Bristol Light Festival has officially kicked off with 10 nights of dazzling light and sound installations.

The free festival is founded by Bristol City Centre Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Redcliffe & Temple BID and Cabot Circus (festival Artwork Partner) and curated by multi award-winning Creative Director, Katherine Jewkes.

This year’s installations are spread across Castle Bridge, St Stephen’s Church Garden, Temple Church, City Hall (College Green), Amphitheatre, St Mary Redcliffe Gardens, Queen Square, Quakers Friars and The Podium (Broadmead).

But what do locals think of the event? And which were their favourite installations?

00:00Bristol Light Festival has officially opened. Let's find out what locals think of this year's festival.
00:06So we've been big fans of the Bristol Light Festival for many years and this year is amazing because it's first of all it's so much sounds more than we had in previous years and we really enjoyed that and because there's so much interaction going on with the art installations so it's more interactive, more music, more fun.
00:26It's very cool, we've not been here for very long but so far it's been amazing.
00:30It's nice how accessible it is because you don't have to pay, you can just walk through and it's nice to explore places in Bristol that we haven't really gone to.
00:40It's my first Light Festival, I'm really sad I missed last year's but I'm loving this year's.
00:46Yeah no it's really good, I've been the last two years I think and this is the best one so far.
00:52It's the best of Bristol?
00:53Yeah.
00:54I just got here and the swings look awesome, it's my first thought.
00:58It's really beautiful, it's honestly amazing right?
01:03Yeah it's been incredible how interactive everything has felt and how light and community and music have all come together in these unique spaces and spaces that we've lived here for like 10 years haven't even been into in regards to, I don't remember what it's called but where you're from.
01:22Temple Church.
01:23Temple Church?
01:24Yeah.
01:25What about you?
01:26Yeah and I've lived in Bristol for 13 years and I haven't been to this yet, it's been fantastic.
01:32Do you have a favourite installation so far?
01:35This one.
01:36This one, I think the best tunes and it's gorgeous.
01:40Yeah, stunning.
01:41But they've all been really good.
01:43That's a tough one there, many good ones.
01:45I have to say I like the exhibit that we see here behind me very much.
01:50It's calm and it's quiet and slow but if you give it the time to let it grow on you it actually is lovely.
01:58I also like the one in Quakers Friars, the disco style laser show, that was very good.
02:04Probably just the last one we've been to, we've only been to two.
02:07The one at the Amphitheatre.
02:09Definitely the swings.
02:12Oh the church, Temple Church by far.
02:15Yeah, that was really good.
02:17It's normally a forbidden space, you're never allowed in.
02:21Yeah, that was beautiful.
02:23What about you?
02:24I really, the drum and bass one was really good.
02:26I was going to say the one where Cars used to be, the drum and bass one felt very Bristol
02:31but it was nice that the music was loud enough that everybody could get involved, it wasn't too much,
02:36the lights were incredible, it was a great, it was a very community experience, very Bristol experience.
