Japan’s Emperor wishes world peace at New Year’s public greeting
Japan's Emperor Naruhito on Thursday, January 2, gave a New Year's address in front of the public to wish the people of the country and the whole world a peaceful year.
"Although there may be many difficult times ahead, I hope that this year will be a peaceful and prosperous one for all of you. As the new year begins, I pray for the happiness of the people of our country and the whole world," Naruhito told the crowd at the imperial palace in Tokyo.
Naruhito, 64, was joined by other imperial family members including his wife, Empress Masako, 61, and the former emperor Akihito and the former empress Michiko who abdicated in 2019.
