00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the Top 10 Most Beloved
00:12Horror Games Ever Made.
00:13We're limiting our list to one game per franchise.
00:26Number 10 – Signalus Since its debut in 2022, many folks have sung
00:39nothing but high praise for Signalus, and for good reason.
00:42For some, it's the way the game feels like a modern take on classic survival horror games
00:47such as the original Resident Evil.
00:49For others, it's the unique atmosphere that feels very much like Alien or The Thing.
00:54But anyone who's played the game will tell you how every facet of the game, audio, visuals,
00:59and narrative will haunt you whenever you're not playing.
01:02Signalus boasts an incredibly dark and dismal futuristic world, and you'll want to play
01:07more to see every possible ending.
01:20Number 9 – Phasmophobia Much of the appeal of Phasmophobia stems
01:33from one aspect, and one aspect only.
01:35It's a ghost-hunting game you play with friends.
01:38Instant money printer of an idea.
01:40Yes, you and your friends visit various locations and must find clues to determine what kind
01:45of spectral demon you're up against.
01:47You'll get points for simply going in, identifying, and leaving.
01:51However, if you want a real challenge, you can always try capturing whatever spirit haunts
01:55the grounds.
01:56It's easier said than done, but you'll wind up laughing as you hear your buds get
02:00their mics cut out upon death.
02:02Is it any wonder how this game sold a ton of copies between PC and console?
02:14Number 8 – Dead by Daylight Whereas Phasmophobia has players going up
02:26against powerful ghosts, Dead by Daylight puts you and three other players against another
02:31player who is acting as a killer.
02:33Repair five out of eight generators to open the gates and escape the map before the killer
02:37can sacrifice you.
02:39With more than 40 killers with unique playstyles and a wealth of survivors with unique cosmetics,
02:44Dead by Daylight has become a force to be reckoned with as it has dominated the asymmetrical
02:49multiplayer space for the past decade.
02:51Even if some of the community acts like the game is dying all the time, Dead by Daylight
02:56still sees hundreds of thousands of players log in every day between console, PC, and
03:01mobile.
03:08Number 7 – Until Dawn Sony has tried its hand at horror games before
03:19with gems like Siren, although Until Dawn is often the first game that comes to mind
03:24when folks think scary PlayStation game.
03:27This truly was one of the most imaginative games we saw on the PS4 with its branching
03:32narrative, robust cast of characters, and unique premise.
03:35Plus, the inclusion of totems was an ingenious way to make players carefully consider their
03:40choices and try to keep everyone alive until the very end.
03:44Just one playthrough will show why folks have been clamoring for a sequel all these years
03:48later.
03:49Number 6 – Fear Though its time in the sun was short-lived,
04:04Fear is often remembered as one of the most unique titles that graced the Xbox 360 and
04:10PlayStation 3.
04:11In addition to featuring some pretty solid gunplay, Fear was almost constantly playing
04:16tricks on the player with visual and audible hallucinations.
04:19Before the game was over, we were second-guessing almost everything we were seeing.
04:24While the second game was just as good as the first, the third game is kinda the reason
04:28we haven't seen Fear since we came for the horror, not some Call of Duty clone.
04:33That delicate balance is why so many loved the original game.
04:45Number 5 – Dead Space If sci-fi horror is more your speed, Dead
04:57Space has forever been a must-play.
04:59Back when it first launched, Dead Space was quickly earning the reputation of the most
05:03intense and scariest horror game ever made.
05:06From the grotesque aesthetics to the brilliant UI design, everything about this game was
05:10creatively terrifying.
05:12If you feel the original hasn't aged all that well, we highly advise you play the 2023
05:17remake as it rebuilds the original with better visuals, performance, and new mechanics.
05:29Number 4 – Outlast Despite having fewer games than most horror
05:41franchises, Outlast has made quite the impression on folks, and its mark still lingers today.
05:46The original game was revered for its disturbing visuals and how a night lens for a camcorder
05:51was vital to your survival.
05:53Of course, the other part that made it memorable was the handful of psychotic patients that
05:57were skulking around the abandoned insane asylum.
06:00Even if you chickened out a quarter of the way through, no one ever forgets the experience
06:05with Outlast.
06:15Number 3 – Five Nights at Freddy's Roll your eyes all you want, but
06:28Five Nights at Freddy's has only increased in popularity over the years.
06:31The first game was such a breath of fresh air that was desperately needed in horror
06:36games.
06:37We were already subjected to seas of horror shooter games.
06:39What Five Nights at Freddy's brought was a haunted pizzeria with creepy animatronics
06:44roaming around the place, tapping into a childhood nightmare for many players old and young.
06:49Now we have a blockbuster franchise loaded with several sequel and spinoff games, a line
06:54of books and graphic novels, and now a possible multi-million dollar movie franchise.
07:09Number 2 – Silent Hill 2
07:21Silent Hill 2 isn't just one of the most frightening games ever made.
07:25We can go on for ages about the creatively morbid environments, but that isn't the
07:30reason why Silent Hill 2 gets so much praise.
07:33People cherish this game because of its clever writing and mystery.
07:36For those of you still playing the remake or needing to play it, we won't spoil anything
07:40here.
07:41However, one playthrough will show anyone why this is the one game in the franchise
07:46fans will forever champion.

08:13Number 1 – Resident Evil 4
08:22If you ask anyone what their favorite horror game is, chances are it's Resident Evil
08:274.
08:28Whether you want to go for the original or remake is up to you, but even the original
08:32will forever go down in history as one of the greatest games ever made.
08:36No, it isn't scary throughout, but it does jump between being terrifying and being funny
08:41in its own awkwardly corny ways.
08:43But to this day, people still relish in the combat, boss fights, set pieces, and extra
08:48game modes.
08:49There just hasn't been another horror game to get as much love as Resident Evil 4.
08:54And frankly, there may never be another game like it.
