00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today things are going to get spooky.
00:14Silent Hill hides its lore behind metaphors and in-game clues, but dedicated fans have
00:19managed to build the lore into an understandable text that fans have studied for hours on end.
00:25These are 10 Silent Hill Enemies With Disturbing Backstories.
00:30Let's do it.
00:31Before we continue, we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:35the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:39Lisa
00:40Admittedly, P.T. wasn't an official Silent Hill game, but it was a well-known teaser
00:52for Silent Hills, so we're going to include it.
00:54Lisa from P.T. is undeniably one of the most terrifying monsters in the Silent Hill franchise,
01:00primarily because there's just no freaking way to stop her.
01:04P.T. is a walking experience, forcing players to watch as Lisa haunts them to progress,
01:09rather than hit her with a massive piece of wood.
01:12Lisa is unusually tall and has an unsettling twitch to her head, and may I just say, ew.
01:18She wears a blood-soaked, filthy dress and her disgusting smile, paired with her brown
01:23stains around her mouth and gory eye socket, make her one of the creepiest people to ever
01:27exist.
01:28And I know a guy called Bobby the Butt Grabber.
01:31Let's look at her backstory.
01:32Lisa was murdered by her husband, who used a knife to kill her, he gouged out her right
01:37eye and stabbed her in the stomach while she was pregnant, causing the fetus to fall to
01:42the floor.
01:43It doesn't get much worse than that.
01:53Robbie the Rabbit
02:08Robbie the Rabbit has made an appearance in nearly every Silent Hill game, but his debut
02:12in Silent Hill 3 is particularly memorable for the unsettling impact it has on players.
02:17This is his backstory to many fans, as every appearance since reminds us of this unsettling
02:23installment.
02:24Robbie was introduced as the mascot for Lakeside Amusement Park, with oversized mascots of
02:28Robbie being found slumped in various locations throughout the park.
02:32The thing that makes Robbie so unsettling is the mystery of whether a dead body lies
02:36within these figures, and to this day, the mystery remains unanswered, leaving a lingering
02:41sense of dread that persists even when he appears as mere dull merchandise in other
02:46games.
02:53Grey Children
02:54The original Silent Hill is over 20 years old, yet its Grey Children remain terrifying.
03:06These are the first monsters players face when the town shifts into the other world,
03:10and being surrounded by a swarm of Grey Children is still one of the most chilling moments
03:14in the series, highlighting the need for a remake.
03:17I experienced this at my best friend Jack's birthday party.
03:20He got so scared he had to leave the room, and I single-handedly ruined his birthday.
03:25Worth it.
03:26The largely accepted interpretation suggests that the Grey Children represent Alessia Gillespie's
03:30twisted perception of her classmates, serving as haunting reminders of the torment and ridicule
03:35she endured, like when they scrawled go home and drop dead on her desk.
03:40This idea is reinforced by the childish laughter the Grey Children emit while attacking Harry.
03:45Their behaviour mimics that of real children as they cling to his legs, and even though
03:49they're children, I'd kick them so goddamn hard I'd break a toe.
03:53Victim Ghosts
03:55Silent Hill 4 The Room is an underrated instalment in the series.
03:59This entry strips away any sense of safety, as even Henry Townsend's home base apartment
04:04is frequently assaulted by Walter Sullivan's numerous victims.
04:07These terrifying, decaying foes cannot be defeated, and inflict headaches and psychic
04:11trauma on Henry just by proximity.
04:14At their most intense, they can even reach into him and grasp his heart.
04:18Admittedly, I've already spoiled their backstory, but enduring these creatures for the majority
04:22of the game, and finally learning that not only are they the victims of the previous
04:26tenant, but that you could very possibly become one yourself, is a feeling of dread unmatched
04:31in the series.
04:33Gumhead
04:34Gumheads are unsettling ape-like creatures from Silent Hill 4 The Room.
04:46They emit monkey-like sounds when attacking, often coming at players in packs, making them
04:50a formidable threat.
04:52Uniquely, they are among the few enemy types in Silent Hill that can wield weapons, lending
04:56them an eerie sense of sentience, a trait that mirrors their origin.
05:00The Gumheads symbolise Walter Sullivan's misanthropic perspective on society, reflecting
05:06his childhood fears of adults, and his general negative view of humanity.
05:10Their ability to wield weapons draw a connection to authority, and makes them a terrifying
05:14vision of what Walter Sullivan experienced before becoming a serial killer.
05:24The Nurses
05:25In Silent Hill, the Nurses typically embody the protagonist, or an affected side character's
05:39perception of the medical staff who cause them distress.
05:43For instance, in Silent Hill 1, these creatures are born from Alessa's memory of her time
05:47in the hospital, and the Nurses who tended to her, including Lisa Garland.
05:51While not directly part of the order, they acted as its puppets by keeping Alessa alive.
05:57Nothing is scarier in Silent Hill than the creatures that are born from horrible memories.
06:01Thank god nobody's had a negative experience with a dentist in Silent Hill.
06:04I don't want to see that.
06:09Asphyxia
06:10Alice in Wonderland might not seem like a source for horror, but Silent Hill skilfully
06:36uncovers its darker side.
06:38If they touch the Little Mermaid, we're all doomed.
06:40Asphyxia is a monster from Silent Hill Homecoming.
06:44In life, she was Nora Holloway, a child fascinated by the caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland,
06:49who was tragically sacrificed by being suffocated by her mother.
06:53In Silent Hill's twisted realm, Nora is transformed into a caterpillar-like creature with multiple
06:58writhing arms, and a tail composed of torsos.
07:01Instead of feet, she walks on her hands, symbolizing her death by choking.
07:05In the climactic boss fight, pulling apart the hands over her mouth forces Asphyxia to
07:10breathe, and this breath ironically leads to her demise, a reversal of her suffocation.
07:34Dark Heather
07:35The memory of Alessa from Silent Hill 3 would be a terrifying monster to face in reality.
07:40This dark counterpart to protagonist Heather Mason, who is a popular cosplay choice among
07:44fans, embodies the mind of Alessa, and if you don't know Alessa's backstory, strap
07:49in.
07:50Alessa was bullied relentlessly at school due to her supernatural abilities.
07:54We're going to skip over some of the horrible earlier childhood experiences to get to her
07:58at only 7 years old, where she burned alive in a house fire.
08:02Unfortunately for her, she survived, but only because her mother kept her alive with
08:06incantations.
08:07For 7 more years she suffered on the brink of death, while her mother caused extra torment
08:12in her catatonic state.
08:14Now imagine her spirit brought to life in front of you, terrifying.
08:20The Twin Victims
08:31The Twin Victims in Silent Hill 4 The Room are among the most unsettling monsters in
08:35the game.
08:36Tied to the tragic backstory of Billy and Miriam Locane, two children murdered by the
08:41antagonist Walter Sullivan.
08:43The Twins were part of Walter's 21 Sacraments ritual, in which he killed 21 individuals
08:48as part of a dark, sacrificial process to bring about his rebirth.
08:52Their deaths represent the 7th and 8th victims.
08:55In the twisted world of Silent Hill, they appear as large, conjoined figures with oversized
08:59child-like heads, carried by adult-sized bodies that walk on their hands.
09:04And in perfect Silent Hill fashion, they weren't just murdered, they were dismembered with
09:08an axe, in their parent's front yard.
09:11And they were children, Jesus, abstract daddy.
09:26There is no more unsettling character than Angela, and once you learn her backstory intertwined
09:31with the monster abstract daddy, her vibe starts to make sense.
09:35Abstract daddy is a monster that looks like two figures intertwined in an intimate posture.
09:40To be precise, they are in a reclining sexual position over a bed frame, trapped in this
09:45position by the flesh covering its body.
09:48Not the flesh on their bodies, I mean an extra layer of flesh, like the two bodies have been
09:52vacuum sealed in flesh.
09:55It is a manifestation of the experiences Angela sustained from the sexual abuse by not only
10:00her brother, but her father as well.
10:02Angela ended up dealing with this trauma by murdering her brother and father, causing
10:06them to manifest in Silent Hill as this monstrosity.
