James Copley reviews Sunderland's late defeat to Stoke City
Transcript
00:00Hello, a very disappointed James Copley here from the Bet365 Stadium. Sunderland have just
00:05conceded a really, really late goal to Stoke City and Tom Cannon who got the winner in
00:12the 92nd minute. Sunderland probably should have had a penalty in the first half after
00:17Berger's foul on Chris Mettmann in the box. Somehow the linesmen and the referee didn't
00:21see it. It was a clear, clear shirt pull but Stoke City had chances in the first half.
00:25Anthony Patterson made a couple of really good saves. Victor Johansson too in the opposite
00:29net I think proved why he's one of the Championship's best keepers with a couple of fantastic stops.
00:36Sunderland hit the post a couple of times in the game. Adil Al-Shish looked really bright.
00:39He put the ball in in the second half for Eliza Mayenda who with the goal gaping headed
00:44wide when it was probably easier to score. That's two big chances missed in a couple
00:49of games now. But the goal, Stoke City's goal comes from a mistake by Luke O'Neill and then
00:54Chris Mettmann fails to deal with it. Tom Cannon then buries the ball. I thought a point
00:58would have been a fair result on the day. Perhaps Sunderland just edged it but Sunderland
01:02will feel very, very unlucky. I thought Adil Al-Shish was probably Sunderland's standout
01:06performer today alongside Anthony Patterson but Sunderland lose at the Bet365 Stadium.
01:13Ryan Shaw crosses his first game in charge as interim manager. It's a real disappointing
01:17one. A tough one to swallow for Sunderland fans, for Sunderland staff and the manager
01:22Regis Lebrun. We'll have full analysis over at the Sunderland Echo website and we'll also
01:26have an On The Whistle video tomorrow or Monday morning for you. Thanks for watching
01:31and I'm a very, very disappointed James Copley from the Bet365 Stadium.
