00:00If relegation from Ligue 1 is to be avoided by Bristol Rovers this season, then points
00:05picked up at the Memorial Stadium will be their saving grace. The recent win at home
00:10against high-flying Barnsley highlighted that under new head coach Inigo Calderon, the Gaffs
00:15have what it takes to give any team a competitive game.
00:18And it was to be another crucial three points for Bristol Rovers as they swept aside Peterborough
00:24by three goals to nil. For the Gaffs, James Wilson, Isaac Hutchinson and Ruil Sotriou
00:29were on the score sheet to make it 3-0 before rookie Jade Jones netted an injury time consolation
00:34for the travelling posh.
00:40After the match, head coach Calderon described the performance as the best of the season
00:45so far.
00:46Yeah, massive. You know, we were talking about the massive game, massive game, massive game.
00:51I've tried to take a bit of pressure off the players because I say that it's not going
00:57to make any change. If we had lost today, we would be in the same situation. Now we
01:02have won but we are in the same situation. It's true that obviously you want to win
01:05and especially I think the way we did today, it was really good because I think we started
01:10to show every game a bit better version of ourselves and I think today was really good.
01:15I think we defended better and what I mean about defending is not the defenders, it's
01:19everyone on the team. I think we pressed higher better. I think we defended our goal better
01:23and after with the ball I think we have good spells. I think we have good spells. We are
01:27able to alternate well to play long, to play short. I think it was overall probably the
01:31best performance we've played so far.
01:33Having three different goal scorers was something that also greatly pleased Calderon following
01:38the three points picked up against Peterborough.
01:41Yeah, that's good because otherwise if you just rely on one player it's going to be a
01:45problem because injuries happen or whatever. So having different scorers I think is good
01:51for the team and as you say the way we score goals, that is great for the boys because
01:56for example we were talking about the set-pieces that we didn't score before and we were working
01:59this week a bit more about that and that's good because when you worry about things in
02:04the training ground after seeing the game it's good. As I say I'm really, really happy
02:09with the boys today in the way we played and consistently during the 90 minutes. It's true
02:15that maybe the last five we relaxed a little bit but I had to understand it's normal as
02:19well that in training you start to do flicky-flickies that you don't really like too much but that's
02:23part of football.
02:25Bristol Rovers were also much more solid defensively, something which Calderon made clear had been
02:31worked on during the week in training.
02:35We framed the week like that, after Charlton it was like two days, Wigan and Charlton and
02:38I think we conceded two cheap goals, soft goals and we were talking about, I mean we
02:43were working about that the whole week, well the whole week, the three days we trained
02:46and as I say it's not just the defenders but it's obviously the defenders that have to
02:50have pride of that and I think as I say we defend better, we care more about defending
02:56our goal.
