At the outbreak of The First World War in 1914, native Americans in the United States were not citizens in their own country. Even so, they enlisted in a higher percentage than any other ethnic group in the US acording to George Patterson Donehoo, and fought in an alien war, in distant lands, for a country that didn't even recognize their existence.
