Shake and Bake Cafe Sdn Bhd and its managing director, Ewe Sarn Yuen, were charged at separate Sessions Court in Petaling Jaya on Friday (Jan 24) with the misuse of the halal logo on sandwiches supplied to KK Mart convenience stores recently.

00:00Shake and Bake, Cafe Sendirian Berhad and its Managing Director, Yusarn Yuen, have been
00:09charged with the misuse of the halal logo on sandwiches supplied to KK Mart convenience
00:14stores.
00:16Yu pleaded not guilty to six charges in front of two judges at the Petaling Jaya Sessions
00:21Court on Friday.
00:22The charges are based on Section 4, Subsection 1 of the Trade Descriptions Order, Halal Definition
00:292011, which deals with the supply of products that could mislead consumers into thinking
00:34they are halal.
00:36The sandwiches involved in the charges include mixed tuna, mixed potato, mixed chicken, egg
00:41mayo, ham and cheese and chili crab stick varieties.
00:45Sixty-five-year-old Yu allegedly committed the offences at Shake and Bake's premises
00:50in Sanway, Damansara on January 10.
00:53If convicted, Yu could face a fine of up to RM100,000, a jail term of up to three years
00:59or both.
01:00Shake and Bake, represented by Yu, also pleaded not guilty to six charges for the same offence.
01:07Additionally, both Yu and Shake and Bake face charges of falsely applying a registered trademark
01:14to goods or services under Section 100 of the Trademarks Act, 2019.
01:20Yu and the company denied the charges.
01:22Deputy public prosecutors Shafiq Mahadi and Hakim Izani proposed bail at RM60,000 for
01:29each charge, citing the public interest in the case.
01:32They also requested that Yu surrender his passport.
01:36Yu's lawyer, Hamdan Hamza, argued for a bail of RM120,000 for all charges, stating that
01:43his client had been cooperative during the investigation.
01:47The court set bail at RM130,000 for all charges and ordered Yu to surrender his passport.
01:55The next case mention is scheduled for March 5.
