00:00Yo, let's do this thing inside the big game.
00:24I am Gabriel Moretti, countdown to kickoff continues, we're throwing it down to the sports
00:28grid, radio and television networks, Sirius XM, channel 159.
00:33We're sitting next to a five-year NFL vet, a national champion, but I think more importantly
00:39actually that we're here in New Orleans, a local freaking legend, man, Archbishop Romo
00:45High is a legendary high school, and Jamar Chase was only one of his teammates, and all
00:51this man has done is win in his life.
00:54Christian Fulton in the house, in your own backyard, bro.
00:57Thanks for joining us, man.
00:58Yes, sir.
00:59Thank you for having me.
01:00It's a pleasure.
01:01How are you doing?
01:02I'm doing great, man.
01:03I'm excited to be back home, you know, and experience this.
01:04You know, the last time I was back here in New Orleans, I wasn't able, you know, to
01:08experience it.
01:09Yeah, so yeah, what's it like, someone who grew up here right outside of New Orleans
01:14and Metairie, coming back, sort of, and seeing it from an outside perspective, and the NFL
01:19world is here right now.
01:20What's it like seeing your hometown on display?
01:22It's exciting, you know, like I said, you know, I've experienced it in other cities,
01:27you know, and it was cool, but like, you know, just to see, you know, my hometown, you know,
01:30get this love, you know, and see all these big names out here, you know, just to, you
01:34know, celebrate it and, you know, embrace the culture, you know, of New Orleans, it's
01:38fun to see and a fun experience.
01:40Now there's so many, so many great football players that have come from this state.
01:43Let me ask you, do you think, is this the best state for football?
01:46Like, if you took all the players, forget Florida, forget Texas and Cali, is this where
01:51it's at?
01:52I'm taking us over everybody.
01:53This is where it's at.
01:54I'm telling you.
01:55I mean, you guys are all over.
01:56LSU Tigers, man, all over the National Football League.
02:01Are you going to get to hook up with any of your guys?
02:02Because I know when you guys are playing during the season, you don't really talk.
02:06It's all business, right?
02:07So in the offseason, you can say, hey, what's up, Jamar, man?
02:09All right, now we can sort of, you don't get a chance to hang out with these guys.
02:13So are you going to hook up with any of your old boys this week?
02:15Oh, yeah, 100%.
02:16You know, we've already talked, you know, I've talked to, you know, like you said, Jamar,
02:20you know, Grant Delpit, you know, a lot of guys, you know, Adon back home, you know,
02:25just like I said, you know, just to, you know, link up, you know, and experience this
02:28together.
02:29You know, a lot of guys, like you said, we don't really get to chop it up, you know,
02:32during the season unless we play each other, you know, we talk after the game, but, you
02:35know, this is the time, you know, where we like, you know, spend, you know, try to figure
02:38out, you know, offseason plans, you know, get up and get up together.
02:40What was it like playing at Rummel High?
02:42It's a legendary school and so many, so many great players have come from there.
02:48Is that amongst the fun, like, you know, as your career goes on, Bo Schembacher, the great
02:52Michigan coach, may he rest in peace, had the famous speech, the team, the team, the
02:55team.
02:56Yeah.
02:57And he told the guys in the room, this is the last time you'll play for a team.
02:59You'll play for a contract, you'll play for this, you'll play for that.
03:01Yeah.
03:02It's the last time you'll play for a team.
03:03What kind of memories do you have of your high school days, knowing that you made it
03:07now to looking back and knowing, man, you know, the blood, sweat, and tears started
03:11there.
03:12Right, right, right.
03:13Man, I have so many memories, you know, going, dating back, you know, to high school, you
03:18know, a legendary coach, you know, he's instilled so many, you know, core values that I have,
03:24you know, when it comes to football, when it comes to, you know, being on a team, you
03:28know, you know, setting a standard, you know, for winning, you know, you know, making it
03:32to the next level or, you know, just the next round, you know, just referring to like playoffs
03:35or, you know, stuff like that.
03:36I mean, like you said, I played with a lot of great players.
03:39So, you know, I know how, you know, it's taught me, you know, my experiences at Archbishop
03:43has taught me, you know, to, you know, do my part, you know, kind of, you know, set
03:46the tone, you know, as a defensive back, you know, that's kind of, you know, something
03:50that I live by.
03:51And I know you've talked about in the past how much being a teammate of Joe Burrow and
03:55Jamar Chase has helped you.
03:57Practicing against the best makes you, like iron makes iron, steel makes steel, right?
04:01And all that stuff.
04:02Yeah.
04:03Talk to me about that and just, you know, you've played on, you know, you've played
04:08on so many good teams and so many great athletes, even the Chargers, so much great talent lining
04:13up against Herbert in practice, right?
04:14What's that like?
04:15Man, it's so much fun, you know, like I said, because like you say, iron sharpens iron,
04:20you know, and we practice at this level, you know, at this game, we practice more than
04:23we play.
04:24So, you know, that's where you get the real work at.
04:26And like you said, like, it just made me better, you know, over my career.
04:29It's the reason why I'm still going today.
04:31And that's the thing you want.
04:32You want to play against great players, you know, not just in a game, but like I said,
04:36in practice, you know, because it helps you.
04:37So you just spent the last year in Los Angeles with the Chargers.
04:41What was it like in L.A. for a dude from the South, man?
04:45I know you like Florida.
04:46What did you think of Cali?
04:47Because I love Cali.
04:48I love L.A.
04:49I mean, hey, it might be a new home, you know.
04:53I love it.
04:54Did you like playing for the Chargers?
04:55Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:56What was it like playing for Coach Harbaugh, man?
04:59It was a great experience, you know, playing with Coach Harbaugh.
05:01You know, he's a one-of-a-kind coach.
05:04You won't find a coach like him.
05:05You know, a guy who's all for his team, all for winning.
05:09He's a guy, you know, that wants everybody to contribute.
05:11You know, he's not going to leave one man behind.
05:14And you know, he's a guy, you know, who's going to keep you engaged.
05:16You know, he's a guy that has so many stories, you know, about growing up, and he has so
05:20much experience to where he's like, he finds a way to correlate it to football.
05:24And look, everybody's going to be better.
05:26Does it help that you guys know, do players know, you know, this guy was a quarterback
05:30in the NFL.
05:31This guy coached.
05:32Yeah, yeah.
05:33He just loves football.
05:34Right.
05:35How much does that resonate?
05:37You know, Cesar Ruiz was telling me the other day, he played for Harbaugh at Michigan, plays
05:41with the Saints now.
05:42And he said, players can tell phony coaches, man, when they're trying to sell you something.
05:46Harbaugh is like real, isn't he?
05:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:49A hundred percent real, man.
05:50Like I said, he's all about winning, and like I said, playing for these coaches that I played
05:55for, you know, you can't cut no corners with it.
05:57So, you know, he keeps it real with his guys, with his team, and you know, like I said,
06:01he's a player's coach, you know, and like you said, like, you know, we can tell, you
06:06know, phony coaches, you know, coaches that, you know, trying to put on a facade for the
06:09team, you know, but I've just been fortunate enough to, you know, play for some real coaches,
06:13you know, that know how to win and know how to coach.
06:15So you can enjoy yourself this weekend.
06:17What does the free agency process really kick in?
06:20Because I imagine you want to get this done, right?
06:21Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:22You want to know, you know, where you're living.
06:23Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:24I mean, it pretty much, you know, starts up, you know, pretty real soon, you know, like
06:29with the Super Bowl ending, you know, then, you know, you'll be able to talk to, you know,
06:32other teams, you know, the CEO, what other teams.
06:34I don't want to, I don't want any tampering issues or nothing like that.
06:37I would just say we are in New Orleans right now, right?
06:41We are.
06:42We are in New Orleans.
06:43So listen, you played against everybody, but you played against the Chiefs twice this year
06:47and it seems like that they did to you what they do to everyone.
06:51Shoulda coulda woulda, like, man, we could have won the game.
06:53We were right there.
06:54Yeah.
06:55And they just always seem to find a way.
06:58What would you tell, what would you tell the defenders on the Philadelphia Eagles?
07:02What would you say?
07:03You gotta watch out for this.
07:05This is how they got us.
07:07What is it about them that they're able to pull the rabbit out of the hat all the time?
07:11I mean, I really just say, you know, they gotta take, you know, just take advantage
07:14of the opportunities that they're given.
07:16You know, I mean, obviously, you know, KC's been playing better recently, but when we
07:22were playing them, you know, it was some ops, you know, that we didn't necessarily take
07:25advantage of, speaking like as a defense, you know.
07:28So I say, you know, when you get the ops, you gotta take it and run with it and, you
07:31know, not keep it, you know, necessarily a close game.
07:33I would say that.
07:34How do you stop Saquon Barkley?
07:37I don't know.
07:38I haven't dealt with him.
07:39That's one guy I haven't played with yet.
07:40Are you happy you haven't?
07:41Oh, shit.
07:42How hard would it be?
07:43He's almost like, you know, like how Derrick Henry's known for the stiff arm?
07:46Yeah.
07:47Saquon's known for like, almost like basketball, right?
07:49He breaks your ankles so he jumps over you, right?
07:51I'm gonna say, I'm glad I'm not the guy he's, that guy jumps over.
07:54And you're, for the record, Christian Snow is one of the better, best tackling, you know
07:59what I mean?
08:00He's a great run stopper.
08:01Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:02You don't want a part of this.
08:03Nah, yeah.
08:04He, he a different type of guy, which is why he's up for the MVP right now, you know?
08:07So how to stop him, I have no answer for.
08:11I'm gonna say that.
08:12All right.
08:13Listen, man.
08:14We got less than a minute.
08:15It's been really, really cool talking football with you, man.
08:16Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:17Appreciate you.
08:18Who do you, who do you think's gonna win on Sunday, my man?
08:20I gotta go Philly.
08:21Philly, huh?
08:22I gotta go Philly.
08:23I mean, obviously.
08:24Saquon, Jalen, so you think they're just the difference?
08:27Yeah, I think so.
08:28You know, and you know, they have a solid defense, you know, I think their defense is
08:32good enough, you know, to, you know, get it done.
08:33They're like Team Georgia, eh, these guys?
08:34Nah, yeah, yeah.
08:35I mean, you're LSU, but the Eagles, I mean, they're like an SEC team, though.
08:36I'm gonna say SEC.
08:37Yeah, you got AJ Brown, too.
08:38I mean, even there's Slays, Mississippi State.
08:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:40Nah, they got guys all over.
08:41Alabama.
08:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
08:43Yeah, yeah.
08:44And you, they play like an SEC team, don't they?
08:45Nah, yeah, yeah.
08:46The way they punish, man.
08:47Flying around, punish, punish.
08:48Nah, nah, 100%.
08:49Hey, like I said, it was an honor meeting you, Christian.
08:54Great stuff.
08:55Big, big fan of yours.
08:56Appreciate it.
