00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 video games
00:09everyone needs to play at least once.
00:13For this list, we'll be looking at the groundbreaking and genre-defining video games we believe
00:18everyone needs to experience once in their lives.
00:21Of course, to be fair, we're only including one game per franchise.

00:37Bioshock From the moment we descended into the watery
00:49depths and came across Rapture for the first time, we knew we had something special.
00:54With what we believe to be one of the finest FPS campaigns ever crafted, we were forced
00:58into the middle of a city at war.
01:01Around every corner were drug-grazed citizens, political machinations, and philosophical
01:04quandaries that kept us diving deeper.
01:07Rapture's lore and characters fascinated us, but the gameplay of Bioshock was also
01:11highly gratifying.
01:12At first, we felt like a lamb led to slaughter, but with upgradable weapons and a plethora
01:17of super-power-engranting plasmids to unlock, we became a god among men.
01:21Utterly thrilling in every sense, Bioshock is a masterpiece in tension and world-building.
01:31Portal 2 If you're looking for a game to flex your
01:40puzzle-solving muscles while experiencing a creative and often hilarious narrative,
01:45you should look no further than Portal 2.
01:47Both the single-player and multiplayer campaigns built on the incredible foundation of the
01:51first game, expanding in delightful ways.
01:54The new voice cast additions of J.K.
01:56Simmons and Stephen Merchant, as well as the return of Ellen McClain and GLaDOS, made the
02:00story fly off the screen.
02:02While playing alone, you'll uncover more dark history of Aperture.
02:05While playing with a friend, you'll find some of the best camaraderie-building brain
02:08teasers ever seen in video games.
02:11Simply put, there's no going wrong with Portal 2.
02:20Doom The FPS genre owes an awful lot to Doom.
02:29While Wolfenstein 3D may have come first, it's the Slayer's first outing that's
02:33the more influential.
02:35Never before had we felt so powerful and vicious within a video game, and there are few games
02:39in existence that have managed to top that feeling since.
02:42Genius in its simplicity, we could spend hours running around blasting through demonic hordes
02:47with extreme prejudice.
02:48How id Software managed to pack so much awesome into its gameplay and soundtrack still confounds
02:53us.
02:54There's a reason Doom has been ported to every platform under the sun, as well as a
02:58ton of non-gaming devices by passionate fans, because it's something everyone should experience.
03:08The Last of Us Part II may have divided the fanbase, but
03:17there's no denying how exceptional the first game is.
03:20Although the premise of a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a virus seems done to death,
03:25Naughty Dog proved it in an entirely new direction to take it in.
03:28The tale of Joel and Ellie, two deep characters forced into companionship, is one that will
03:32forever be celebrated in the annals of video game history.
03:36Thought-provoking and heartbreaking, The Last of Us expertly navigates complex themes
03:40and characterization, though the wonderful performances of Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker
03:44in the lead roles deserve just as much praise as the writing.
03:47On top of being a masterclass in storytelling, it's also frequently terrifying.
03:57Pokemon Gold and Silver
04:07Arguably gamers should play at least one entry in this long-running RPG series, but for us
04:12the peak of greatness came in Generation 2.
04:14Gold and Silver included the main drawing points of the original game's cute, powerful
04:18monsters to battle with, however it made several small changes to enhance the experience.
04:23Adding a hundred new Pokemon, and great ones at that, felt incredibly exciting.
04:27New gameplay features could give you the edge in battle, with new attacks and types,
04:31and your party's ability to carry items.
04:33Others were just fun inclusions, like the ability to breed Pokemon.
04:36Gold and Silver are near-perfect examples on how to build the sequel and expand your
04:40fanbase.
04:41You can't go wrong with the DS remakes either.
04:52Minecraft
04:58Minecraft is such a massively popular game that chances are you've already played it
05:02at least once anyway.
05:03But if you haven't, we'd be okay if you want to pause this video to rectify that.
05:08For more than a decade now, players have been getting sucked into the creative possibilities
05:12of these blocky worlds.
05:13Although its presentation is simple, that doesn't matter when you're building, crafting,
05:17exploring, and vanquishing surprisingly tough foes when you explore too deep.
05:22Seeing what players have been able to build, whether they be impressive recreations or
05:25monuments to their own imagination has astounded us.
05:28Thankfully, Minecraft still receives constant updates to keep the playerbase happy, and
05:32the inventiveness flowing.
05:39The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
05:47There are a plethora of must-play open-world fantasy RPGs, including the groundbreaking
05:51Skyrim.
05:52However, the open fantasy world we keep returning to time and time again is that of The Witcher
05:563 Wild Hunt.
05:57Although he'd starred in two previous games, it was here that we became enraptured with
06:01Geralt of Rivia through his profound relationship with Ciri, Vesemir, and Yennefer.
06:06The political strife of the continent compelled us, instilling a desire to play a part no
06:11matter how dastardly the other characters were.
06:13The fantastical beasts were at times imposing, and in others downright disgusting, but we
06:18loved using Geralt's variety of spells to take them down regardless.
06:25Super Mario Bros. 3
06:32To be completely honest, every player should play any Mario game at least once, but given
06:36our one-per-franchise rule, we have to go with this NES classic.
06:40With the rulers of various kingdoms transformed into animals, Mario and Luigi set out to make
06:44things right.
06:45Super Mario Bros. 3 is such a flawless platformer and a monumental step above what came before
06:50it in terms of game design.
06:52It began the trend of different themed worlds scaling beautifully in difficulty, and included
06:57exciting new power-ups like the Tanooki Leaf and the Hammer Seed.
07:00Despite its age, it's just as fun to play today as it was on release, and every Nintendo
07:05fan owes it to themselves to seek it out.
07:08Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
07:16Like Mario, multiple entries in Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series could appear here,
07:20but thanks to the engaging world, the amazing soundtrack, and the terrific characterization
07:24of its protagonist, San Andreas is a tough one to top.
07:28Upon returning home following his mother's murder, CJ is brought back into his old lifestyle
07:32and must contend with corrupt police officers and warring gangs.
07:36Rockstar took the real-life events of early 90s Los Angeles and melded them into its own
07:40narrative.
07:41It paid homage to the time period while giving us the tools to run rampant-causing mayhem,
07:46a staple of the franchise.
07:47Though it may not look it, San Andreas is still fun to play today, it's just a shame
07:51the remaster didn't do it justice.
07:54Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
07:58Batman Arkham Asylum
08:04Half-Life 2
08:13Undertale
08:19The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
08:27Ocarina of Time is one of the most important games ever released, so of course every gamer
08:32should experience it.
08:34Its influence on the action-adventure genre can still be seen today, yet itself still
08:38plays tremendously well.
08:40Everything from its music to its lore, from its characters to its puzzles enchanted us
08:44then, and remarkably they still do.
08:47Set up as a simple good-versus-evil story in a fantasy world, it subtly explores the
08:52loss of childhood and innocence, as well as the sacrifice that comes from answering a
08:56higher calling.
08:57Its levels and characters, whether big or small, remain some of the most iconic in the
09:02media.
09:03If you haven't played it, you're missing out on something truly extraordinary.
