I think are going to be the difference in
10:34this game.
10:35So I think it's going to be a little bit more low scoring than people think.
10:37I'm going to hammer the under on this one.
10:39He's a big bettor.
10:40I love it.
10:41He's a big bettor.
10:42I won't be betting.
10:43I'm not a bettor.
10:44Come on.
10:45But if I were, I'd be hitting the under.
10:46But he knows how to hammer the under.
10:47But I'm going to take the Eagles, to answer your question.
10:48I'm going to take the Eagles on this one.
10:49There you go.
10:50So we got one Chiefs, one Eagles here, but the one thing we do know, two great football
10:54players for the Baltimore Ravens, and putting out a great product with these cleats here.
10:57So make sure you guys check it out online.
10:59Get them where they are available.
11:00Super Bowl 59, Radio Row, gentlemen, thank you so much for joining me today.
11:04Thank you for having us.
11:05We appreciate it.
11:06Great.
