00:00Yeah, well, I mean, not 40 million, though.
00:02Like, that was the first thing that jumped out at me when that contract got announced
00:06last night.
00:07Like, holy crap.
00:0849.
00:09I know it's three years.
00:10It's not eight years or anything like that.
00:12But 40 million a year, like, the Astros, rather, were never going there.
00:17And the Astros made a decent, what turned out to be, obviously, a competitive offer
00:22the way his market shaped up.
00:23They offered him six years and nearly $160 million.
00:26He, in the end, from what I've heard, did not want to take what, as far as average annual
00:33value goes, would be a pay cut.
00:35He made, like, $28 million last year.
00:37So what the Astros were offering was about $26 million and something.
00:41He wanted $30 million a year, from what I've heard talking to people.
00:44And that was a big sticking point with him, is that $30 million a year.
00:47Now, obviously, the Red Sox went above and beyond, and he got the opt-outs in there,
00:51as well.
00:52By the way, I think there's zero chance he's opting out of that deal.
00:54I don't think he's getting $40 million from anybody, anywhere.
00:57I think that'll be a three-year, $120 million deal, and then he'll be back on the market
01:01in three years.
01:02So the opt-outs, to me, are just window dressing.
01:04But I think it came down to money, like, at the end of the day.
01:07And I think the Astros had a number, and they weren't moving off that number.
01:11And they left the deal out there for a long, long time for him to take if his market didn't
01:15coalesce the way it did.
01:16But it came together, and I think he got a great deal out of this.
01:19Like, he ends up coming out of this looking really good.
01:21And I agree with you guys.
01:22I heard you talking about that.
01:23He's going to love playing at Fenway Park.
01:25He's going to absolutely love playing in Boston.
