00:00Would you consider this season for the Red Sox a success?
00:04I think big picture, no.
00:06You know what I mean?
00:06Because you just see the Boston Red Sox
00:08and you should be in the playoffs every single year.
00:11And that should be the expectation.
00:13What, three years in a row?
00:14It's the first time in 30 years you
00:16haven't made the postseason?
00:17So no, I mean, that's not a success.
00:21That's a disappointment.
00:23So then you kind of get over, but the disappointment
00:25was the offseason, right?
00:27So then you walk into spring training
00:28and you look at this group, and G Alito goes down,
00:31and Whitlock goes down, and Story goes down week one,
00:33and then Casas goes down two weeks later.
00:36And I remember the third week of April
00:37thinking this is going to be a disaster.
00:40But young guys stepped up.
00:42So from that point on, based on your expectations,
00:46there were a lot of good things.
00:47There were some building blocks.
00:49There was your three starters kind of gave you 30 starts
00:52and kind of got through it and gave you a foundation year.
00:55So there were some good things.
00:58I think that's why people would say it's a positive.
01:00And I've said that in the past, but that's only
01:03because your expectations of what
01:04they did not do in the offseason to make this team better.
