00:00Five Chinese nationals have been arrested for espionage in the country.

00:05This is Rod Lagusa of PTV for Balitang Pambansa.

00:11This is just perhaps the tip of the iceberg.

00:14This is how AAP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brunner Jr.

00:18depicted the latest arrest of five Chinese nationals involved in espionage.

00:24Two of them were arrested in Naia,

00:26one in Intramuros, one in Binondo, and one in Dumaguete.

00:30Based on an intelligence gathering monitored by the Chinese in Barangay Bueno Vista

00:34or Puerto Princesa City in Palawan,

00:36it is assumed that they are buying marine products in the area.

00:39The group was also spotted in Ulugan Bay in Puerto Princesa

00:43and was conducting aerial surveillance and reconnaissance using a drone.

00:47The group of the Imagery Intelligence and Naval Detachment Oster Bay

00:51was part of the Philippine Navy Naval Forces West stationed near the West Philippine Sea.

00:56Military-grade, high-resolution, solar-powered CCTVs with night vision and Wi-Fi were also with the Chinese nationals.

01:05The images of the Buliluyan Port in Palawan,

01:09its Coast Guard and Vessel Stations, and other Navy Crafts and Vessels were also seen.

01:13Subic and PCG in Manila were also part of the group.

01:17According to Brunner, it is not yet possible to say that a state-sponsored espionage.

01:22We know for a fact that these images, this video that they are taking,

01:28are being sent, transmitted somewhere else.

01:31But we still don't know where the receiving end is.

01:37That is why we cannot yet conclude that.

01:40Information are actually being sent real-time, not delayed.

01:45And of course, if it is real-time, they know where our target is.

01:51This is the reason why the Resupply Mission found out.

01:55It was only in 2023 when these people started to monitor.

02:00And let us also clarify that they are not arrested because they are Chinese.

02:05They are arrested because they are violating our commonwealth law

02:10that if you survey our defense facilities without authority,

02:19that is a violation of our law.

02:21So even if they happen to be Chinese.

02:25This group is connected to the first group that was arrested for espionage.

02:30According to NBI Director Jaime Santiago,

02:33Deng Yuanqing graduated from the People's Liberation Army of China.

02:38The last suspects are also connected to this group.

02:41The suspects are members of the Quo Xing Volunteer Group of the Philippines

02:46and the Philippine-China Association of Promotion of Peace and Friendship, Inc.

02:50They are carrying out medical missions and are accompanied by some politicians.

02:54Meanwhile, the first Chinese and two Filipinos arrested for espionage

02:59have already entered the Inquest Proceeding and filed a case

03:03in the Makati Regional Trial Court.
