In his opening speech at the ground-breaking ceremony of Masjid Madani at Jalan Masjid India on Thursday (March 27), Jakel Group managing director Datuk Mohamed Faroz Mohamed Jakel said the mosque was the dream of his late father Mohamed Jakel Ahmad.
He added that the mosque is not to replace the surrounding mosques of Masjid India or the IPD Dang Wangi surau but to cater to the Muslim community in the area.

00:30When we look around this mosque area, we will see a reality that cannot be denied.
00:37It is busy, dense, and becomes the center of the economy and livelihood for thousands of Muslims who come from all over the world to trade and work.
00:47However, behind that busyness, there is a basic need that is often neglected.
00:53The mosque.
00:55A place to worship, a place to find peace in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the city.
01:00However, all this time, how many people are forced to pray outside, on the side of the road, under the scorching heat and heavy rain.
01:08The question is, until when?
01:10And that is what my late father often asked.
01:13He does not see this problem as something that can be looked at lightly.
01:18For him, this is a responsibility.
01:21It is a duty.
01:22If we are able to help, why don't we do it?
01:26It all started in 2009, when the discussion between the Jakarta and DPKL parties went ahead.
01:33The result?
01:34The official letter was issued on August 6, 2012,
01:38followed by a deposit payment of 10% on August 8, 2012.
01:43Subsequently, in 2014,
01:46the agreement with the DPKL was signed.
01:49And the deposit payment was completed.
01:52This mosque will be built on Munsyi Abdullah Street, near the Jekyll Mall.
01:57It is not to replace the Indian Mosque,
02:01and also not to replace the IPD and Wangi Surau.
02:05But to complete the urgent need.
02:09We have been waiting for 11 years,
02:12and we want to take legal action against our neighbours.
02:18However, the YB, Dr. Zalihar,
02:24said that this will be a big issue for the community.
02:28He advised me and Nizam to meet his Prime Minister,
02:34Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
02:36At that time, I submitted this proposal to the Prime Minister,
02:42and he asked,
02:43has the name of the mosque been decided?
02:45I explained that I and my colleagues have discussed and considered several names,
02:51including Masjid Jekyll,
02:52or the names of the companions of the Prophet SAW,
02:55as a solution.
02:56And the Prime Minister agreed with our proposal.
02:59But when we returned, we discussed,
03:02as a family,
03:04and in the end, we decided to choose the name Masjid Madani.
03:08We consider this name as a form of respect
03:12to the efforts of the government today,
03:14under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,
03:19in building a more just society,
03:22and also to unite all of Malacca.
03:26More importantly,
03:27the name Madani was chosen because it represents the deep values of Islam.
03:31Kindness,
03:32respect,
03:33unity,
03:34and unity.
03:35This mosque will stand as a symbol of peace that unites souls and communities.
03:41Today, we are grateful
03:43because we see the first step towards its construction.
03:46However, we also realize that this project is not as easy as we see it.
03:52Without enthusiasm, patience, and consistent leadership.
03:55It is not a secret that this effort has gone through many challenges.
03:59However, today, under the leadership of the Prime Minister,
04:03we see a change.
04:05Not a promise,
04:06but an implementation.
04:07We have been patient for 11 years.
04:09Finally, Alhamdulillah.
04:11You made it.
04:13You are the man.
