00:00Let's take a look at how a well-known Chinese school in the country celebrated the Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year.
00:08How important is this celebration to them?
00:12Let's watch this.
00:15It's Lunar New Year.
00:17That's why we greet you with Gong Xi Fa Cai.
00:20Lunar New Year is celebrated by several countries
00:24such as Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and China.
00:31And here in the country, you can find the longest China Town in the world,
00:37and that is Angbinondo.
00:39That's why it's a big tradition to celebrate Lunar New Year in the country.
00:44And here in a Filipino Chinese school in Manila,
00:47it has become a loud and lively celebration
00:50where young people are dressed in high-quality red clothes
00:55and different cultural events are held.
00:59This celebration actually is very important for us, Chinese Filipinos,
01:05because it augurs not only our roots or traditions as Chinese Filipinos,
01:12but also, at the same time, it brings the traditions, our culture, our arts,
01:18from China to the Philippines.
01:21And, of course, being Filipinos, by our blood, by our heart,
01:27we also want to maintain our traditions,
01:31but inculcating it with the Filipino culture already.
01:36Dragon and Lion Dance, Cultural Dance Performance,
01:40Wushu Exhibition, and Hanfu or Traditional Chinese Attire Fashion Show Competition were held.
01:47The Traditional Chinese Attire Competition,
01:51which was held by grade school and junior high school, is colorful and lively.
01:55Hanfu attire, because most of the migrants during the time of our grandparents,
02:01came from the Fujian province.
02:03So, we're looking at maintaining and preserving the culture
02:08brought by our ancestors here in the Philippines.
02:12So, if you noticed in our fashion show,
02:14it's an integration already of Chinese Hanfu, which is Fujian in nature,
02:21and integrating it to mainstream Filipino Chinese traditions already.
02:28From our history itself, we will know that
02:30China made a big contribution to the development of our country.
02:37A new year brings a new life,
02:41which will be full of blessings,
02:43and each person's life will be full of happiness.
