00:00Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best movies to hit theaters between 1990 and 1999.
00:15We'll be excluding animated movies and documentaries as both deserve their own lists.
00:20You are a child's play thing!
00:24You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity.
00:28Farewell.
00:30Number 30, Mrs. Doubtfire.
00:32There might not have been a brighter movie star in the 1990s than Robin Williams.
00:36In a career full of hilarious and heartfelt performances,
00:39the legendary comedian's dual role in Mrs. Doubtfire makes a decent case for being his finest hour.
00:45Miss Hiller? The water's boiling.
00:49Hello! Ah!
00:52Oh, I'm sorry to frighten you, dear, I must look like a yeti in this getup.
00:56He stars as Daniel Hillard, an unemployed and recently divorced actor
01:00who assumes the identity of a Scottish housekeeper to spend more time with his kids and become a better father.
01:05Thanks to his flair for theatrics and improvisation,
01:08Mrs. Doubtfire remains one of Williams' most endearing characters.
01:12His antics make it a near-perfect comedy, but Mrs. Doubtfire is elevated by its dramatic tension,
01:17as the film never shies away from addressing topics that many viewers know all too well.
01:22I love them with all my heart, and the idea of someone telling me I can't be with them,
01:26I can't see them every day, it's like someone saying I can't have air.
01:32I can't live without air, and I can't live without them.
01:37Although Alien and Blade Runner had already made him an in-demand filmmaker,
01:41Ridley Scott all but solidified his legacy with this road trip dramedy.
01:45On the run from the law when an attempted assault turns deadly,
01:49best friends Thelma and Louise find their fates growing closer in the rearview mirror.
01:53Please, I have a wife and kids, please.
01:57You do? Well, you're lucky.
01:59You'd be sweet to them, especially your wife.
02:02My husband wasn't sweet to me, look how I turned out.
02:04Each roadblock the two women encounter tests how much further they're willing to go for each other,
02:09but their devotion helps the film beyond its potentially dark story.
02:13Thelma and Louise succeeds off the strength of its lead's unrivaled chemistry,
02:17with Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon both receiving Oscar nominations for their work.
02:21If you hadn't come out when you did, it would've hurt me a lot worse.
02:24And probably nothing would've happened to him,
02:26because everybody did see me dancing with him all night.
02:28They would've made out like I'd asked for it.
02:32My life would've been ruined a whole lot worse than it is now.
02:34Scott was rightfully recognized with a nomination himself,
02:37and the film ultimately took home a gold statuette for its genre-defying screenplay.
02:43L.A. Confidential
02:44With cinematography recalling shades of Norman Rockwell and Edward Hopper among others,
02:49L.A. Confidential is like a canvas of noirish paintings effortlessly transplanted into the late 90s.
02:55A lesser movie would be content to stop there.
02:57But this whodunit backs up its luscious style with a superbly crafted mystery
03:01that pits a trio of L.A. detectives against each other as their own motives get in the way of finding the truth.
03:07How's it gonna look in your report?
03:08It'll look like justice.
03:09That's what the man got.
03:11Justice.
03:12You don't know the meaning of the word.
03:13In fact, there are so many moving pieces that it may take a few additional viewings to fully unpack.
03:19That's more than fine by us, as the intriguing ensemble,
03:23led by relative unknowns Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe,
03:26and compelling twists make it a must-watch, especially for genre aficionados.
03:31All I ever wanted was to measure up to my father.
03:35Now's your chance.
03:38You died in the line of duty, didn't you?
03:46So much has been made of this supernatural horror movie's startling twist ending
03:50that you'd think people would ignore the rest of it in their appraisals.
03:53Thankfully, they haven't, as The Sixth Sense and its humane portrayal of life after death
03:58leaves viewers with plenty to ruminate on.
04:01I see dead people.
04:05In your dreams?
04:10While you're awake?
04:14Following a psychologist who attempts to help a boy that can communicate with the departed,
04:18the interactions between Bruce Willis and Haley Joel Osment are candid and decidedly unglamorous.
04:24Thanks to M. Night Shyamalan's careful handling of difficult ideas,
04:27moments of quiet reflection make the burden of Cole Sears' ability
04:31seem more terrifying than any jump scare ever could.
04:34I think I might know a way to make them go away.
04:36How?
04:39Listen to them.
04:43What if they don't want help?
04:45What if they're just angry and they just want to hurt somebody?
04:48Like Willis' Malcolm Crowe, The Sixth Sense makes you uncomfortable with your surroundings.
04:53But that's why it's so effective.
04:56The Fugitive
04:57Harrison Ford commandeered pop culture throughout the late 70s and early 80s
05:01as the embodiment of both Han Solo and Indiana Jones.
05:04Dr. Richard Kimball may not have a blaster or a whip,
05:07but Ford brings the same level of commitment to the role of the wrongfully accused surgeon
05:11searching for his wife's one-armed killer.
05:14Hey doc, we're looking for a prisoner from that bus train wreck a couple hours ago.
05:17Might be hurt.
05:19What does he look like?
05:206'1", 180, brown hair, brown eyes, beards.
05:23Anyone like that around?
05:25Every time I look in the mirror, pal.
05:27Except for the beard, of course.
05:29The Fugitive is admittedly more pressed for time than the TV series that inspired it.
05:33But with Tommy Lee Jones keeping pace with Ford as U.S. Marshal Gerard,
05:37it finds the best use for every minute until Kimball's furious quest for vengeance is complete.
05:42I didn't kill my wife!
05:45I don't care!
05:47It makes for one of the most daring and suspenseful chases in movie history,
05:51one that could give Hitchcock himself a run for his money.
05:5425. Malcolm X
05:56Several important figures have gotten the biopic treatment,
05:59but few manage to honor their subject to the degree that this one does.
06:02Based on Malcolm X's own autobiography,
06:05Spike Lee's retelling of the controversial civil rights leader's life and times
06:08is one of the most ambitious movies of its kind.
06:11I'm not out to fight other Negro leaders.
06:13As of this minute, I have forgotten every bad thing that other leaders have said about me,
06:17and I pray that they also forget the many bad things that I have said about them.
06:21We must work together. We must find a common solution to a common problem.
06:25Across three and a half hours, Lee gracefully captures Malcolm's time in prison,
06:29his conversion to Islam, his untimely assassination, and everything in between.
06:34Denzel Washington gives the performance of a lifetime,
06:37tapping into his character's imperfections
06:39while also emboldening the audience to trust in Malcolm's convictions.
06:43How it didn't win him an Oscar is beyond us,
06:46but Malcolm X offers universal lessons that only grow stronger with time,
06:50making it an epic in the truest sense.
07:08Election's satirical take on high school life was already groundbreaking for its time,
07:12but hindsight has made it one of the more relevant movies of the last few decades.
07:16Growing annoyed by obnoxious overachiever Tracy Flick,
07:19high school teacher Jim McAllister decides to upend her campaign for student council
07:23by convincing a popular jock to run against her.
07:26Now you can make a decision. Do you want an apple or do you want an orange?
07:31That's democracy.
07:33I also like bananas.
07:36Exactly. Good.
07:38Prescient themes like sabotage, self-righteousness, and the indifference of voters
07:42run amok as the election is thrown for several amusing loops.
07:46Matthew Broderick and Reese Witherspoon both give pitch-perfect performances,
07:50delivering blows to each other's egos that become increasingly hard to take.
07:54But it's the film's willingness to jab at democracy and its various loopholes
07:58that make it a flick we'll definitely continue to pick.
08:01The same pathetic charade happens every year.
08:05And everyone makes the same pathetic promises,
08:08just so they can put it on their transcripts to get into college.
08:13So vote for me, because I don't even want to go to college.
08:19Not every space story needs a scary alien to take your breath away.
08:23And we mean that literally.
08:25Just as the real Apollo 13 mission was aborted due to a depleted oxygen supply,
08:29this exhilarating recreation of the disaster-turned-triumph
08:32will leave you unsure of when to stop and catch a breath.
08:35Oh. Hey.
08:40Uh, this is Houston. Say again, please?
08:43Houston, we have a problem.
08:44With its painstaking attention to detail,
08:46Apollo 13 is a claustrophobic reminder of what astronauts put at risk
08:51and how little we really know about surviving in space.
08:54But an all-star cast led by the likes of Tom Hanks
08:57ensures that it works equally as a moving tribute
09:00to those who work tirelessly to bring these people home.
09:03Simply put, failure to revisit this film any chance we get is not an option.
09:08I want this mark all the way back to Earth with time to spare.
09:13We never lost an American in space.
09:15We're sure as hell not gonna lose one on my watch.
09:17Failure is not an option.
09:22You want answers?
09:23I think I'm entitled.
09:24You want answers!
09:25I want the truth!
09:26You can't handle the truth!
09:28Sure, it's probably best remembered for Jack Nicholson's climactic proclamation.
09:32But one thing a few good men can be declared guilty of
09:35is making such an iconic moment worth the wait.
09:38Starring Tom Cruise as a lawyer defending two Marines charged with murder,
09:42it is an intricately woven examination of unquestioning obedience
09:46and the lengths one is willing to go to seek justice.
09:49When Dawson and Downey went into Santiago's room that night,
09:52it wasn't because of vengeance or hatred.
09:54It wasn't to kill or harm.
09:56And it wasn't because they were looking for kicks on a Friday night.
09:59It's because it was what they were ordered to do.
10:01As Lieutenant Caffey dives deeper into the conspiracy at the heart of the crime,
10:04the courtroom becomes a veritable battleground
10:07with the honor and integrity of everyone involved at stake.
10:10The hard-hitting dialogue of screenwriter Aaron Sorkin leaves no loose ends,
10:14making A Few Good Men not only an above-average legal drama,
10:17but one of the best the genre has to offer.
10:22To say that horror maestro Wes Craven was betting the house on Scream
10:26might be the understatement of the decade.
10:28But much like the comically uncoordinated Ghostface,
10:31Craven had seen enough movies to know how to turn the genre completely on its head.
10:43With the central killer preying upon a group of teens
10:46who should really be able to see his tricks coming,
10:48Craven is borderline diabolical in his use of humor to deconstruct slasher tropes.
10:53And yet Scream is also an earnest and genuine thriller in its own right.
10:57With a cast chock-full of up-and-comers and plenty of scares to boot,
11:00it is a celebration of horror's past that helped carve out a bold new path for its future.
11:31We're gonna have to break a few rules here and talk about Fight Club.
11:35The story of an unnamed protagonist and his friend Tyler Durden
11:38as they form the eponymous organization,
11:40Fight Club spoke to an entire generation.
11:43Despite its title, Fight Club is more about ideas,
11:47particularly finding meaning and purpose in a society
11:50that seems designed to strip them away from us.
12:01It's commentary on consumerism and male identity remain timely today.
12:05Plus, it has a ton of quotable lines and plenty of unexpected developments.
12:10Fight Club may have come at the tail end of the 90s,
12:13but it still managed to make a big impact among a great decade of film.
12:30Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes,
12:33working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.
12:39There were other hood dramas before Boys in the Hood,
12:42but it was this movie that helped popularize them.
12:50The film follows several young black men in Los Angeles
12:53as they find themselves caught between the lucrative benefits of a dangerous criminal life
12:57and the more difficult pursuit of legitimate education and careers.
13:14Full of breakout performances from actors like Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ice Cube,
13:18Boys in the Hood brought attention not only to its actors and director, John Singleton,
13:22but also to the kind of people and communities that they portrayed on screen.
13:28Number 18. Groundhog Day
13:31What if you kept living the same day over and over again?
13:46Groundhog Day sees a sarcastic and cynical news anchor, Phil Connors,
13:51trapped in Pennsylvania on the titular day and forced to relive it in a time loop.
13:56Phil's repeated loops alternate between comedic, hopeful, and despairing,
14:01though he does eventually find peace through helping others, even if they won't remember it.
14:19Groundhog Day is the perfect blend of comedy and hope, with a dash of romance too.
14:27Plus, the film has practically become a synonym for the concept of time loops.
14:38Number 17. Good Will Hunting
14:40Written by and starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Good Will Hunting follows Will,
14:45a self-taught genius with anger issues.
14:48Will undergoes court-mandated therapy sessions,
14:51while also struggling with his love life and what to do about his future.
14:57Yeah.
15:01Well, I got a number. How do you like them apples?
15:04Will's developing bonds with both his love interest and his therapist,
15:08played by a top-of-his-game Robin Williams, are absolute magic to watch.
15:12It's not your fault.
15:14The exploration of his past trauma, as well as his defense mechanisms, is heartbreaking and relatable.
15:19Featuring a stellar cast with breakout roles and returning veterans,
15:23Good Will Hunting is an outstanding drama that will make you laugh and cry in equal measure.
15:28Sorry. I had to go see about a girl.
15:32Will.
15:35Son of a bitch. He stole my life.
15:38Number 16. Seven
15:40Seven details the lives of two detectives,
15:43as they investigate a string of grisly, ritualistic crimes themed around the seven deadly sins.
15:48Some kind of friggin' wax sculpture or something.
15:52A sense of mystery pervades David Fincher's film,
15:55as even after the villain is caught, there are plenty more surprises in store.
16:00Seven takes a look at the uglier side of humanity,
16:03and its grim aesthetic exudes that.
16:05But that's the point.
16:08We see a deadly sin on every street corner, in every home,
16:13and we tolerate it.
16:15We tolerate it because it's common. It's trivial.
16:19The movie isn't for the faint of heart,
16:21yet those with the stomach for it will find an excellent thriller.
16:25The Murderer is right about one thing.
16:27These events have fascinated us for years.
16:30Put the gun down.
16:31I saw you with a box. What was in the box?
16:33Because I envy your normal life.
16:35Put the gun down, David.
16:36It seems that envy is my sin.
16:37No, what's in the box?
16:39Number 15. Forrest Gump
16:41Hello. My name's Forrest.
16:44Forrest Gump.
16:50Do you want a chocolate?
16:52Does anyone dislike this movie?
16:54Forrest Gump follows the title character during his life
16:57across the latter half of the 20th century.
17:00His unwitting luck and effect on major events are very endearing,
17:04as are his friendships and relationships that he makes along the way.
17:07The film has so many unforgettable quotes and scenes,
17:10Run, Forrest, run!
17:12not to mention a standout performance by Tom Hanks as Forrest.
17:16I'm not a smart man.
17:19But I know what love is.
17:22It's no wonder it won so many awards,
17:24including Best Picture at the Oscars.
17:26You'd be so proud of him.
17:30I am.
17:31Still, in our opinion, it wasn't even the best movie that year.
17:35Number 14. Saving Private Ryan
17:38Speaking of Tom Hanks,
17:39the actor also stars in this incredible Steven Spielberg film.
17:43Set during World War II,
17:45Saving Private Ryan follows a squad of American soldiers
17:48as they search for the titular private,
17:50his mother's last surviving son.
17:59Its graphic and harrowing depiction of war is almost unmatched in cinema.
18:03The D-Day landing scene alone would be enough to put it on our list.
18:07But the ensemble cast and many great set pieces elevate it even further.
18:15And I was with the only brothers that I have left.
18:18And there's no way I was going to desert them.
18:22I think she'll understand that.
18:24It is, quite simply, one of the greatest war movies ever made.
18:38Number 13. Heat
18:40Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the same movie is always great.
18:44But Heat is so much more than two legendary actors.
18:58De Niro plays the leader of a gang of thieves,
19:00whose brazen robberies have him pursued by Pacino's detective.
19:04The game of cat and mouse is thrilling,
19:07with both parties getting one up on the other.
19:15I don't much want to either.
19:17Neither do I.
19:19Along with the top-shelf acting,
19:21Heat delivers some of the most intense
19:23and frighteningly realistic shootouts around.
19:26It's one of the most well-executed thrillers
19:28featuring a battle between a lawman and a criminal besides the Dark Knight.
19:32It's that good.
19:33Now, if you're on me and you gotta move when I move,
19:36how do you expect to keep a... a marriage?
19:41That's an interesting point.
19:44Number 12. The Truman Show
19:46Truman Burbank lives in a sleepy seaside town
19:49and has a seemingly perfect life.
19:58However, it's all a lie.
20:00His life has been a carefully orchestrated TV show
20:03since the day he was born.
20:05He gradually comes to realize this
20:07and tries to escape his massive set-slash-prison.
20:11The Truman Show features satire on reality television
20:14and entertainment in general
20:16that have only become more relevant as time has gone on.
20:19However, the film also speaks to deeper themes on truth,
20:22rebellion, and the American Dream.
20:24It was nothing real.
20:26You were real.
20:29It's what made you so good to watch.
20:31Truman's search for truth is one many of us experience in our own lives.
20:35In case I don't see ya.
20:38Good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
20:40Number 11. Boogie Nights
20:42One of the greatest movies of the 90s
20:44is set more in the 70s and 80s.
20:46Chronicling the career of adult film star Dirk Diggler
20:49as well as his friends and co-workers,
20:51Boogie Nights feels like a time capsule
20:53of the period and lifestyle it depicts,
20:55while also heightening the experience in subtle ways.
20:58It's my dream to make a film
21:03that is true
21:06and right
21:08and dramatic.
21:09The characters are complex and relatable,
21:11the scenes are memorable,
21:13and the tone veers between comedic and violent with ease.
21:17Hey, don't, don't, don't do that. No, no, no.
21:19No, no, no, no, no.
21:20While its content is decidedly adult,
21:22there are some universal themes at work here
21:24that everyone should experience.
21:26If nothing else, the soundtrack is a must-listen.
21:36Number 10. Jurassic Park
21:38Dr. Grant.
21:40My dear Dr. Satchel.
21:42Welcome
21:44to Jurassic Park.
21:45There are dinosaur movies,
21:47and then there's Jurassic Park.
21:49You all know the drill.
21:51Dinosaur zoo,
21:52visitors need to escape when they run amok.
21:54What has science done?
21:55I don't think you're giving us our due credit.
21:58Our scientists have done things
21:59which nobody's ever done before.
22:01Yeah, yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied
22:03with whether or not they could,
22:04they didn't stop to think if they should.
22:06The plot's not complex,
22:07but it's in the execution
22:09that Jurassic Park manages to be
22:10one of the finest disaster films ever.
22:13The characters are all well-realized
22:15and entertaining,
22:16so when they're in danger,
22:17you actually care.
22:19The effects hold up decades later,
22:21and the direction helps create perfect tension.
22:24The music is iconic
22:26and sweeps you off your feet.
22:29Jurassic Park
22:30basically helped everyone realize
22:32what paleontologists and kids already knew.
22:35Dinosaurs are awesome.
22:37Number nine,
22:38The Big Lebowski.
22:39You got the wrong guy.
22:40I'm the dude, man.
22:42Your name's Lebowski, Lebowski.
22:44As tempted as we were to include Fargo,
22:47which is also spectacular,
22:49another Coen brothers movie won out.
22:51Sometimes a story doesn't need a hero,
22:53it just needs a villain.
22:55The dude, to be precise.
22:57I'm the dude,
22:58so that's what you call me.
23:00You know,
23:01that or his dude-ness
23:03or dude-er or, you know,
23:06el dude-erino,
23:07if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
23:09The Big Lebowski follows the dude
23:11and the many colorful characters he encounters
23:13as he becomes embroiled in a kidnapping plot.
23:16The Big Lebowski is an experience
23:18unlike any other,
23:19filled with dreams and adventures.
23:23filled with dream sequences,
23:25strange characters
23:27and more iconic lines
23:29than a quarter of our list put together.
23:31This is what happens, Larry.
23:32You see what happens, Larry?
23:34The Big Lebowski,
23:35like the dude himself,
23:36abides in our collective consciousness
23:38and we take comfort in that.
23:40Take it easy, dude.
23:41Oh, yeah.
23:42I know that you will.
23:44Yeah, well,
23:46the dude abides.
23:48Number eight,
23:49Titanic.
23:50Titanic is one of the highest-grossing
23:52and most critically acclaimed movies
23:54of all time.
23:55Of course,
23:56it's one of the best 90s movies.
23:58In case you weren't alive during the time
24:00or were just out of touch,
24:01Titanic is a fictionalized account
24:03of the real-life sinking
24:04of the RMS Titanic.
24:06It primarily follows Rose and Jack,
24:08two lovers from different social classes
24:11who meet and fall in love
24:12on the doomed ship's voyage.
24:14I'm flying.
24:15Jack.
24:16It's a disaster movie,
24:18a period drama
24:19and a romance film
24:21all rolled up into one.
24:23This combination,
24:24along with James Cameron's
24:25Oscar-winning direction,
24:26excellent performances,
24:28stellar effects
24:29and much more
24:30helped make it
24:31one of the biggest movies ever made.
24:33Never let go.
24:37I will never let go, Jack.
24:42I'll never let go.
24:44But, like the ship itself,
24:45the movie isn't unsinkable.

25:00as are the tense
25:01and fascinating interviews
25:02between Clarice and Hannibal.
25:04A census taker once tried to test me.
25:07I ate his liver with some fava beans
25:10and a nice Chianti.
25:15The Silence of the Lambs
25:16is among the most intense
25:18and influential thrillers ever made,
25:20with outstanding performances,
25:22great dialogue,
25:23unforgettable villains
25:25and suspense and horror
25:26around every corner.
25:28Amputate a man's leg
25:29and he can still feel it tickling.
25:32Tell me, Mom,
25:33when your little girl is on the slab,
25:35where will it tickle you?
25:37Take this thing back to Baltimore.
25:40It's no surprise that director
25:42Jonathan Demme's film
25:43won the Big Five at the Oscars.
25:45Best picture,
25:46best director,
25:47best actor,
25:48best actress
25:49and best adapted screenplay.
25:51Like the wines Dr. Lecter favors,
25:53the film has aged well
25:55and it's just as captivating today.
25:58Number 6. The Matrix
26:00Nope, it's not a glitch in The Matrix.
26:02This movie really came out in the 90s.
26:04The Matrix revolutionized action movies
26:07with its jaw-dropping special effects
26:09and exceptional fights.
26:10Come on, stop trying to hit me and hit me.
26:13But it's also no slouch
26:15when it comes to its story.
26:16The film's look at a world
26:17where humans are controlled by machines
26:19who have placed them
26:20in the titular artificial reality
26:22got everyone thinking about our own reality,
26:24along with other big questions.
26:26Remember,
26:28all I'm offering is the truth,
26:30nothing more.
26:31Few movies can get you this pumped,
26:33look this cool
26:34and make you think.
26:36Even now,
26:37watching The Matrix
26:38still elicits the same reaction.
26:41Number 5. Terminator 2 Judgment Day
26:44Before James Cameron destroyed box office records
26:47with Titanic,
26:48he blew everyone away
26:49with this unparalleled action movie.
26:51Two robot assassins are sent back to the past
26:54in the sequel,
26:55one to protect John Connor,

26:58and the other to terminate him.
27:00Come with me if you want to live.
27:02Everything about this film,
27:03from its action scenes
27:04to its one-liners
27:05to its imagery,
27:06is iconic
27:07and lands perfectly.
27:09T2 is a sequel so good
27:11it basically helped popularize sequels,
27:14as well as the use of computer effects.
27:16Even if action movies are not your thing,
27:18you'd have to be more robotic than a Terminator
27:21not to feel something for this film.
27:29Number 4. The Shawshank Redemption
27:31Prison can be a grim experience,
27:33and The Shawshank Redemption
27:35certainly doesn't shy away from that.
27:37The film follows Andy Dufresne,
27:38a likely innocent inmate
27:40during his decades of imprisonment
27:42and the friends and enemies he makes
27:44during his incarceration.
27:58But amid the darkest moments,
28:00Andy and the film show
28:01that there can still be hope.
28:03While audiences slept on it initially,
28:05The Shawshank Redemption
28:06has gradually become regarded
28:08as not just a classic of the 90s,
28:10but also one of cinema's greatest.
28:13You either get busy living
28:14or you get busy dying.
28:16And you are not living your best life
28:18if you haven't seen Shawshank.
28:32Based on real events
28:33during the Second World War,
28:34Schindler's List depicts
28:35the efforts of Oskar Schindler,
28:37a German war profiteer,
28:38as he attempts to save the lives
28:40of Jewish citizens
28:41through employing them in his factory.
28:53Schindler's List conveys
28:54one of the most awful events
28:55in human history
28:56with stark yet beautiful filmmaking
28:59and powerful performances.
29:00As with most media involving the Holocaust,
29:03it can be hard to watch,
29:04particularly more than once.
29:06But the fact that it is based on true events
29:09only makes it more worthy of attention.
29:19There are few gangster movies
29:21that are even in the same league
29:23as the Godfather films,
29:24and Goodfellas is right up there with them.
29:27Based on the life of real mob member
29:29Henry Hill,
29:30Goodfellas is outstanding
29:31from top to bottom.
29:33The cast is stacked with huge actors
29:35who deliver some of their best performances,
29:37particularly an Oscar-winning Joe Pesci.
29:44The camera work is exceptional,
29:46the story is well told,
29:48grips you throughout,
29:49and the script has iconic line
29:52after iconic line.

30:07of the last few decades,
30:08and certainly one of the best of the 90s,
30:11though not quite our number one.

30:32Pulp Fiction
30:37As phenomenal as Quentin Tarantino's
30:39debut film Reservoir Dogs was,
30:41he delivered what many consider
30:43to be his magnum opus
30:44with his sophomore movie.
30:46Told out of chronological order
30:48and following a group of interrelated criminals
30:50through several violent and unpredictable events,
30:53the film is anything but traditional
30:55and started plenty of trends of its own.
30:58Featuring an all-star ensemble cast
31:00and Tarantino's signature naturalistic
31:02yet insanely quotable dialogue,
31:04Pulp Fiction has a little something for everyone.
31:16There's romance, suspense, action,
31:19comedy and mystery.
31:21It's the choice bits of cinema
31:22thrown into a blender
31:23to make a delicious smoothie of a movie
31:26and the greatest 90s film of them all.

31:34and I am the tyranny of evil men.
