Japan's humble 'onigiri' rice balls gain popularity

Onigiri rice balls, traditionally seen as a simple snack in Japan, are gaining popularity both domestically and internationally. This rise in popularity is fueled by enticing social media images, a growing demand for affordable meals, and increased tourism to Japan. At shops like Onigiri Bongo in Tokyo, the once quiet hours between lunch and dinner now see continuous queues of eager customers, some waiting up to eight hours, drawn by the variety of fillings like pickled plum or bacon with soy sauce.
