00:00SportsGrid live on Radio Row out here in New Orleans.
00:05Kevin Walsh and Joe Lisi and Jeremiah Love, Notre Dame star running back, had yourself
00:11an incredible season.
00:12You guys go to the National Championship game, and when you look at the way it started and
00:18the way it finished, right, ultimately there was a moment that I was under the impression
00:24was going to be a turning point, which was that loss to NIU.
00:27I am still truly stunned that you guys turned that around.
00:33How?
00:34I am so blown away that that didn't ruin the season.
00:38You guys ended up having an amazing season, blowing past so many expectations.
00:42Yeah.
00:43What really changed after that game was really our mindset going into every other game.
00:47You know, obviously we started off the season great with Texas A&M, great win, and going
00:53into that second week, we just, we didn't quite know how to handle success.
00:58And kind of got to our heads a little bit.
01:01Preparation wasn't exactly the same.
01:04It was still, you know, how it usually is, but it just, something was lacking.
01:07And it showed in the game, and shoot, after that loss, we kept defending that loss and
01:13changed our mindset, never underestimated any opponent after, you know, NIU, and made
01:17sure that we covered the right ways, made sure we prepared, watched film, and just made
01:22sure we just went out there and played like us, you know, played to the best of our abilities
01:26and stood out there and nominated.
01:28Was there a moment for you, I can think of a couple for me, that just watching you play,
01:32I mean, the game in Yankee Stadium against Army, you dominate the touchdown run against
01:37Indiana.
01:38Is there one moment or one particular memorable experience from this season that stands out
01:44above the rest for you?
01:48I would say, I would say it was the Indiana game.
01:53At that time, I was batting a lot of things, I was sick, I had an injury.
01:58So mental peace was, had a huge mental hurdle I had to get over.
02:04And shoot, I fought that game, I came in and did what I did, and that was just a time where
02:09I was dealing with a lot of adversity.
02:13And I came out there and I played my best and, you know, did what I had to do and won
02:17the first playoff game in Notre Dame Stadium.
02:19Yeah, I mean, that's history.
02:20It's incredible.
02:21Ninety-eight yards doesn't get better than that.
02:22Yeah, I mean, that's history, right?
02:24Yeah.
02:25What's interesting to me is kind of when you think back to your decision to go to Notre
02:27Dame and how you made that decision because, I mean, we know it's a great school, we know
02:33it's a great program, right?
02:35But you're somebody who has huge aspirations, right?
02:39And you have to consider those when you make that decision.
02:41So what was it that drew you to the Notre Dame football program?
02:44It was really the people.
02:47I chose Notre Dame because the people were very welcoming since I stepped foot on campus.
02:53The coaches, I love the coaches.
02:55I love Coach Freed, Coach McCullough.
02:57And, shoot, everybody just welcomed me.
03:00And I felt like it was a home as soon as I stepped foot on campus.
03:04It was just, like, as soon as I stepped foot, I was like, man, I know I'm going to go here.
03:08Did you consider the offensive line in front of you was going to be loaded?
03:10Because usually that Notre Dame offensive line you can trust is going to open up some
03:14holes.
03:15Yeah, the offensive line definitely helped.
03:16Like going into my freshman year, we had Joe All, Blake Fisher, and, shoot, we had Zeke.
03:23Monsters.
03:24I'd love to run behind that offensive line.
03:26We had some dogs on the offensive line, so that definitely helped my decision.
03:31But ultimately, it was really just the people, the people and the coaches, and they made
03:36it so that it felt like it was my home, and, shoot, I just fit in as soon as I got there.
03:41I fit in perfectly.
03:42I want to ask you about Marcus Freeman, the head coach, right?
03:45Great defensive coordinator, takes over for Brian Kelly.
03:49And the way you have just transformed, I believe, the way you were under Brian Kelly to what
03:55we see now.
03:56I mean, you took that game offensively, defensively, to one of the best teams in the country, and
04:01I'm talking about the Georgia Bulldogs, in the semifinal playoff game.
04:05What has Marcus Freeman meant to you, and more importantly, just the program as a whole
04:11in terms of the recruiting process and how he operates as a head coach?
04:16Coach Free is, first off, he's a great person, great husband, great coach, and everybody
04:22really respects him on our team.
04:25And since he stepped foot in there, I wasn't there when Coach Freeman first became the
04:28head coach, but when he first stepped in there, it was just like, you know, he didn't try
04:33to change anything, like, no, we're going to change this and that.
04:36He accepted the culture of Notre Dame, adapted to it, but also put his pieces in there.
04:43And since day one, everybody's respected him, and he understands us not as only just players,
04:48but we're also people.
04:49He's a young coach, so he can relate to us more than older coaches can, and he's an all-around
04:56great guy.
04:57I mean, I respect Coach a lot, and I believe in his plan for this team, and he upholds
05:04the Notre Dame standard very well, and he makes sure that we're upholding that standard
05:07as well.
05:09And yeah, all love for Coach, much respect, and I'm pretty sure anybody on the team can
05:15say that for him.
05:16He's done some great things for this program, and shoot, this last, this previous season
05:21was one of the best seasons in Notre Dame history.
05:24Magical.
05:25It really was.
05:26Jeremiah, if we could put our eyes to the future, right, NFL running back Jeremiah Love,
05:32I mean, is there an ideal landing spot when you think about, you know, when that time
05:37does come?
05:38I'd be happy to go anywhere, but if I could, like, choose, like, not a specific place to
05:45go, but, like, I want to go somewhere with nice weather.
05:48I've been in cold weather my whole life.
05:49Don't get me wrong, I won't be mad, like, or, like, sad if I go somewhere with cold
05:56weather.
05:57Like, I'd love to go anywhere.
05:59Any team that's willing to accept me onto their team and let me come in and, you know,
06:03compete with their players and all that, I'd be happy, but.
06:06You wouldn't mind a nice November game in the sun?
06:09I wouldn't mind, you know, some nice little 70, 80 degree weather, like in Texas, playing
06:19with CJ and the crew, something like that, so, yeah, I wouldn't mind that.
06:24Notre Dame has had great running back success, you know, it's been under the radar, I think,
06:28and you look at Kyron Williams with the L.A. Rams, estimate now solidified the starting
06:33role for Denver during a portion of the year.
06:36Have some of those older guys reached out to you and have been in contact about what
06:40the league is all about?
06:42I haven't really talked to Kyron or Audrick much.
06:47I was there when Audrick was there, so, you know, I got to, you know, see, you know, his
06:51work ethic, I got to see, basically, what it took to, you know, prepare yourself to
06:56the next level, but I haven't really talked to him, but, like, Audrick has hit me up a
07:02couple times, but nothing like we're talking about, like, oh, you need to make sure you're
07:05doing this and that, it's more like, you know, just congratulating each other, telling each
07:10other to keep going, keep working hard, and, you know, just keep showing the world who
07:13you are, and, you know, Drick, shoot, like you said, he solidified his spot, started,
07:18he's doing great, and, you know, we just give each other, you know, their props, and, yeah.
07:24You guys do deserve a lot of props, I'm excited to watch this continue to grow at Notre Dame,
07:30and I am, 17 touchdowns, we always want more, 20 spot, that's probably where the eyes are,
07:37I'm sure.
07:38Notre Dame runner back, Jeremiah Love, with us on Sports Grid, Jeremiah, we really appreciate
07:42it.
07:44Yeah, awesome stuff, man.
