00:09Sugarcane farmers die of drought and disease

00:13when they are infected with what I call red rot disease.

00:17So, to help our sugarcane farmers,

00:20Grade 11 students built a prototype rover

00:23for early detection

00:25using artificial intelligence.

00:27Come on, let's change the game!

00:38Almost 400,000 hectares are planted by sugarcane

00:43or tubo in the country.

00:45That industry

00:47is worth Php 38.2 billion

00:49from 2018 to 2020.

00:52But what if the crops will remain healthy?

00:56🎵

00:58Red rot disease is one of those diseases.

01:01It's a type of fungus that causes drought

01:04and the death of sugarcane crops.

01:07To prevent the spread of diseases in the crops,

01:11Grade 11 students built a prototype

01:14called RAIN, SOFIA, ONE, and REV

01:17of Quezon City Science High School.

01:19That's RAJO,

01:21an AI-powered rover

01:23for early detection of red rot disease.

01:26So, we decided agriculture

01:29since it's one of the three highest-earning sectors of our economy.

01:33We also found out that sugarcane actually produces

01:37a lot for our economy.

01:39The group used a remote-controlled RC car chassis

01:43as a base.

01:45They installed a camera to see the surroundings

01:48and programmed artificial intelligence

01:51to recognize red rot in sugarcane.

01:55They also installed solar panels

01:57to maximize the sunlight in the crops.

02:08We're now ready to install the RAJO.

02:11As you can see, it has a camera up here.

02:14It detects red rot in sugarcane.

02:18The remote control will control the RAJO.

02:23If it detects something,

02:25it will automatically send a message to the farmers

02:29to notify them that something is affected.

02:32The group also conducted field research

02:35in a sugarcane farm in Florida, Pampanga.

02:38It took us 1,600 individual images.

02:42We have results of having near 90% accuracy.

02:48Their project was worth the effort.

02:51They became finalists in the NCR National Science and Technology Fair last November.

02:56This is how extensive the children's research studies are.

03:01And because of that, it paid off their sacrifices that they made.

03:09that has a lot of potential to help the sugarcane farmers of the country.
