Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim performed Friday prayer at the iconic Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur.

Members of the congregation took the opportunity to shake hands and take photos with the country's number one leader.

00:13Anwar arrived at about 1.20pm and was greeted by the mosque management

00:39Masjid India was established 160 years ago
00:42and was built by Indian Muslim traders who did business in the area in 1863.

00:53After prayers, the Prime Minister, accompanied by Dang Wangi,
00:57District Police Chief ACP Sulizmi Afendi Sulaiman,
01:01went on a walkabout in the area that's popular with both locals and tourists alike.
01:06Berita Harian reported that Anwar took note that the rows of shops and stalls,
01:11including those that have been established for a long time,
01:14are major tourist attractions in the capital that require attention.
01:19He said the Federal Territories Ministry, through DBKL,
01:23will be asked to survey the business areas that are worn out,
01:26dilapidated and in need of improvements.
01:30He added that this can be done and resolved
01:32using the fast-track method to provide comfort to visitors
01:36and at the same time help small traders and vendors develop their businesses.
