00:00Former Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim has called on the government to adopt a more open approach
00:07to addressing racial divisions, asserting that traditional methods are not working.
00:12In a post on X, Zaid said, currently, the government only urges the Raqqa to stop talking
00:18about racial issues or the police will come calling.
00:22He said the way to lessen racial discord is to allow for openness, dialogue, and a more
00:27tolerant environment from the government as opposed to oppressive methods which have
00:31been used all these years.
00:34The former Kota Bharu MP said that encouraging greater engagement and discussion among Malaysians
00:39could potentially resolve half a century of problems that have been allowed to fester.
00:45Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that major celebrations such as Christmas
00:50were a cornerstone of strength and unity among Malaysians.
00:54He said any attempt to sow seeds of discord or incite racial conflict must be avoided.
