00:00When I was the city's MP for four and a half years, I would often ask local residents and local businesses what they wanted and free parking was at the very top of that hit list.
00:10Areas like our city centre have to compete with Serpentine Green, with Brotherhood and it's not a level playing field because those businesses there are able to benefit from free parking and it puts off people coming into our city centre.
00:23I want to get more footfall into our city centre, reinvigorate our city centre and get people once again wanting to shop, do business and drink and eat in our city centre and I think free parking is a big part of it.
00:35Do you think the, obviously the council in a tough situation financially, do you think the numbers add up for the council to be able to do this?
00:40Well I've got the latest numbers, it costs about £1.5m I think or just less than £1.5m, £1.2m I think, the council getting revenue for parking.
00:49Look that's important, I understand finances are not good but I want the combined authority to be more than just a vehicle which passports money with no conditions to our local councils.
01:01If I want economic regeneration money coming into places like Peterborough, I think one thing I can do is put conditions that that comes with free parking.
01:09So I want to meet with the city council and come up with some sort of scheme that enables free parking in our city centre.
