00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're counting down our picks for the 20 scariest, creepiest,
00:16and most terrifying creatures in horror games.
00:19Now be prepared for plenty of frightful moments ahead.
00:29Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:33the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:39Volatiles – Dying Light When night falls in the world of Dying Light,
00:43the true terror begins.
00:45Volatiles are ruthless, fleshy, zombified predators that are a true force to be reckoned
00:49with.
00:50What makes Volatiles so horrifying is that they are incredibly hard to put down, with
00:54your best option just being to run and parkour away to the nearest safehouse, waiting for
00:59dawn's light.
01:00Fast, relentless, and utterly sturdy, these unique infected not only have menacing visages,
01:06but also have powerful attacks and leaps that are simply unmatched by the player.
01:22Silent Hills – Pyramid Head Almost as iconic as Pyramid Head, more on
01:33that monstrosity later, Silent Hills' nurses are the stuff of nightmares.
01:38These prolific haunting killers contort, twist, and bend as they flail towards the player,
01:43bloody knife in hand, ready to deal an unholy treatment.
01:47Given Silent Hills' penchant for imbuing dark, challenging, and macabre themes and
01:51motifs into its abominations, it's really no surprise the nurses show up in so many
01:56entries in the series.
01:58Their terror comes not just from their ruthless ferocity, but also in the way their disfigured
02:03looks and disproportionate movements can often spell a quick death for the player.
02:20Slenderman – Slenderman Series Slenderman likely needs no introduction at
02:32this point, given that this well-dressed, yet utterly terrifying entity has been featured
02:36prominently in various mediums.
02:38It's the way that Slenderman almost looks normal, something I say of course in heavy
02:43quotes, with his very much human figure, if a bit elongated, dapper suit, and general
02:48stance that make him so off-putting.
02:50He's always there, creeping, watching, waiting, staring.
02:55Slenderman's relentless pursuit of the player in the OG game and The Arrival showcase the
02:59shadowy power of this nightmarish being.
03:02Once you see his tendril-like appendages released from his body, you know it's too late for
03:07you.
03:08While this entity might not look as outright terrifying like other creatures on this list,
03:12it's his blend of mundane, uncanny, and hauntingness that ensures he seeps his way
03:16into the mind.
03:25Chris Walker – Outlast With a pretty generic name like Chris Walker,
03:29there really shouldn't be anything that terrifying, right?
03:32Well, unfortunately no.
03:33Chris Walker is a predator, a hunter, an incredibly violent, once-human creature you happen to
03:39stumble across early on in the derelict and decaying walls of Mount Massive Asylum.
03:44While he might just look like a hulking brute of a man, this deranged killer is pure monster
03:49through and through.
03:50The nefarious Murkoff Corporation really did a number on Chris, with various different
03:55experimentations, something he now uses to render flesh from bone for those hapless inmates
04:00who call this asylum home.
04:02Just to stay as far away from him as possible.
04:25Nemesis – Resident Evil 3 A hulking monstrosity who relentlessly pursues
04:29the player, and who also just so happens to have a powerful rocket launcher?
04:33Yeah, for our money that's pretty darn terrifying.
04:36Resident Evil 3's Nemesis looks like it was cobbled, stitched, and crafted together
04:40with skin, muscle, and bone, almost like an umbrellified version of Frankenstein's monster.
04:46It's the sheer size and raw power that Nemesis wields that makes him so menacing.
04:51Nowhere truly feels safe in RE3 when Nemesis prowls about, ready to send you to your grave.
04:58Gatherers – Amnesia The Dark Descent Even if you've never actually played Amnesia
05:12The Dark Descent, there's no doubt you have at least seen these gangly-limbed, fleshing-gaping
05:17mod monstrosities before.
05:19Aptly named Gatherers, these nightmare-inducing creatures can quickly steal away protagonist
05:24Daniel's sanity in rapid fashion if he happens to look at them for just too long.
05:29The way Gatherers amble about Brennenberg Castle, growling to themselves in the darkness,
05:34always makes them terrifying to encounter, especially because Daniel has no way to defend
05:39himself.
05:52The Guests – Little Nightmares Now, when you think of having guests over
06:09to your house for a nice dinner or some sort of party, your mind likely conjures up images
06:14of polite friends, cordial family, laughter, and plenty of good times had by all.
06:20Well, Little Nightmares as the Guests are anything but these things.
06:23These horrid, human-esque creatures are the epitome of off-putting.
06:27They will gobble up Protagonist Six any chance they get, especially since they are constantly
06:32gorging themselves on all manner of food and non-food alike.
06:36The Guests are all about gluttony in every shape and fashion.
06:39Their trance-like state and inability to do anything but waddle around, scarf down hordes
06:44of food, and sometimes take naps sums up their mindless yet ravenous, horrifying stupor.
06:57Pyramid Head – Silent Hill Series Now, it's really hard to argue with Pyramid
07:13Head's iconic status in survival horror.
07:16This infamous foe breaks through the barrier of outward terror by also representing the
07:20deep inner trauma and psyche of those trapped in Silent Hill, specifically when it comes
07:25to James Sunderland in Silent Hill 2, although Pyramid Head does of course appear in many
07:29other Silent Hill titles in one form or fashion.
07:33This brute of a beast is iconic for his massive, rusted pyramid head-slash-helmet and his gargantuan
07:38executioner-like sword.
07:40Each time you encounter Pyramid Head in a Silent Hill game, the dread sets in, the darkness
07:45descends, and the horror really begins.
08:04The Witch – Left 4 Dead Series The Witch might look unassuming, much to
08:17her advantage, as she sits or stumbles along, crying, moaning, and wailing.
08:22Newbie Left 4 Dead players might think she is just an unfortunate, hapless NPC, however,
08:27once agitated, it's clear the player is now the one in the unfortunate situation.
08:32Yep, that's right, get too close to the Witch, or make too much noise in the vicinity,
08:36and heaven forbid accidentally attack her, then the Pandora's Box of Horror is well
08:41and truly open.
08:42The Witch's ferocity is simply unmatched.
08:44She will instantly hone in on the aggravator, quickly sending them to their grave.
08:49Just follow this one rule in Left 4 Dead, don't mess with the Witch.
09:02The Baby Monster – Resident Evil Village This entry could really just be summed up
09:20as the following.
09:21A giant, hulking, fleshy, bloody, grotesque, baby-like monster who yells and wails, endlessly
09:27pursuing the player with surprising speed, in the bowels of House Beneviento.
09:31I mean, come on, that's a lot to deal with in a game already brimming with terrifying
09:36creatures.
09:37The Resident Evil games have always had unexpected, if horrifying surprises, but the Baby Monster
09:43really was unbelievably unexpected when players first encountered it.
09:59Alma Wade – Fear Series Okay, it might be a bit of a stretch to call
10:15Alma Wade a creature, since for all intents and purposes, she is a regular human girl,
10:20albeit with strong psychic abilities, who unfortunately was experimented on via the
10:25Armacham Technology Corporation.
10:27These inhumane experiments sought to extort Alma's powers for financial gain, something
10:33they likely deeply regretted given it gave her a bevy of unholy, uber-powerful supernatural
10:39mind control abilities.
10:40Alma's appearances in the first Fear game were so terrifying because they always seemed
10:45to come out of left field, just like when climbing down a regular old ladder.
10:49And well, Fear 2's Alma, let's just say it went down some really, really dark and
10:54disturbing paths regarding her psychic supernatural powers and her pregnancies.
11:12Xenomorph – Alien Isolation Alien Isolation's Xenomorph is downright
11:26iconic at this point.
11:28The way this version of the terrifying, menacing alien was created, with its highly intelligent
11:33AI, meant that playing through the game was an exercise in pure dreadful horror.
11:38The Xenomorph is the perfect hunter, always on the prowl, always ready to pounce, and
11:42rarely afraid of the outcome.
11:44As you slowly creep through the vast expanse of hallways, vents, and corridors of Sevastopol,
11:49the constant threat of the Xenomorph means you truly never feel safe, even when armed
11:54with something like a flamethrower.
11:55And when, not if, it catches you, its bloodthirsty, glistening visage will ensure you have nightmares
12:01for days on end.
12:09Twin Victim – Silent Hill 4 The Room Deep in the water prison in Silent Hill 4
12:24The Room, players will come across a creature walking on its massive hands, its baby-liked
12:28conjoined heads following your movements, and sinister sounds emitting from its mouths,
12:33especially once aggravated.
12:35This unfortunate creature is known as the Twin Victim.
12:39So who might these two Twin Victims actually be?
12:41Well, these twins, Billy and Miriam Locane, were murdered by Walter Sullivan, the central
12:46antagonist of The Room.
12:48On a side note, you do actually learn about this crime early on in Silent Hill 2.
12:52With symbolism being such an important aspect to Silent Hill's many monstrous aberrations,
12:57you might wonder why you then stumble across many different Twin Victims in Silent Hill
13:024.
13:03While there isn't a definitive answer to this question, the fact that they are reincarnated
13:07versions of murder twins is something that will haunt your psyche.
13:27Lara – The Evil Within Part woman, part spider, part eldritch-looking
13:38beast, Lara from The Evil Within is what nightmares are made of.
13:42Seriously, she's just that disturbing.
13:44Sebastian really has his work cut out for him each time he encounters Lara.
13:48Lara's story is deeply personal and deeply sad.
13:51This monstrosity is the manifestation of her demise.
13:55Lara was terribly injured from a barn fire that scarred her permanently and put her in
13:59a sort of comatose-slash-vegetative state before eventually succumbing, something that
14:04completely destroys the game's antagonist, Ruvik, hence his vengeance in the narrative.
14:10Lara's relentless pursuit of Sebastian during their encounters will get your palms sweating
14:14as you seek to put her out of her misery.
14:26Bloonies – Madison A demon, an evil entity, a ravenous pursuer
14:40of all that is good and special.
14:42Bloonies is a force to be reckoned with.
14:44Unfortunately for Luca, he finds himself face to face with this nefarious age-old demon,
14:50one that latched itself onto a children's book, able to be passed around between generations
14:54and families.
14:55So, why Bloonies?
14:57Why the name?
14:58It seems like an odd one, right?
14:59Well, the story goes that the demonic creature lost its eyes and now spends its days crawling
15:04about, bruising its knees searching for them or others with them to harness as his own
15:09with evil intentions.
15:11Once you see Bloonies in Madison, you unfortunately can't unsee him, it's now burned into
15:15your consciousness.
15:16So, yeah, have fun with that.
15:31Necromorphs – Dead Space Series
15:43Not quite aliens, not quite zombies, yet not quite human, Dead Space's Necromorphs are
15:48an unholy concoction that are a constant threat to Isaac Clarke aboard the USG Ishimura.
15:54While most of them can indeed be put down by cutting off their limbs, it doesn't make
15:58encountering them any less terrifying.
16:01Necromorphs generally have inhuman contorted movements, ferocious speeds, powerful attacks,
16:06and blood-curdling screams that will definitely set you on edge.
16:09It's the staggering variety of Necromorphs that also makes them so harrowing, since you
16:14never know what you're going to get as you explore the many derelict locales.
16:18Some will slice Isaac in two, some will pierce Isaac's body like a shish kebab, or shish
16:23ke-Isaac rather?
16:24Yeah, why not?
16:25And others will grapple and pin down when the opportunity arises.
16:28No two encounters with these creatures ever feels the same, so better make sure you have
16:32plenty of firepower.
16:45Virginia – The Forest It's quite difficult to actually describe
16:49the forest-terrifying aberration that is Virginia.
16:52I mean, you're seeing this on screen, right?
16:55This inhuman mutant sort of resembles an octopus, a scorpion, and a spider paired with a pale
17:00fleshy exterior, a completely blank face, and multiple tiny arms.
17:05Just looking at Virginia is a sanity-draining endeavor.
17:08Virginia seems to be a combination of multiple humanoid bodies mutated together to form this
17:13terrifying monstrosity.
17:15You will know you are in the presence of one of the Virginia creatures since you will hear
17:19its scuttling noises as it creeps ever closer to you.
17:31Lisa – P.T.
17:44It really is such a shame that Konami canned what would have become Hideo Kojima's Silent
17:49Hills.
17:50But alas, here we are.
17:51P.T., or Playable Teaser, featured one of the most hideous and terrifying specters in
17:55all of gaming, Lisa.
17:57This vengeful wraith is found in the haunted looping corridor of P.T.
18:01The way Lisa presents herself is so darn scary that you may not even be able to press forward
18:06in the game, or the demo rather.
18:08Whether she is standing in the hallway waiting, jumpscaring you through the bathroom door,
18:12or rending your flesh from your bones once she gets her unholy hands on you, one thing
18:16is certain, Lisa will haunt your nightmares and have you looking over your shoulder whenever
18:21you play a horror game.
18:35Regenerators – Resident Evil 4
18:46Any baddie in a Resident Evil game that you can't easily or quickly put down with firepower
18:50is terrifying, but for our money, the Regenerators rise above them all.
18:54The mere fact that, as their name of course implies, they can regenerate after taking
18:58damage is scary enough, but once you learn that you have to destroy specific parasites
19:03inside their body to fully put them down is another thing entirely.
19:07These experimental bioweapons created by the nefarious Los Illuminados have evil glowing
19:12eyes, skull-like faces, powerful limbs, and surprising speed.
19:16Oh yeah, and good luck if more than one tries to attack you at once.
19:33Wendigos – Until Dawn
19:46Until Dawn features plenty of terrifying moments, but none are as terrifying as actually encountering
19:51the Wendigos.
19:53These things are utterly unnerving, and just writing about them now is making my hair stand
19:57on end.
19:58The Wendigos are ravenous, flesh-eating, cannibalistic monsters that became the way they are due
20:03to spirit possession by the titular Wendigo spirit.
20:06Their grayed, decaying, bloody skin, their vicious, razor-sharp teeth, and their supernaturally
20:11fast movements make them the ultimate predator on Blackwood Mountain.
20:15Obviously, that's very unfortunate for our hapless group of friends who find themselves
20:19stuck there since the Wendigos would love nothing more than chowing down on some fresh
20:24meat.
20:26you want to survive their wrath.
20:42So do you agree with our terrifying picks for this list?
20:45What horror game creatures do you think are the scariest?
