00:00Welcome to WatchMojo and make sure you walk left in your side scrollers because you never
00:13know what you might find.
00:14These are the Top 20 Nintendo Secrets it took years to find.
00:18Let's go.
00:194.
00:20Golf
00:21The Nintendo Switch has quickly become one of Nintendo's most successful consoles in
00:29recent years and inarguably one of the best consoles ever made.
00:32I'm literally waiting for my Switch to charge so I can hit my farm in Stardew when I'm done
00:35writing this entry.
00:37This love for the console has led to curiosity with some modders and tech-savvy players exploring
00:41the system's files and one modder unearthing a hidden gem, a copy of the classic 1984 NES
00:48game Golf, tucked away in the Switch's programming.
00:51Gamers speculated that this meant that the Switch was heading towards emulation later
00:54in it's lifetime and turns out they were correct.
00:593.
01:01Creepy Stare Super Mario 64
01:11Alright let's step into some creepy territory, some spooky times.
01:14Typically when you pause a game everything freezes, giving players a moment to strategize,
01:19catch their breath or just take a break.
01:21But what if not everything actually stops?
01:24That's right, Toy Story.
01:25In Super Mario 64 there's a subtle yet unnerving detail many players might have overlooked.
01:31When you pause the game some characters don't freeze completely, instead they keep blinking
01:35staring right at you with an unsettling gaze.
01:38Is this Silent Hill?
01:432.
01:44E.T.
01:45Phone Nintendo Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town
01:55Exploring Japanese mythology in games isn't exactly new but diving into the darker elements
01:59of Japanese culture and folklore in a cute farm sim, that's wild.
02:03In Animal Crossing there's a hidden easter egg that's sure to unsettle players.
02:07If you're awake at 3.33am you'll spot a pair of red eyes appearing to be an alien staring
02:12back at you from the TV.
02:14Meanwhile in Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town at 4.44am a message reading SHE pops
02:19up on the screen and repeats continuously.
02:22She means deceased, did I mention that already?
02:26The Upside Down Super Mario Bros.
02:35While there's no demogorgon or telepathic pre-teen in sight, there is a secret world
02:39in Super Mario Bros. that mirrors the familiar realms we've seen while playing.
02:43Called Minus World, this bizarre level in the NES version is also listed as world negative
02:481, or minus 1 in the games menu.
02:50However unlike the other levels, it's not all as it seems.
02:53The Minus World is a twisted reflection of world 7-2, but the exit pipe at the end of
02:57the level doesn't lead to progress, it sends you right back to the start.
03:01No thanks, I'll just take the real Upside Down.
03:07The Sky Trees, Super Mario Galaxy 2 In Super Mario Galaxy 2 there's an area
03:17called Shiverburn Galaxy full of lava pits and black holes.
03:20On the cliffs of this treacherous place you'll spot a trio of mysterious figures watching
03:24you ominously as you pass by.
03:26They appear alien, and with free cam hacks this was basically confirmed, but hackers
03:31who dove into the files found that they were called Hell Valley Sky Trees.
03:35Scary or not, this marks one of the first times Mario's worlds delve into supernatural
03:39themes, and I'm here for it.
03:44Totaka's Legacy Various Nintendo Games
03:56What would gaming be without music?
03:58What would The Last of Us be without the nylon string guitar?
04:00What would Mario Kart be without brass?
04:02Can you imagine iconic titles like Halo, Kingdom Hearts or Mass Effect without their memorable
04:06soundtracks accompanying their most pivotal moments?
04:09One of the most renowned composers in gaming is Kazumi Totaka, and his most enduring legacy
04:14might not be widely known, Totaka's Song.
04:17This secret tune appears in over 12 games, but it can only be unlocked by completing
04:21specific tasks in each title, many of which have taken players years to discover, like
04:25in Luigi's Mansion where it starts to play after 3 and a half minutes of inactivity on
04:29the controller setting the screen.
04:31Almost impossible to come across if you aren't specifically looking for it.
04:39Disturbing Feature, Perfect Dark
04:47One of Nintendo's weirdest features is actually quite disturbing.
04:50In Perfect Dark for the N64, players could plug in and use the Game Boy Camera.
04:54Hidden within the game was a feature that many might not know about as it was eventually
04:58cut from the final release.
05:00This feature allows you to take a picture of anyone, friends, family or even strangers
05:04and import it into the game where it would be superimposed onto an enemy character for
05:09you to destroy.
05:10It's hard to fathom who thought this was a good idea, shooting your parents and friends.
05:19Mew Without Game Genie, Pokemon Red and Blue
05:28There are hacky ways to get your hands on Mew in Pokemon Red and Blue, but as it turns
05:32out, there is actually a way to catch Mew in the game without resorting to cheating
05:35devices like Game Genie or GameShark.
05:37In 2003, a glitch was discovered that lets you catch any Pokemon in the game including
05:43the elusive Mew.
05:44This glitch relies on another bug called the Trainer Fly Glitch which occurs when you encounter
05:48a rival trainer within their line of sight and then escape.
05:52For certain trainers who have a specific range where they can spot you, there's a moment
05:56where you can still open the start menu and use Field Move.
05:58If you use Fly or similar moves to escape, the game will think you're starting a battle
06:02but instead, you're flying away.
06:04This causes the game to misread certain values triggering the glitch.
06:07To get Mew, you'll need to follow a few more steps including battling a specific trainer.
06:12Is it worth it?
06:13A smart person wouldn't ask.
06:22Unbeatable Samus Metroid
06:24Here's a password in the original Metroid that wasn't widely known till the internet
06:31was invented.
06:32Referred to as Narpus Sword, the code is entered as NarpusSword0 followed by a string of zeros
06:38on the password screen.
06:39Whatever it's meaning, the code unlocks nearly everything.
06:43Samus' health won't drop below 30, she has unlimited missiles and all of her weapons
06:47and abilities are unlocked.
06:48But that's not all, completing the game in this mode allows you to start again, this
06:51time in the Zero Suit, the uncollectable coin Super Mario 64.
07:08Believe it or not, even as late as 2014, fans were still uncovering secrets in Nintendo's
07:13now iconic Mario 64, the ground-breaking 3D platformer that brought the plumber into a
07:18new dimension.
07:19At some point, also well after release, players discovered a coin on the tiny huge island
07:23course that couldn't be collected.
07:25Unlike the other 191 coins in the level, this one was unique as it was completely unreachable.
07:31This golden coin was buried beneath the ground, making it physically impossible to grab.
07:36However, in 2014, 18 years later, someone finally managed to collect it.
07:41By using emulation tweaks like slow motion, we were able to see what could be done if
07:45human limitations like skill and reflexes weren't a factor.
07:48Unfortunately for me, those limitations will be with me for life.
07:59Two player mode, Super Punch-out It's always been a missed opportunity that
08:06players couldn't take control of some of the more memorable characters in Punch-out, like
08:10Bald Bull or Mad Clown.
08:11Fast forward 28 years to the discovery of this hidden trick that allows you to play
08:16as these characters.
08:17The first step is to access a secret stage select menu using a newly discovered code.
08:22Once on the character's info screen, the second player should press B and Y while the
08:26first player presses start or A, and just like that, you can finally live out the dream
08:30of bashing your friends in Punch-out.
08:37Not Random Bubble Bobble Bubble Bobble is a beloved classic from the
08:4880's arcade era with 99 levels and a wealth of hidden secrets.
08:51The game is packed with odd occurrences that players once thought were triggered completely
08:55at random.
08:56However, when the game's ROM was examined more than a decade later, hackers uncovered
09:00a much deeper system at work.
09:02Bubble Bobble actually tracks a wide variety of player actions, like the number of bubbles
09:07you've blown and popped, and how many times you've jumped, using these stats to determine
09:11the power-ups that appear.
09:12In the late 90's, these stats were mastered by speedrunners and used to cheese the game
09:17like a margarita pizza.
09:23Play as Shin Akuma, Street Fighter Alpha 2
09:30When Akuma appeared in the Street Fighter Alpha series, the developers toned him down
09:34to make him more balanced.
09:35To satisfy fans of the original games, they introduced a more extreme version called Shin
09:39Akuma as a boss, showcasing the character at his full potential.
09:42Fast forward 25 years after the impressive SNES port of Street Fighter Alpha 2 where
09:46players dug into the game's code and uncovered a way to play as Shin Akuma.
09:51Get ready to dominate because he's quite bloody strong.
10:00Naboo Fighter Star Wars Rogue Squadron
10:08Rogue Squadron for the N64 hit shelves in 1998, and while the game featured numerous
10:12cheat codes, there was one particular special secret kept hidden from the public.
10:17Tucked deep within the game's data was a code to unlock the Naboo Starfighter.
10:21At the time of release, no one would have understood the significance of this as Episode
10:241 hadn't been released yet.
10:26To unlock it, players had to input two separate passwords, and once done they would discover
10:30a piece of future Star Wars lore, which I guess nobody did.
10:34We had to wait till LucasArts said, hey, try this losers.
10:47Unlock Everything Castlevania Legacy of Darkness
10:56Back in the day, if you were playing a Konami game, there was a good chance you'd come
10:59across a secret by entering the famous Konami code.
11:02Castlevania Legacy of Darkness took a unique spin on the code.
11:06Discovered 25 years after the game's release by Jupiter Climb, this version requires you
11:11to use the N64's yellow buttons for the directional inputs, but with a twist.
11:16You need to press everything twice, so instead of just up, up, down, down, you'll have to
11:19do up, up, up, down, down, down.
11:21Then instead of pressing start, you hit the Z trigger.
11:23Doing this unlocks all characters along with their alternate skins and grants access to
11:28the game's hard mode.
11:29How dare they change the code, that's sacrilege.
11:39Emulator GoldenEye 007
11:50Developer Rare tucked away numerous glitches and hidden game modes in their titles, many
11:53of which were discovered while the N64 was still in its prime.
11:57However, one GoldenEye secret didn't surface until 2012, 15 years after the game's original
12:03release.
12:04It turns out that Rare had a team experimenting with the possibility of emulating titles with
12:08the ZX Spectrum, the British home computer launched in 1982.
12:12The code they developed for this project was hidden in the game files of GoldenEye.
12:16Instead of removing it before release, Rare simply patched over it, leaving the emulator
12:20hidden within the game's cartridge.
12:30Rare Initials Donkey Kong
12:42The developer who programmed Donkey Kong for the rarely used Atari 400 home computer managed
12:47to conceal his initials so well that they remained undiscovered for 26 years.
12:52To reveal Landon M. Dyer's initials on the title screen, players must die with a score
12:57that contains a specific combination of digits, lose their last life by falling and then set
13:02the game difficulty to level 4.
13:03Who would have guessed that?
13:05Well probably Landon, the egomaniac, just put your hand in concrete like a normal person
13:09you f***ing nerd.
13:16Bald Bull Mike Tyson's Punch Out
13:25The classic NES boxing game revolves around pattern recognition and learning to read your
13:29opponent's attack cues.
13:31Remarkably, one such cue went unnoticed for an astounding 22 years.
13:35When facing Bald Bull, the usual strategy is to interrupt his bull charge.
13:39However, in a 2009 interview, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed a simpler method.
13:44By paying attention to the background, you can spot an audience member taking a picture
13:48with a camera flash.
13:49When the flash goes off, land a body blow to knock Bald Bull down for the count.
13:54How mad did that make Punch Out fans?
13:55Because I feel second hand anger.
14:01Players Master Hand Super Smash Bros Melee
14:06About 7 years after the release of Super Smash Bros Melee, players discovered a hidden feature
14:10that allowed them to play as the series' mysterious boss character.
14:14There are a couple of methods to activate this, but they both involve plugging a controller
14:17into the third port, not selecting a character, and leaving the cursor on the name's entry
14:21screen.
14:22While it's impossible to control Master Hand, it's more of a novelty than anything
14:25substantial.
14:26Master Hand can't be used in classic mode, and just playing as the character can cause
14:29the game to crash in certain situations, potentially even corrupting your save data.
14:34Typical white guy.
14:35I don't know what that means, but when I wrote it, it made me laugh.

14:54Chris Houlihan Room The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
15:04In 1990, Nintendo held a contest through their Nintendo Power magazine, offering fans the
15:09chance to have their name featured in an upcoming NES game.
15:12The winner, Chris Houlihan, had his name included in The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
15:17on the Super Nintendo.
15:18However, despite the contest's notoriety, it wasn't until the early 2000s that anyone
15:22realized where Houlihan's name was hidden in the game.
15:25His name appeared on a plaque in a secret room, so well hidden that players could only
15:29find it by glitching Link's position in the game.
15:32Thanks Nintendo Power magazine, but I'd have preferred a f***ing gift card.
