Wednesday morning begins with overcast grey skies in most places, with drizzle also expected for northern England and southern Scotland. There will be some bright skies in northeastern England and northeastern Scotland at the start of the day though. In the afternoon the cloud will give way to sunshine in many places including Scotland, northern England and northeastern Wales. 00:00Good morning and welcome to your Wednesday weather update from the Met
00:03Office. Lots of low cloud to start the day, even some fog patches. Stronger winds
00:08though continue across the north and the west of the country with weather fronts
00:11just grazing the far northwest. At the same time high pressure remains routed
00:15across more southern areas and that means that low cloud is harder to shift
00:20through the day, although there will be some brighter breaks as we head through
00:23Wednesday and into Thursday. Winds pick up further into the early hours of
00:27Thursday morning across the far north of Scotland, yet again we could see some
00:31rain associated with these frontal systems. Elsewhere we're just chasing
00:34clouds and that's how we see this morning. There will be breaks in a cloud
00:37Aberdeenshire through the first part of the day, so the stronger wind across
00:41Western Scotland. Northern Ireland probably the best place to see the
00:44sunshine through this morning into this afternoon. A lot of thick clouds covering
00:48much of England and Wales and where the cloud is thick enough, yes you'll see
00:51some patchy rain and drizzle. Over the high ground poor visibility but even at
00:55lower levels there are some fog patches around first thing this morning. As we
01:00head through the day then, well not a lot of change. As I said high pressure
01:04remains in charge across England and Wales. The cloud could break or thin at
01:08times, favoured spots northeast England, the Welsh borders, even down towards the
01:12west country. Thicker cloud continues elsewhere. For Northern Ireland you'll
01:16see some sunny breaks through the morning into the afternoon extending
01:19across the central belt of Scotland towards eastern Scotland. Now towards
01:23the northwest, always more in the way of cloud here and also some outbreaks of
01:27rain. A stronger wind right the way through until evening time. Here though
01:31temperatures around 10, 11, 12 degrees Celsius. Elsewhere around 8 or 9 so
01:37around average for this time of year but feeling cool or cold under that cloud,
01:41that cloud which could persist into Wednesday evening across some parts.
01:46Elsewhere through this evening and overnight initially we will see some
01:50clearer skies. They could actually persist across North Wales, Northern
01:54England, even some parts of central southern areas of Scotland. So pockets of
01:59frost can't be ruled out as we head into Thursday morning. Elsewhere yes always
02:03more clouds across the north and the west of Scotland as we enter the day on
02:07Thursday and some patchy rain just comes and goes. Elsewhere yes some fog patches
02:11to start the day. A chilly start across Wales, Northern England, always more
02:16clouds down towards central and eastern areas of England. Some brighter breaks
02:20possible through the morning into the afternoon though and temperatures around
02:235 where you see that cloud persisting probably 8 or 9, 10 towards the
02:28northwest. Friday morning looks like this. Not a lot of change through the
02:32afternoon and temperatures struggling especially across England and Wales.
02:35Towards the north and the west we could see temperatures up to around 10
02:39degrees Celsius. Most places just about dry. See you later.
