00:00Dumaguete City, a rather sleepy town, economically despite its vast potential given its formidable

00:06human resource, is all primed for a surge in the information technology business, processing,

00:12and management sector as a recent DICT official observed.

00:16Philippine Information Agency Negros Oriental correspondent Roy Lomotan tells us why.

00:23Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental has the potential to become a center for excellence

00:28for information technology and business process management industry.

00:33Department of Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary for ICT Development

00:39Attorney Giselle Batapasigue made this observation during her recent visit to Dumaguete City

00:45for the Regional ICT Summit and Exhibitions of DICT VII.

00:50She said now is the time to boost the ITBPM industry in Negros Oriental to generate more

00:56jobs for people in rural areas.

00:58This is just my own personal prediction.

01:04It will be subject to industry and scientific processes.

01:10But I see Dumaguete and Negros Oriental advancing from a next wave city to a higher level classification

01:19in the ITBPM industry.

01:21Because you have what it takes to be high in this classification.

01:28Sige noted that Metro Clark, Metro Manila, Cebu, Iloilo, and Bacolod City are currently

01:34designated by DICT as centers for excellence for ITBPM.

01:39However, Negros Oriental still needs to strengthen its ICT ecosystem and broaden its scope to

01:46entice more investors to put up companies in the province.

01:51The ICT ecosystem is composed of local government units, active ICT councils, industry experts,

01:58and the academe.

01:59My unsolicited suggestion to the province is really to focus on creating a talent development

02:08center for the whole province where the provincial government can invest and as well as national

02:18policy makers is to invest in the Filipino development, the human talent.
