00:00Five children were killed after a fire broke out in Tondo, Manila.

00:05This is Denisse Osorio for Detail.

00:10Aside from the sound of the fire,

00:12there is only one thing that can be heard from the chaos in this CCTV footage.

00:19One night before the new year,

00:21a fire cut the lives of five children in Malvar Street, Tondo, Manila.

00:26In the third trap, five children aged 8 to 15 years old were trapped

00:32because of the grills that were locked.

00:34According to a barangay resident,

00:36it was easy for the children's grandfather to force his way inside the house

00:41so that the fire could burn them,

00:43but it was impossible to climb up because of the fire.

00:46The neighbors immediately called for help.

00:49The firemen also arrived five minutes later,

00:52but the tanks had no water, so there was no fire extinguisher.

00:56The firemen also had to destroy the metro to get water from the line.

01:01The water tanks were placed so that the water could be pumped up

01:05because it was impossible to fill the tanks with water.

01:08According to the barangay residents,

01:10the children's parents were at work

01:14and they were hoping that they would have a new year here in Manila

01:18because they were not able to visit during the new year.

01:20We heard that the two children came from Cavite.

01:26I think they came here for the new year, that's why they brought them here.

01:30The barangay resident also added that

01:32not only one family lived in the three-story building.

01:35The fire was really fierce.

01:38They said there were nine families,

01:41and the other one was just one family.

01:44According to a source,

01:46the children's bodies were almost lying on the sides of the grills.

01:51According to the BFP,

01:53they were not able to enter the house because of the fire.

01:57It was also difficult to enter the house

02:00because the third and second floors of the house were burned down.

02:04One of the children they took was at the door of the terrace

02:08and the other four were at the terrace itself,

02:10at the grills,

02:11where the firemen had to climb from the outside to destroy the lock.

02:17At 11.25 p.m., the fire was declared as a fire-out.

02:21The fire was still under investigation.
