00:00On yesterday's game Sal, I just saw you tweeting out the the snap counts for the game
00:05And we had spent so much time during the week of defensive game planning and Taryn Johnson versus Dorian Williams
00:13And they ended up doing what we kind of thought they do right like it was
00:18There was Taryn Johnson was still on the field a good amount, but they definitely mixed it up
00:2360-40 was basically the the amount I think a little bit is maybe skewed there because Taryn did go off the field for a play
00:30You know Dorian I think late in the game
00:32They might have done a couple things differently because they were going a little bit more dime
00:35I think Matt Milano came out the field for a few plays late in the game
00:38So I have to figure out how the personnel worked there
00:40But if you take a look the Bills had 59 total snaps guys on defense Taryn Johnson played
00:4436 of those that's 61 percent Dorian Williams played 24 of those that's 41 percent. So you add those up
00:50There's only one extra snap in there. So really I mean you could say it was just about just over
00:5460-40 they went nickel versus base and I would say the biggest reason was really simply matching personnel
01:00This was not a philosophical necessarily
01:04like
01:05You know, what just a big bad Ravens. We're gonna put more linebackers on the field. They were maxing they were mixing personnel and
01:12Matching personnel I should say and when the Ravens brought in two tight ends and a fullback
01:15It was completely Dorian Williams and base defense when they didn't when they went one tight end generally
01:21It was nickel with Taryn Johnson. There's gonna be probably some down and distance mixed in there
01:26But yeah, we made a big deal of it and look that that that's what happened
01:29We wondered how would the Bills do it how much base defense they played almost half their game in base defense?
01:34That's a lot for the Buffalo Bills to play but they were mixing and matching personnel for sure
01:37They also blitz Lamar Jackson. They sent five rushers quite often trying to get there trying to get some pressure
01:43So when you when you step back and look at how the defense played in this game, you know, what's your what's your main takeaway?
01:49Outside of like the base defense conversation who was it defensive line linebackers like I'm thinking about Terrell Bernard
01:56specifically how important he is to this defense a third-year player a captain a
02:00Splash player kind of guy and a guy that I was just watching tomorrow Hamlin talk about it
02:05How without him out there without Bernard out there?
02:08They're not the same defense and I thought that was clearly on display last night
02:12no doubt and we all know that they missed Bernard and Milano and Taryn Johnson in week number four and
02:18I think that the impact of Terrell Bernard shows up what you said mostly the splash plays
02:24We saw here Tremaine Edmonds for five years play middle linebacker and he was a good middle linebacker Tremaine Edmonds
02:30What did we always say was missing from Tremaine Edmonds game splash plays?
02:34He didn't make game-changing plays to rub Bernard makes game-changing plays Mark Andrews hadn't lost a fumble in five years
02:41Is it guys I think I read yeah, right
02:43I mean like the guy catches the ball to rub Bernard
02:46I mean that is
02:47Intentional what he does he sees that ball in a split second is able to punch it with his hand and punch it out
02:53That's not something to happen. It just happens stance. It just happens
02:56He did that intentionally my take on the defense is something I've talked about with a defense all year
03:01Which is kind of a scary thought but also hey here we are which is
03:04Can you really be sustainable getting turnovers all the time to kind of you know to win games the Bills gave up?
03:12460 yards of offense they did not force the Ravens to punt, but they turn them over three times
03:16That's that that's literally the difference in the game the turnovers are the difference in the game
03:20It's the Bills getting getting three of them forcing three of them and not turning the ball over themselves
03:26I mean that that's how they've lived this year now granted again. It's something that you say well
03:31You can't do that every every week
03:33They kind of have here really the only game they didn't was LA and look how that turned out
03:37But that's part of their mo
03:38So my take on the defense is the defense does what it did what it always does which is make big plays they ball hawk
03:45they go after the ball and they can afford to do that because they have an
03:48Offense that doesn't give the other team the ball and really to me that was the story of this game the big big plays on
03:54Defense that caused turnovers and the fact that the Buffalo Bills did not make mistakes the Bills didn't make mistakes in this game
04:00Those are penalized one time
04:01I mean they really did not make mistakes in this game the Ravens made mistakes in this game it
04:07Somebody said we were doing always game day in Buffalo last night and that what we said it was kind of a cheesy win
04:12Right she's the cheese for they wait for you to make mistakes and they capitalize. That's what the Bills did
04:18But that's what they've been doing all year guys
