00:00The victory of the Labour Party in the UK and the left coalition in France may have
00:08made liberals around the world happy. But a closer look at the data from both these
00:13countries and from the European Union as a whole shows that the far right is now a far
00:18more significant grouping and one that can't be ignored. Now, if you look at the UK elections,
00:23the story isn't so much that Keir Starmer's Labour Party won a landslide majority. It's
00:29actually that this was an anti-Tory vote. And the rise of the UK Reform Party of Nigel
00:35Farage, which is far right, has been another big takeaway. The party has won five seats,
00:40including one for Nigel Farage himself for the very first time. He had seven failed attempts
00:46to enter parliament before this. And they came second in several other seats, essentially
00:51chipping away at the Tory party's vote base. Now, the UK Reform Party is only expected
00:57to grow from here. If you look at France, the left coalition did very well in the second
01:02round of the parliamentary elections, but nobody came up with a clear majority. And
01:07France is frankly in a political gridlock at the moment. The far right has made gains
01:12and Marine Le Pen's party is the party to watch out for as France heads into presidential
01:18elections in 2027. It's the same story in other parts of the EU as well, where you see
01:23far right parties making significant gains, even though the centrist left coalition has
01:29held its ground. And now you have the very real possibility of Donald Trump coming back
01:34to the White House. So what is it that centrist parties need to learn from this? Well, data
01:40shows that young people in particular, younger voters are veering more towards the right.
01:46Unhappiness with inequality, lack of jobs, immigration, these are some of the key issues
01:51that are affecting them. So until the more so-called mainstream centrist parties begin
01:56to address these issues more effectively, we will see the world turning more and more
02:02towards the right.
