00:00Police remain on scene here at a park in Windham Vale in Melbourne's West after a 24-year-old
00:07man was stabbed to death overnight.
00:10Police say a group of seven men were here at this park on Haynes Drive, socialising
00:14and drinking together at about 11.30 last night, when a convoy of four cars pulled up
00:20and another group of about 12 men jumped out and instantly began attacking them.
00:25Police say some of them were armed with edged weapons, possibly even machetes, and that
00:29attack left a 24-year-old man from Windham Vale dead.
00:32Two other men, both aged 27, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
00:37Police describe this attack as a ferocious, targeted attack that occurred in a matter
00:42of just minutes.
00:43There's no doubt whoever was ruling the blows has had some clear intent to cause serious
00:51damage and probably killing.
00:53We have no motive at this stage, but certainly it was ferocious, and the injuries to the
01:01deceased show that.
01:03This morning, police and SES members combed the park and neighbouring area, searching
01:08for evidence, while mounted police patrolled local streets in a bid to reassure worried
01:12residents.
01:14Police have arrested four people who are currently being questioned.
