00:36Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisual Studios in Havana,
00:45Cuba.
00:46Let's begin with the news.
01:04Israeli occupation forces killed at least 32 civilians in the Gaza Strip after committing
01:09four new massacres against Palestinian families in the last 24 hours.
01:13Some authorities report that the Israeli attacks also left about 54 wounded.
01:17They also warn that both figures could increase since several of the victims are trapped under
01:22rubble and others are scattered on the roads of the bombed areas.
01:27In this context, authorities denounce that the Zionist regime continues to prevent the
01:31entry of emergency services to these areas.
01:34Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed at least 45,259 Palestinians, mostly women and
01:42children.
01:47In the Gaza Strip, the tourism sector has suffered heavy losses since the start of the
01:50Israeli aggression against the enclave on October 7, 2023.
01:54The Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities denounced that all tourism facilities, as
02:00well as stores in the coastal enclave, had to close due to severe structural damage caused
02:04by persistent Israeli bombardment.
02:07According to the ministry, 264 of the territory's 314 archaeological sites have been totally
02:13or partially destroyed, as well as 4,992 tourist, recreational and arts facilities.
02:20The ministry notes the conflict has left 15,265 tourism workers unemployed and that it has
02:26caused great economic losses to the Palestinian nation.
02:34In the United States, people took to the streets in rejection of the continuation of
02:37Israel's genocidal war against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
02:42Demonstrators gathered near the BCS shopping centers in New York City, taking advantage
02:47of the influx of people due to the Christmas season, to draw attention and to raise awareness
02:52on the current crisis in the Gaza Strip due to the Israeli war.
02:56Demonstrators raised banners in favor of the Palestinian cause, demanding an end to the
03:00Israeli genocide, which already accounts for 45,000 civilian deaths, and denouncing
03:05U.S. military support for the Tel Aviv regime.
03:12The Iranian government condemned the assassination of one of its diplomats by a terrorist group
03:16in the city of Damascus in Syria.
03:19Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said the attack occurred this past Saturday
03:23when armed groups opened fire on the vehicle of Ambassador Saeed Davud Beitaraf.
03:28Iran has demanded the new Syrian administration to shoulder its responsibility to investigate
03:33and punish those responsible for this terrorist act.
03:36Iran's foreign ministry spokesman further stressed that security of personnel in diplomatic
03:40facilities is crucial for the restoration of the mission in Damascus.
03:50In other news, in Nigeria, over 30 people were killed from a human stampede during two
03:55Christmas charity events.
03:56Authorities said the first such incident took place in the city of Okija in the southern
04:01Anambra state, where at least 26 people were reported dead, including four children.
04:06The second incident took place in the city of Abuja, capital of Nigeria, where another
04:1110 people died.
04:12Such incidents are frequent in Nigeria due to lack of security deployed for mass events,
04:17so people are urging authorities to implement adequate security measures for such events.

04:46Welcome back.
04:47In the United States, the transition team for President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed
04:51that on Inauguration Day, the U.S. will withdraw from the World Health Organization.
04:56According to experts, the United States is the largest donor to this United Nations agency,
05:00contributing 16% of its funding for 2022-2023.
05:04Therefore, should this happen, it would seriously damage the agency's capacity to respond to
05:08health emergencies in the world.
05:11Specialists also warned that the organization would have to downsize its scientific staff
05:15substantially, which would negatively impact its work.
05:19During his previous term, President Trump initiated the withdrawal of the United States
05:23from the World Health Organization in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing
05:28the agency of being controlled by China, actions that were reversed by President Joe Biden
05:32the following year.
05:39The Mexican government announced the construction of 25 migrant shelters on the United States' border.
05:45The Interior Ministry said that the objective of the shelters is to address humanitarian
05:49challenges and provide assistance to migrants.
05:52Each of the centers is equipped to guarantee good conditions for at least 2,500 people.
05:57Additionally, the agency highlighted that the Mexican government is working jointly
06:01to address the migratory issue from a humanitarian law perspective.
06:05The Peruvian municipality in northeastern Peru reported that the Las Capullanas beach
06:17has been affected by an oil spill that negatively impacts the biodiversity of the area.
06:23Residents reported that several species, including crabs and octopuses, are covered with oil
06:28and called on the company responsible to take immediate action to contain the pollution.
06:32In this respect, Mayor Ricardo Van Cayenne recalled that nature is the greatest wealth
06:38of the area and that this type of act cannot go unpunished.
06:42Van Cayenne also expressed his solidarity with fishermen and families that depend on
06:46these waters.
06:47The Environmental Evaluation and Control Agency is monitoring the area.
07:02In Bolivia, at least 14 people have died due to rains affecting over 200 communities.
07:14According to Civil Defense Vice Minister Juan Carlos Calvimontes, overflowing rivers affected
07:19more than 40 municipalities.
07:21He also said that the heavy rains have caused landslides and flash flooding, affecting many
07:26families.
07:28Meanwhile, the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service has issued an urgent
07:32alert in at least eight departments for possible thunderstorms and overflowing rivers.
07:42In Chile, the National Disaster Prevention and Response System has issued an alert for
07:48the Los Alamos commune due to wildfires that have already burned through close to 300 hectares.
07:54Prevention system officials said that the fires represent a threat for the populations
07:58living in the surroundings of the affected areas.
08:02They also warned that, according to an inquiry, the fire is believed to have been arson.
08:07Regional Disaster Prevention System authorities also issued an alert for the Valparaíso region
08:12due to various active wildfires.
08:19And in Indonesia, more than 300 people were evacuated in at least three districts of Bakasar
08:24due to flooding from heavy rains.
08:26The operations command center said water levels reached 80 centimeters due to persistent rains.
08:32In view of the situation, authorities set up disaster response centers in two sub-districts
08:37to assist the victims and to monitor the situation.
08:41Weather authorities call on the public to remain alert to the situation and take precautions
08:46as the rains are expected to continue.

09:24Welcome back.
09:26The advances on the frontline of the Russian Armed Forces do not stop the course of the
09:29Russian Army in this special military operation is imminent and obvious, but above all, unstoppable.
09:38In recent weeks, and at a faster pace this year, Russian Armed Forces have advanced along
09:44the entire frontline, seizing control of settlements and towns with little resistance from the
09:49Ukrainian Army.
09:50Kiev is taking steps to increase the size of its army, including the forced mobilization
09:55of citizens and lowering the age of military service in an effort to respond to the Russian
10:00advance, all with no result other than loss of life.
10:10Today I posted a video on my Telegram channel where relatives complain that 75% of the military
10:16personnel are missing.
10:17There are people whose bodies for some reason have not been presented, but also officially
10:22there is talk of dead, and there are many.
10:24There are also many wounded who are left without legs and arms, and there are minor injuries.
10:29But 75% missing, this is huge losses.
10:36The West is pressuring Kiev to fight to the last Ukrainian.
10:41But despite substantial financial support, Ukrainian troops with foreign military have
10:45suffered heavy losses, estimated at around 1 million dead and wounded Ukrainians and
10:51mercenaries, as well as a significant amount of military hardware.
11:00Despite the enormous help from the West, the initiative on the line of contact is in our
11:04hands and the Russian troops are conducting an offensive along the entire front.
11:10This year more than 190 villages have been liberated and about 4.5 thousand square kilometers
11:17of territory have been brought under control.
11:25Even the Western media, which tends to question Russian reports, have acknowledged the advance
11:30of Russian troops in the region and can no longer disguise the disastrous situation on
11:34the Ukrainian front.
11:41Our commander gave us the order to round up all Ukrainian-speaking civilians and not to
11:46touch them, to let them go.
11:48But we were to shoot those who spoke Russian.
11:51This was his specific order.
11:54It was the order, and there were no other options.
11:57Only this way.
11:59No, they would shoot us, but the treatment is terribly cruel.
12:02We were beaten with sticks even for holding the machine gun wrong, or if you refuse to
12:07kill someone.
12:14As Russian troops advance, Ukrainian troops retreat, leaving destruction and death in
12:19their wake.
12:20More and more cases of massacres and brutalities committed against civilians are uncovered.
12:25Kiev is using only terrorist methods, which once again justifies and explains the need
12:30for Russia's special military operation against this regime that does not represent the Ukrainian
12:36people.
12:37The Russian government says Ukraine's attack on the city of Kazan will be met with proper
12:46retaliation.
12:47During a ceremony to inaugurate airport facilities, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message
12:52to Ukrainian authorities saying that the attack perpetrated by the forces of the Kiev regime
12:56against Russian territory would not go unanswered.
12:59Putin said his government will continue to own repairing damage caused by the attacks,
13:05as well as on the construction of roads and housing to ensure the well-being of the Russian
13:09people.
13:10Putin said that whomever tries to destroy anything within Russian territory will be
13:14faced with much greater destruction which will make them regret even more what they
13:18are trying to do against Russia.
13:25Whomever wants to, and however much they may try to destroy in Russia, they will be met
13:29with far greater destruction and they will further regret what they are trying to do.
13:35On Sunday, Russia's air defense systems shot down 42 Ukrainian drones southwest of the
13:39country.
13:40According to a statement issued by the Russian Defense Ministry, some 20 drones were shot
13:44down in the Oryol region, 8 in the Rostov-on-Don region, 5 in Kursk, 1 in Kuban, and as many
13:51in the Bryansk region.
13:53The Russian Defense Ministry described these fixed-wing drone attacks by Ukraine as terrorist
13:57actions.
13:58The Russian Defense Ministry said that the Special Metro-Operation Ukraine, launched
14:01in February 2022, continues with the same goal of protecting the population from genocide
14:06by the Kiev regime.
14:12And on Sunday, tens of thousands protested in Serbia's capital Belgrade to demand that
14:17leaders take responsibility for the collapse of a train station roof that killed 15 people
14:21last month.
14:22For over seven weeks, the Serbian government has been under pressure from nationwide demonstrations
14:27following the death in the northern city of Novi Sad, with many protesters accusing
14:31authorities of corruption and inadequate oversight.
14:34Sunday's protest started with 15 minutes of silence, a tribute to the 15 victims in
14:39the incident.
14:40The demonstration occupied Slavija Square, a key roundabout, snarling traffic in the
14:44city center.
14:45According to the Ministry of Interior's statement, up to 29,000 people attended the
14:50protest.
14:51I would like to say that we are here to pay tribute to the victims of Novi Sad, and I'm
15:00here because enough is enough.
15:02We've all taken to the streets, because what's going on in this country really doesn't make
15:06sense anymore.
15:07I was a student until recently, and I work across the street, so I've come to support
15:12the students, the teachers, the actors, and all the citizens of Serbia.
15:20At this moment, supporting these young people is the most important thing so that we older
15:24people can learn from their example and do all we can to make them feel that someone
15:29is with them, and to bring back normality and a sense of shame to this country.
15:35Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kovacic has warned that the incumbent president would
15:39be violating the law if he were to call for a new election.
15:43Georgian Premier said that such a conduct would put all those who share government responsibilities
15:47with her at risk, so he expressed his confidence that President Salome Surabishvili would show
15:53common sense in her decision, so he expects her to respect the results of the last parliamentary
15:57and presidential elections.
15:59Kovacic also described the demand for new elections as absurd.
16:09And in Turkey, at least four people lost their lives after an ambulance helicopter crashed
16:13into a hospital in the southwest.
16:15Local media reported that the accident occurred after the aircraft took off in dense fog next
16:19to the training and research hospital in the city of Mugla.
16:22The four people killed were on board the helicopter, two of whom were health workers.
16:26Authorities added that no one was injured in or around the building.
16:31We now have come to the end of this news brief.
