00:00Obviously, his free agency journey was a topic all season long here in Houston.

00:07We were talking about it as backdrop to the actual baseball season all year.
00:12My feeling on Bregman is,
00:14he's one of those guys that he is well worth the money,
00:21even more than your average player on a good team.
00:24The things that he does really well are
00:27the things that tend to show up more come October,
00:30just like the little things.
00:32Because when he first came into the league,
00:34Ted, when you and I were doing radio together,
00:35he was putting up monster numbers.
00:37He looked like he was going to be one of those 40 home run, 120 RBI guys.
00:42Somewhere along the way, that went out the window.
00:45He's a good offensive player in terms of the sheer counting numbers, but not great.
00:50But he's a great defensive player,
00:52and I know it sounds like he's going to play second base up there.
00:54I'm sure he'll be excellent at that because he's an excellent third baseman.
00:58But in the postseason,
01:00the little things that win all those close games like working counts,
01:04getting walks, just keeping the lineup moving, not striking out.
01:10All the things that you tend to notice more in October than you
01:13do in a series with the Angels in the middle of June, that kind of thing.
01:16He's just masterclass at that stuff.
01:19I think the biggest thing,
01:20and I actually was listening to you guys and I heard you guys talking about this,
01:23the leadership aspect is through the roof with Bregman.
01:25I'll just give you a quick anecdote about that.
01:28I'll make it quick.
01:29Hunter Brown, he's slowly,
01:33actually rapidly becoming the ace of the Astros staff.
01:37Through the first month and a half last year, he was terrible.
01:40He had the worst ERA in baseball.
01:42He had an ERA of nine.
01:43Bregman pulled him aside on a road trip on
01:46the plane and sat with him on the plane for about two hours,
01:48just talking, pitching, giving him some observations that he saw,
01:52giving him recommendations on things to tweak.
01:54I don't know how close you guys followed Hunter Brown last year,
01:58but he became one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last four months of the season.
02:02He attributes a lot of that to the advice that Bregman gave him.
02:06That's just one anecdote.
02:08There are anecdotes all over the clubhouse in Houston of Bregman.
02:12Whether you're a pitcher or a hitter,
02:14this guy is a baseball savant and the Red Sox are going to benefit greatly.
