00:00Hello there and very Merry Christmas from all of us here at the Metaphys.
00:04Hopes of a white Christmas certainly have been dashed this year with mild
00:08conditions for most of us. In fact we have provisionally seen the mildest start
00:12to Christmas Day on record for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Temperatures here
00:16over the last 24 hours have not dropped much below 11 or 12 degrees Celsius in
00:21places so very mild indeed. Although mild it is coming with quite a lot of cloud.
00:27The earliest satellite image showing quite a lot of grey skies around. A few
00:31breaks in there to watch out for throughout the day particularly for
00:33parts of the Midlands through Yorkshire and Northumberland, eastern areas of
00:36Scotland. Also perhaps seeing some sunny spells around at times. For northwest of
00:40Scotland though we have this rain band in place providing wetter conditions and
00:44also some gales around coastal areas. Temperatures though on the thermometer
00:48certainly well above average for the time of year. 11 to 12 degrees Celsius
00:53perhaps locally 13 in there as well. Might not need those Christmas jumpers
00:57if you are stepping outside though I'm sure it will still bring the festive
01:01spirit. As we head into the evening and overnight this band of rain in the far
01:05northwest is slowly going to slip its way a little bit further southwards. So
01:09that rain spreading into more mainland areas of Scotland and also fringing into
01:13Northern Ireland as we move towards dawn on Boxing Day as well. Generally England
01:17and Wales staying dry. A few fog patches are possible but with the cloud
01:21around it's certainly not going to be too chilly of a night for most of us
01:24around 6 to 9 degrees Celsius. Boxing Day itself for England and Wales is pretty
01:30much a rinse and repeat scenario. So we are going to see quite a lot of cloud
01:35around again areas to the east of higher ground. Going to see the best chance of
01:38some breaks in there and some sunny spells. For Scotland and Northern Ireland
01:42we still have this rain band in place so again a little bit of a damper day to
01:46come here. Areas to the south of that rain band once again 10 or 11 degrees
01:51Celsius a mild day. But further towards the northwest we're starting to see some
01:55slightly cooler conditions move their way in 7, 8 degrees Celsius for the
01:59Western Isles and up into the Northern Isles also. And we're going to be
02:02watching this rain band over the forthcoming days because it's going to
02:05act as that boundary line between the milder and the cooler conditions. On
02:10Friday at least it does look like the mild conditions will remain in place for
02:14most of us but into the weekend it is possible that we'll start to see that
02:17front slowly slipping its way south eastwards and that will allow those
02:20cooler fresh conditions to start arriving in for many of us. But we'll
02:24have plenty more updates on all of that and of course as we head towards New
02:28Year on our YouTube channel so make sure you're subscribed and we'll see you
02:32again here later on. Have a lovely Christmas!
