Daniel Wales and Charles Hague-Jones review the latest results of Bristol City and Bristol Rovers.
Transcript
00:00We start off at the Kasam Stadium for an eventful afternoon between Oxford United and Bristol City.
00:06Dan, looking at Bristol City to start with, and their obviously previous results in the Championship, the weekend fixtures, Oxford United won, Bristol City won.
00:17Now obviously, again going into it, where we've mentioned their consistency, we've mentioned how important getting results against lower sides has been.
00:25It's been a bit of a struggle for Bristol City this season and they need to find that consistency again.
00:31What did you make about the results on the weekend and where it leaves them ahead of a fairly difficult run coming up in the Championship?
00:40Well actually, I think it was quite an impressive result in the manner in which they got it, because of course they were down to 10 men half an hour in with Bristol City.
00:48They were always fighting an uphill battle, they also went behind as well, 1-0 down against Liam Manning's former side.
00:54But then they got themselves back into it in the second half, equalised, and then about 10 minutes to go, 5 minutes to go, down to 9 men, making it equally tough.
01:03Those last few minutes of additional time as well, really a slog for Bristol City.
01:09But to come away with a point, despite Oxford being lower down than them in the table, was actually a really good result.
01:15And to be fair to them, the consistency of late has been better. They are getting much closer to the play-off places now.
01:20They've picked up some really valuable wins and results in recent weeks.
01:24And as much as that wasn't a win, the confidence that they'll get from that by grinding out a good draw with conditions and the context against them will do their confidence no end of good.
01:36Next to the Memorial Stadium for Bristol Rovers against Peterborough United.
01:41And Dan, looking at Bristol Rovers' weekend results, 3-1 at home to Peterborough.
01:47Had the game wrapped up, obviously Peterborough grabbed a very late consolation goal.
01:51But we talked going into this game, it was massive in terms of the league positions, how close they are in the table.
01:58It leaves Rovers one point above them and they do a little leapfrog.
02:03That's really important that you are winning against the teams around you, especially when you're down there and fighting for survival.
02:09Where does this put Bristol Rovers? How confident will this make them with this fantastic home win?
02:16Yeah, well, after the disappointment of the weekend athletic results the week prior, they needed something quite desperately, to be honest.
02:24And they got that against Peterborough side, who, as you mentioned, are in and around them in the table as well.
02:30And they put them to the sword in the manner in which they had to do it.
02:33They had also been beaten by Charlton in midweek as well.
02:36So it was two losses off the balance. So really, a return to winning ways was an absolute must for Bristol Rovers.
02:43And that's what they got. A really composed and professional, mature performance against Peterborough.
02:49And it's, as you say there, leapfrogged them in the table as well.
02:52They've got themselves a little bit of a cushion now to relegation, which is what they wanted.
