00:00This week, I wanted to write about something completely different.
00:07So I decided to write about one of my favorite actors, Matthew Perry.
00:11When the Friend star died last year, I think for a lot of us, it felt like we'd actually
00:15lost a friend.
00:16For years, he had entertained us as Chandler Bing on the hit show.
00:21And you know, it just felt like he was right there, right next door, one of us.
00:26And when he died, I watched a rerun of the entire 10 seasons of Friends just to revisit
00:31those episodes that I had loved so much.
00:34Now the news that there were doctors and his own personal assistant who actually exploited
00:40him and facilitated his death has come as another big shocker.
00:44Here was a man who was very open about his struggles with addiction, with drugs and alcohol.
00:49And Matthew Perry was very brave to document this in his book and in interviews over the
00:53years.
00:54He hoped that his struggles would help others who were dealing with the same problems.
00:58But the fact is, it was a struggle that was difficult for him to overcome.
01:02And instead of helping him, those who he trusted, those who were closest to him, ended up exploiting
01:07him.
01:08Most shockingly, doctors who should have known better.
01:12One hopes that with Perry's death, more people are actually helped by this experience and
01:17will learn from it because that's all that Perry wanted at the end of the day.
