00:02I knew this was happening.
00:03This unusual clip from 2016 has recently resurfaced and gone viral online for its particularly odd set of circumstances.
00:10In August 2016, a man named Edward was allegedly caught trying to meet an underage person in a grocery store.
00:17But instead of running from his confronters or denying why he was there,
00:20he makes the odd choice to walk directly up to the camera and proclaim,
00:24I knew this was happening. Yeah, I know this. I know this is happening. Thank you.
00:28The video was taken by Surrey Creepcatchers, a Canadian vigilante predator catching group,
00:32and posted to their Facebook and YouTube accounts in 2016.
00:35Those accounts have now seemingly been deactivated.
00:37In the video, Edward goes on to continue engaging with the creepcatchers,
00:41strangely complimenting them and applauding what they do,
00:44while fully admitting he was there to meet an underage individual.
00:47What you do is actually smart with the actual people that you do try to catch.
00:50Right. Well, we just caught you.
00:52Yeah, I know.
00:52He also tries to warn them about the dangers of confronting predators.
00:56What you guys do can also be very dangerous.

00:59Because, like, say you meet someone and you don't know them, right? You don't know them at all.

01:03So they come up, and then what if they also come with a group of guys?

01:08The rest of the four-minute video basically sees Edward trying to convince the creepcatchers that
01:12he intended to be an older brother figure to the 13-year-old he was intending to meet.
01:16But why is this video gaining popularity almost a decade later?
01:20The video made the rounds on the internet over the years. Like, for example, in 2021,
01:24YouTuber Mike Fox made a video reacting to it.
01:26It's so nice of you to worry about the people that catch
01:31the child predators like yourself, my friend.
01:33But it reached a wider audience after being uploaded to TikTok in 2024 by the TikTok account
01:38Creepcatcher Canada, where it gained over a million likes over the course of 10 months,
01:42and thus began its memetic spread across the platform.
01:44Some early reposts of the video refer to Edward as 4'11 Pred because of his stature.
01:49The TikTok account iGreenscreenThings shared a green screen template of the video in March,
01:53which others started using to place Edward in different settings, like TikToker YoungBoyWannabe,
01:58whose August 2024 post placed him in a school hallway setting,
02:01adding a POV caption about catching a friend walking around with a freshman.
02:05Memers also referenced the clip in other ways,
02:07like reenacting it in video games and even drawing the video's subject.
02:11Soon, the phrase,
02:12I knew this was happening, started being used in brain rot memes,
02:14which combined it with lines of dialogue from other viral videos spreading at the same time.
