00:00The producer of the chicken slices used in the controversial ham and cheese sandwich,
00:06Shake and Bake Cafe Sendirian Berhat has asserted that their products are certified halal by
00:11the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia, JAKIM.
00:15In a statement, the company clarified that the sandwiches' other ingredients include
00:19bread and cheese.
00:21They also revealed that officials from the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry
00:25and JAKIM visited their factory on January 10th at noon, with investigations currently
00:30underway.
00:31Shake and Bake Cafe pledged full cooperation with both authorities during the probe.
00:35Earlier, it was reported that KK Supermart had initiated legal action against one of
00:39its food suppliers after a sandwich produced by the supplier was found to have allegedly
00:45misused a Malaysian halal certificate.
00:48In a statement on Monday, KK Supermart disclosed that it filed a police report on January 11th
00:54regarding the matter.
00:56The retailer has since terminated its business relationship with Shake and Bake Cafe and
01:01engaged its legal counsel, David Gurupatham and Koi Advocates and Solicitors, to issue
01:06a letter of demand dated January 10th, 2025 to Shake and Bake Cafe Sendirian Berhat.
01:13The controversy arose after a ham and cheese sandwich sold at a KK Concepts store in University
01:18Malaya caused a public outcry last week for displaying the Malaysian halal logo.
