13 February - National weather forecast presented by Honor Criswick
Transcript
00:00Hello there. It's been cloudy and grey for some time now. A chance we could start to
00:05see something brighter on its way, but I'm afraid it's still going to be feeling rather
00:09chilly. The best of the brightness this afternoon, once again, across the far north and north-west
00:13of Scotland. This is where we're likely to see some sunshine. Elsewhere, there's still
00:17plenty of cloud around, but likely to see a few brighter interludes, particularly across
00:22southern parts of Scotland, northern England, perhaps parts of Wales, but more brightness
00:26rather than any sunshine. That's away from the far south-west, where we'll start to see
00:30some thicker cloud start to spill into parts of Cornwall. Winds will generally be a little
00:36bit lighter, but it's still going to be feeling chilly. Highs only roughly around 5 to 6 Celsius
00:41across many parts, so temperatures really struggling under those cloudier skies. Now,
00:46as we head through into the evening, where we see the clearest of skies across northern
00:50parts of Scotland, that's where it's likely to stay clear as we head into the overnight
00:54period, so turning frosty here. Even a few more clearer spells as we head into the overnight
00:58period, so once again, a chillier night on offer compared to recent nights. Likely to
01:02see some frost, possibly even some ice too. Some outbreaks of rain starting to push into
01:07Cornwall, parts of northern Ireland, perhaps the far south-west of Wales later, and a chance
01:11we could see some hill snow as this area of rain moves into colder air. Even a chance
01:16we could see some freezing rain, so do take care as there could be some icy stretches
01:19by the morning. But for many, most towns and cities just about dropping below freezing,
01:24so likely a colder night compared to recent nights, and definitely going to see some frost
01:28by the morning too. So a chilly start as we head into Friday. Still, these outbreaks of
01:34rain slowly edging their way north-eastwards. Still a chance we could see some snow, mainly
01:39across hills. Still continuing to see that risk of freezing rain too, so still a chance
01:43of some icy stretches. But away from this cloud and area of rain, that cloud breaking
01:47up a bit more, so perhaps seeing a bit more sunshine by the time we reach tomorrow afternoon.
01:52But temperatures remaining fairly similar, if not a touch below in some places. So despite
01:57a chance of seeing a little bit more sunshine on the cards tomorrow, it is still going to
02:01be feeling chilly. So we'll need to wrap up warm to enjoy it. Then what about the weekend?
02:06Well, we still have this battle between the high pressure in the east and low pressure
02:11in the west. And as this brings in some frontal systems and some rain and falls into that
02:15colder air, still a chance we could see some snow, once again a risk of some freezing rain.
02:20And then we end up with a bit of a split between that colder air still across the north-eastern
02:24part of the country, perhaps something a touch milder across the south-west. But for many
02:28it's still going to be remaining cold into the weekend. Perhaps more brightness on Saturday,
02:32but still plenty of cloud around on Sunday. A chance we could see perhaps something a
02:37little bit milder as we head into next week, but of course we'll update you on that here
02:41on our YouTube channel.
