00:00President Biden's decision to pardon his son Hunter Biden over serious charges that he

00:08had just been convicted for and was about to be sentenced for have drawn a huge question

00:13mark on Mr Biden's move, his legacy and the appropriateness of what he's done. Ironically,

00:19Joe Biden while justifying this pardon has actually said that he felt the charges against

00:24his son were politically motivated and that's why he felt the need to go ahead and pardon

00:29him. But that is exactly the argument that Donald Trump has invoked when it comes to

00:34the series of criminal charges that he is facing. So actually Joe Biden has borrowed

00:39straight from the Trump playbook and it seriously undermines the argument that he has made for

00:44upholding American democracy, the rule of law. The fact is that Hunter Biden was convicted

00:51in the US judicial system and was about to face sentencing. As far as the Bidens are

00:57concerned, their logic for this is that this system under Trump is going to be retributive,

01:03that Donald Trump would probably have gone after his son very viciously. And Trump has

01:08made no secret of the fact that retribution is going to be a key part of his second term

01:12in the Oval Office. But having said that, for Mr Biden to do this now at the fag end

01:17of his presidency, a presidency that has already been tarnished by so much, including his decision

01:23to contest a second term, the fact that he refused to step aside early enough so that

01:28Kamala Harris could step in and so many other things. This has really, in a sense, put a

01:33seal on that. And unfortunately, ultimately, his presidency will be remembered for this

01:40last year, which has been not so glorious for him.
