00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and sadly, not all games will be preserved for future generations
00:12to experience.
00:13Whether because of servers being shut down or the game being delisted, these PlayStation
00:18games have all been lost to time.
00:41The only game on our list which didn't technically receive a full release, Paragon is yet another
00:46victim of the Epic Games' Fortnite mega-machine.
00:50Attempting to adapt a MOBA to the first-person shooter genre, players were given numerous
00:55heroes with various special abilities to assault the opposing team's defenses and destroy their
01:00base and its core.
01:02Despite big ambitions for the game, including eSports and introducing innovative mechanics
01:07to the genre, the game struggled to maintain a player base, and with the success of Fortnite,
01:12Epic Games ultimately decided to pull the plug in 2018, killing the game before it ever
01:18received a full release beyond the ongoing open beta.
01:21It's not all doom and gloom, however, as shortly after the shutdown, Epic released all of Paragon's
01:27assets for Unreal Engine developers to access for free on the Unreal Marketplace.
01:37The Legend of Korra
01:51Licensing issues have become one of the most detrimental roadblocks of game preservation
01:55due to publishers allowing their licenses to expire rather than pay to keep them.
02:00While The Legend of Korra was certainly higher quality than most other Airbender tie-ins,
02:05with solid combat mechanics and a good use of the various Airbender abilities, the game
02:09failed to amount to anything beyond a better-than-expected release in the licensed game genre.
02:15Developed by Platinum Games during their licensed game phase, The Legend of Korra did little
02:20to capitalize on the studio's talents and instead felt like a quick cash grab to keep
02:24the lights on.
02:26Alongside Transformers Devastation, which released the following year, The Legend of
02:29Korra was delisted with no warning and because, unlike Transformers, The Legend of Korra didn't
02:36receive a physical release, it was lost to the ethos and is now completely unplayable.
02:47Evolved
02:55Asymmetric multiplayer games might be a common genre these days, but back in 2015, this style
03:01of gameplay was still finding its footing.
03:04Leading the charge was Turtle Rock Studios, the developers of the much-beloved Left 4
03:09Dead series.
03:10Pitting four player-controlled hunters against another player-controlled beast, Evolved was
03:15an immediate hit at preview events and looked to be on track for a massive player base on
03:20release.
03:21However, it would seem the game previewed better in short bursts rather than lengthy
03:25game sessions, as the gameplay loop quickly became stale thanks to uneven map designs
03:30and rampant player exploitation of the game's systems.
03:34The overabundance of expensive DLC packs, many that kept new monsters behind paywalls,
03:40turned off the game's dwindling audience and even a switch to a free-to-play model
03:44did little to boost player interest before the game was ultimately taken offline in 2018.
04:01Battleborn
04:02Gearbox's Battleborn is a victim of poor timing more than anything.
04:14Releasing only a couple weeks before the wildly-anticipated Overwatch from Blizzard, Battleborn's audience
04:19jumped ship almost immediately, leaving servers a barren wasteland for the few remaining players.
04:26Battleborn was touted as Gearbox's most ambitious title to date, but despite a wealth of interesting
04:31characters and designs and a myriad of different game modes, the hero shooter continued to
04:36limp on in Overwatch's shadow, with numerous updates to the game, pricing and DLCs to entice
04:42players back but to no avail.
04:44Even a change to a free trial mode, essentially free-to-play in all but name, failed to drum
04:49up any interest.
04:51Finally admitting defeat, Gearbox pulled the game from sale in 2019 and permanently shut
04:56down the game's servers in 2021.
05:03Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma
05:06It's rare for a title to be received so poorly that the publisher completely delists
05:19the game and tries to pretend it never existed, but Afro Samurai 2 really was just that bad.
05:26The first of a planned trilogy, Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma was lambasted by outlets
05:32and players for its technical performance, or lack thereof, horrendous combat and voice
05:37acting and meaningless upgrades, all packed together in a graciously short but torturous
05:43experience.
05:44The script was also a major point of contention, as it needlessly inserted modern day references,
05:50offensive dialogue, and overall was just an incoherent mess.
05:55While the original release back in 2009 was a moderate success, the sequel was so bad
06:01it retroactively tainted any goodwill the series might have had.
06:15Babylon's Fall
06:21In their unwavering pursuit of a lucrative live-service venture, and despite the colossal
06:26failure of the Avengers, Square Enix recruited renowned action developer Platinum Games to
06:32develop Babylon's Fall.
06:34A cooperative multiplayer hack and slasher, players would team up to battle their way
06:38up a tower, collecting more powerful loot on each run.
06:42And somehow, despite this uninspired and boring design, Babylon's Fall never found an audience,
06:47and was not only a commercial failure of epic proportions, but also was widely derided as
06:53nothing more than a lazy live-service attempt by a once-respected publisher.
06:59Babylon's Fall fell off the charts almost immediately upon release, and left such an
07:04insignificant impact we wouldn't be surprised if you forgot it even existed until this entry.
07:09Only a year after release, servers were shut down, and nothing of value was lost.
07:20The Mag
07:29Sometimes a game is just ahead of its time, and sadly, that was the fate of the massive
07:34multiplayer shooter that advertised the possibility of 256 players in one match simultaneously.
07:41The aim of the game was to simulate a real battlefield scenario, with squads of players
07:46divided into different platoons who were being led by another high-ranking player.
07:51The idea was wildly ambitious in a time when online gaming was beginning to reach its apex,
07:57but unfortunately, the game's ambitions outpaced the technology of the time, and the game was
08:02riddled with bugs, glitches, and performance issues which are a death note for an online
08:07gaming experience.
08:09Despite holding a Guinness World Record for most players in a console FPS, interest in
08:14Mag quickly died out, and after four years, servers were shut down, rendering the game
08:19completely unplayable.
08:26Drawn to Death
08:27It can be hard to break into the multiplayer gaming scene, and even despite its incredibly
08:36unique visual style, as well as the creators behind it, Drawn to Death died without ever
08:41really finding its audience.
08:43From the creator of Twisted Metal and God of War's David Jaffe, Drawn to Death dropped
08:48players into a high schooler's notebook to battle the other drawings come to life.
08:52Each of the many unique characters had their own special abilities and buffs, allowing
08:57players to select their playstyle they were most comfortable with.
09:00With inventive levels full of secrets as well as enough zany and over-the-top weapons to
09:04make Ratchet and Clank jealous, Drawn to Death could have been Sony's next big multiplayer
09:09property it was sorely missing.
09:11However, the game was let down by sporadic physics and uninspired gameplay, and ended
09:16up not only flopping commercially and financially, but killed Jaffe's new studio after only one
09:22release.
09:28Concord
09:29A game nobody wanted for an audience that doesn't exist, Concord was doomed from the
09:39start.
09:41With Sony's big marketing push for Concord being the company's first big move into live
09:44service gaming, Concord failed to generate any hype for a genre that was already on its
09:50way out.
09:51With bland, uninspired level design, horrible character designs that appealed to absolutely
09:56no one, and a bizarre approach to storytelling that involved weekly three-minute cutscenes
10:01to flesh out the world, Concord released to absolutely abysmal player numbers.
10:06With reportedly only 25,000 copies sold, and an even more embarrassing all-time player
10:12count on Steam of only 697, the writing was on the wall for this dumpster fire, and Sony
10:19put the final nail in the coffin and pulled the game from sale only two weeks after release,
10:24offering those few foolish enough to pay full price for the title full refunds.
10:35P.T.
10:42This is the one that hurts the most.
10:45In 2014, those who braved a playable teaser soon discovered that P.T. was in fact a demo
10:51for a new entry in the long-dormant Silent Hill series, being developed by industry legend
10:56Hideo Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, with Norman Reedus in the starring role.
11:02However, shortly after the hype began building for this anticipated new direction for the
11:06series, Konami pulled not only the plug on the revival following a nasty split with Kojima,
11:12but also pulled P.T. from digital storefronts, leaving only those who still had the demo
11:17downloaded being able to play it.
11:19This decision naturally led to a lot, and we do mean a lot, of backlash, not only from
11:27gamers, but other developers and members of the gaming community, who called the action
11:32spiteful and mean-spirited, with no justification rather than to retaliate at Kojima and his
11:38devoted fanbase.
