08:17Good afternoon and welcome to the 2025 Canadian National Skating Championships for the Women's Free Program and Free Dance.
08:37This afternoon's program begins with the Skate Canada Hall of Fame induction ceremony,
09:01honoring athletes, coaches, builders, and officials who have left a lasting impact on Canadian figure skating.
09:13Please welcome Skate Canada President, Karen Butcher.
09:17Hello, today we are honoring and introducing two people who are very worthy of our Hall of Fame.
09:29One, a person who has had a phenomenal impact as an athlete and competitor,
09:35and the other, a person whose impact as a professional coach has shaped the success of many Canadian skaters.
09:43They are Joanie Rochette and Manon Perron.
09:47Let's start with Joanie.
09:55Joanie Rochette competed in women's basic figure skating,
10:00winning an impressive number of medals during her illustrious career as an artist.
10:08She is the first Canadian gold medalist at three national events,
10:13the novice, junior, and senior championships,
10:17having held the senior title for six consecutive years.
10:22Joanie also had international success,
10:27notably winning the bronze medal at the 2004 Grand Prix Finals,
10:33the silver medal at the 2009 ISU World Championships,
10:39the gold medal at the 2006, 2008, and 2009 International Canada Skating Championships,
10:47and the silver medal at the 2008 and 2009 Four Continents Championships.
10:54But it was her emotional performance that crowned her with a bronze medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics,
11:02which left its mark on the heart of a nation.
11:06This performance led her to be named Women's Skater of the Year by the Canadian press.
11:13Joanie remains actively involved in the artistic skating community,
11:18and has served as an ambassador for Canadian skating at several international and national events.
11:26After her retirement from competitive skating,
11:29she became a doctor after continuing her studies at the university.
11:39Manon has been an artistic skating coach for over 30 years
11:44and has produced, with enormous success, athletes worthy of podiums at all levels,
11:50from section championships to national, international, world championships,
11:56and even at the Winter Olympics.
11:59She is known for her dedication, her mentorship, and her leadership in everything she does.
12:06These qualities were attributed to her during the training of Joanie Rochette,
12:10who led her to the bronze medal at the Winter Olympics in 2010.
12:16Manon has played many out-of-the-box roles,
12:20which have been invaluable for the advancement of artistic skating in Canada and abroad.
12:27Among other things, she has acted as an advisor for NextGen programs
12:32and high-performance skating in Canada for many years.
12:38She has been a leader in the mentoring program of Canadian skating coaches
12:44and an active seminar host at national and international levels.
12:51Manon has received many awards throughout her career.
12:55She was the first laureate of the GEM's Reality of Dreams Award,
13:01awarded to elite coaches,
13:04three times winner of the Canada Skating Excellence Award to competition coaches.
13:10She earned the Jeff Gowen Award for all her achievements in 2018.
13:18Please pay attention to the video screen
13:22as we pay tribute to our athletes this afternoon.
13:35There comes a moment when my heart must stand alone
13:41On this lonely path I've chosen
13:45Like a house that's not a home
14:11When we arrived at the Vancouver Olympics,
14:14we had a very, very elaborate plan.
14:17Everything was included, all the days, the rest,
14:20the massages, the rest, the workouts.
14:24I know that if I managed to skate in Vancouver,
14:27it was thanks to my entire team,
14:30including Manon, who was not only my skating coach,
14:34but who was also my psychologist, my best friend, my second mother,
14:38who knew me so well.
14:42We had been working together for so long
14:45that we were able to get through this challenge together.
14:52I will always remember my first meeting with Manon Perron.
14:56She looked very nice, very sweet,
14:59but Manon is more of a general in the army.
15:02I remember that she told us that if we were one minute late on the ice,
15:06we were not allowed to have a workout,
15:09we were not allowed to board the ice rink.
15:12Manon was in a hurry, she had to do her hair,
15:15we had a dress code, she looked in our lunch boxes
15:18to make sure we had good food, that we were eating healthy,
15:21and for her, nothing was left to chance.
15:24When we arrived in a competition, how we held on to the ice,
15:27we had a lot of intervention.
15:30Manon's strength, I think,
15:33was to surround herself with good people,
15:36to be able to work according to the strengths and weaknesses of each one,
15:40and to make us the best skater possible.
15:43When I started teaching,
15:46I wanted all my athletes to go to the maximum of their potential,
15:51but above all, that they remain very good people.
15:54My mission was to make them love our sport,
15:59and to have a good work ethic.
16:02Joannie Rochette, she was barely 12 years old.
16:06I remember that the first time I trained her,
16:09I said to myself,
16:12this athlete will accomplish great things.
16:15She has an extraordinary potential.
16:20In 2006,
16:23the first Olympic Games of Joannie and I,
16:26Turin,
16:29a 5th place.
16:32At that time, we were expecting a top 10,
16:35but a 5th place,
16:38it was really more than we could have hoped for.
16:41In 2009,
16:44we went to China,
16:47in 2009,
16:50we went to the World Championships in Los Angeles,
16:53and a silver medal.
16:56It led us to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver,
16:59where the goal was definitely a medal.
17:17Her bronze medal
17:20was a great accomplishment,
17:23despite the sadness of the situation.
17:26Just to put you in context,
17:29Joannie's mother died
17:32two days before the competition began.
17:35Russian mountains of emotions.
17:38Thank God, Joannie was very well trained
17:41and very strong mentally.
17:44I also want to talk about Thérèse,
17:47because when you see Joannie,
17:50she was an extraordinary athlete.
17:53Thérèse was an extraordinary mother.
17:56She gave everything to Joannie,
17:59she was her pillar.
18:02I knew at the Olympics that when Joannie lost her mother,
18:05I had to be as strong as Thérèse was.
18:14I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:17I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:20I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:23I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:26I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:29I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:32I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:35I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:38I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:41I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:44I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:47I believe, I believe, I believe in you.
18:50I believe in you.
18:53I believe in you.
18:56Joannie, it's a great privilege for me today
18:59to be present and to be the witness
19:02of this enthronement at the Temple of the Renowned.
19:05Joannie, never forget what you left behind on your way.
19:08You lived a beautiful career,
19:11but what you left behind after this career
19:14goes beyond sporting values,
19:17but it really reaches the great human values.
19:20You have always been a role model for me.
19:23I tell you again, you are an example for Canadians.
19:26So welcome and take advantage of this recognition
19:29that is really due for your achievement.
19:32Wow, Manon, congratulations.
19:35I'm so happy for you.
19:38First of all, I want to thank you for how you showed me
19:41how to be a professional,
19:44your approach, your intensity, your passion.
19:47I learned so much from you
19:50just by watching you coach,
19:53listening to you, hearing your advice.
19:56You have always been an inspiration for us coaches
19:59and you have always had the gift
20:02to maximize and give confidence to your athletes.
20:05Congratulations, Manon.

22:25qui a commencé quand j'étais petite fille
24:42Tu m'as poussée à chaque instant.
24:45Je te commence.
24:48Je te commence.
25:06Je recommence.
25:09Je recommence.
25:14tu m'as appris à valoriser les études,
25:23Tu m'as appris à me relever après chaque chute,
25:52Manon, you made me the best skater I could possibly be.
26:02You believed in me, even when I doubted myself.
26:05You pushed me every day, not only on the ice,
26:07but also off of it.
26:09You taught me to value education
26:11and to prepare for life after sport.
26:13I'm now almost at the end of a 10-year journey in medicine
26:16and I know that so much of this journey carries pieces of you.
26:19You showed me how to get back up after every fall
26:22and how to turn impossible mountains into smaller hills
26:26that we climb one at a time.
26:28Manon, you didn't just make me an Olympian,
26:30you helped hundreds of skaters
26:32become the best athletes they could be
26:34and successfully transition into their second career.
26:37You built a skating school that became a place
26:39where dreams took flight.
26:42You've been a coach, a mentor, a role model.
26:44I love you and I'm forever grateful.
27:04I also want to express my admiration for the volunteers.
27:07Without your dedication, countless hours and passion,
27:10skating competitions simply wouldn't exist.
27:12Your behind-the-scenes work allows athletes like me
27:15to live our dreams and to achieve our goals.
27:17Thank you for everything you do year after year.
27:20Et enfin...
27:49vous accompagneront toute votre vie.
27:51Votre parcours ne sera pas toujours facile,
