Some Glasgow residents will experience a six week wait for their general waste bins to be collected during the Christmas holidays.
Kerbside green wheelie bins scheduled for collection on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and 2 January will be missed and not picked up again until mid to late January.
Collection of blue and grey bins have been brought forward and will be picked up in the days earlier.
Labour has called this “unacceptable” in a letter to Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken, saying the impact of this decision will be felt by everyone.
Green councillors have also said the move will impact communities deeply with rubbish piled on streets.
The council defended its decision, saying they are using their resources to focus on flat blocks and tenements which usually see a bigger build up of waste during the festive period.
They said any excess waste for residents will be collected on their next collection date and that public waste centres will have extended opening hours to help manage build up.
