'This is the biggest Japanese outdoor food event in the world' – organizer
The streets of New York were alive with the flavors of Japan on Saturday, August 24, as thousands from across the country gathered for "JAPAN Fes" — an outdoor food festival celebrating Japanese cuisine.
From matcha — a powdered green tea — to shaved ice, and even octopus crackers, the festival, described by organizer Misako Shoji as "the world's largest Japanese outdoor food event," attracted a plethora of food enthusiasts.
The festival season will conclude with its final event on November 9 in Manhattan's East Village.

00:00This is the biggest Japanese outdoor food event in the world.
00:27And we have more than 50,000 people per year.
00:36My boyfriend and I are planning to go to Tokyo in the soon future.
00:42And I love food, we both do.
00:44So we really wanted to get a little taste, I guess, before we go.
00:49So this was the main reason we were coming up here.
00:52I definitely think, probably because they think it's healthier than the United States
00:56food.
00:58And I would 100% agree with that, only because the amount of stuff that they put in our food
01:02and everything else.
01:03So it's kind of neat to be here watching them make the food in front of us, and we know
01:06what's in it.
01:11I thought this is the best or the largest festival in New York.
01:19And a lot of people know about this festival.
01:21So I thought that was like a best way to advertise.
01:39How is it?
01:40It's good.
01:51I don't know, it's so good.
