00:00Good day and welcome to the Gulf News update for Thursday, August the 7th. Here are the
00:09top stories at this hour.
00:11Finding your way around Dubai has become easier as the Roads and Transport Authority links
00:15up with Google Glass to provide step-by-step guidance to public transport users. Google
00:20Glass users can now have access to all the information about public transport in Dubai,
00:25including timings, route maps, as well as the availability of various modes of transport
00:29through Google Maps.
00:31Liberia has declared a state of emergency due to the deadly Ebola outbreak as U.S. President
00:36Barack Obama said it was premature to send experimental drugs to victims in Africa. Declaring
00:42the state of emergency overnight, President Ellen Johnson Salif warned the extraordinary
00:46measures were needed for the very survival of our state. The Ebola virus has claimed
00:51nearly 1,000 lives in West Africa.
00:54Emirates has landed its first passenger-laden Boeing 777-200 in America's Windy City, marking
01:00its ninth U.S. route. The new daily Chicago route is the latest city in the airline's
01:04intense expansion into the United States and the second launch there this year following
01:09the addition of a Boston service in March.
01:12In sport, former world number one Tiger Woods will start the U.S. PGA today after recovering
01:17from the back injury that forced him to withdraw from Sunday's final round at Firestone. The
01:22American great was a serious down for the year's final major, but he practiced at the
01:26Valhalla on Wednesday and said he was pain free. Shah Rukh Khan launched a 2.3 billion
01:31dirham real estate project, the Royal Estates, in Dubai last night. But the Bollywood superstar
01:36refrained from giving any investment advice. However, he said a local development, a collaboration
01:41amongst companies Pal, Aristocrat and Pacific Ventures, would provide homes at affordable
01:46rates and that should attract buyers.
01:49Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong'o have made it to Vanity Fair's 2014 International Best
01:55Dressed list, while Britain's Duchess of Cambridge was named in its Hall of Fame. It is Blanchett's
02:00second appearance and the first for Nyong'o on the annual list, which does not rank its
02:04fashion stars. The style setter list is dominated by actors, but it also includes European royals,
02:09sports stars and artists.
02:12And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UOB, 38 degrees Celsius, falling to 32
02:17degrees at night.
