00:00The BBC have been hard at work in the kitchen,
00:03cooking up a fresh season of Great British Menu,
00:07and they're just about ready for service.
00:10Hi, I'm TV and tech writer, Matt Mohan-Hickson.
00:13This is all you need to know about the landmark
00:1520th series of The Great British Menu on BBC Two.
00:20There's been a bit of a change in the recipe
00:22for the judging room this year.
00:25Ed Gamble, he of Treaders on Pork fame
00:28and the Off Menu podcast is back,
00:30along with Tom Kerridge, the award-winning chef,
00:33who I'm sure all viewers will recognise at this point.
00:37However, Nisha Katona is not back for this year.
00:41So last year, the 2024 season was her last on the show.
00:46She has been replaced by Lorna McNeigh,
00:48who is probably a familiar face
00:51to people who regularly watch Great British Menu
00:54or watch it every year or binge-watched it in recent years,
00:58but she actually won the show in 2019.
01:00So she's back six years later to be one of the judges.
01:04And of course, Andy Oliver is yet again on hosting duty.
01:08So she's front of house,
01:12helping all throughout the competition.
01:15For its 20th series,
01:17the show is themed of Great Britains.
01:21So last year's was Olympics
01:24and previous years have been like waste
01:28and stuff like that.
01:29But for 2025, the theme is Great Britain.
01:32So the chefs will pick landmark monumental people
01:37from modern day or ancient times
01:41or throughout history in their regions
01:43and use them as inspiration for the dishes.
01:46You know, that's part of the Great British Menu
01:49is using the theme to come up
01:51with inventive dishes and courses
01:53and trying to get that into the banquet
01:55at the end of the competition.
01:58The show is once again split up into regional heats.
02:01So it starts with the Northwest
02:03and will continue across the British Isles.
02:06So there'll be Scotland, there'll be Wales,
02:08there'll be the Northeast,
02:09there'll be the Southwest of England and so on and so on
02:14over the next coming weeks.
02:16And then there'll be finals week
02:17and of course the banquet itself.
02:20So there's plenty to look forward to.
02:21There'll be four chefs every week in the regional heat
02:24who will compete and be whittled down
02:25until one makes it through to finals week from each region.
02:29So be one representative of each region
02:34there at finals week later in 2025.
02:38This year, as mentioned, the theme is Great Britains
02:41and there'll be three episodes a week
02:43airing on BBC Two and also on iPlayer.
02:47If you watch it on iPlayer,
02:48the episodes will drop all at once.
02:51So you have the choice of savouring them across the week
02:56until you get your next morsel
02:58or gorging yourself on a tasting menu
03:01and having them all in one sitting.
03:02But yeah, it's gonna be on TV for the foreseeable future,
03:07the next couple of weeks, couple of months.
03:09So plenty to look forward to
03:11and then we'll find out who made it
03:12onto the Great British menu for 2025.
