Transcript
00:00Welcome to WatchMojo and today we are focusing on those weird moments that made our eyebrows
00:14raise, those often lesser known moments that made us furrow our brows, those sections of
00:19games that made us say what the fudge, the baby Resident Evil Village.
00:35When Resident Evil Village introduced vampires and werewolves to the classic zombie franchise,
00:40few could have predicted it would also feature a massive deformed baby fetus that chases
00:44you through narrow corridors intent on devouring you whole.
00:48Encountered early in the game with in-house Beneviento, many players were left speechless
00:53at this nightmarish creature brilliantly designed to make our skin crawl, yet utterly bizarre
00:58its scream rang through our ears like a nightmarish foghorn.
01:02As strange as the concept of a giant baby might sound for a horror antagonist, Village
01:06manages to make it one of the games most unsettling and terrifying moments.
01:10So WTF?
01:20Game Over Nevermind God of War Ragnarok
01:36In God of War Ragnarok, Kratos and his son Atreus find themselves at war with the
01:40Norse gods once again.
01:41As they journey through the nine realms, they face formidable enemies and the most terrifying
01:45foe of all is Thor, the heir to the throne of Asgard.
01:49Despite his beer belly and disheveled appearance, Thor proves his might in the first battle,
01:53quickly overwhelming Kratos with his immense strength.
01:56After a brutal encounter, Kratos faces certain death only for Thor to shock him back to life
02:01so he can kill him again.
02:03While the final showdown with Thor is far more epic, this unexpected twist remains one
02:07of Ragnarok's biggest WTF moments.
02:09For someone to be simply strong enough to kill Kratos once is wild, for them to be so
02:13strong and they bring him back just for a laugh is terrifying.
02:33Cutie's Fate It Takes Two
02:39So Rose made the elephant into a queen?
02:41Yeah, I guess so, it's her favourite toy.
02:43Oh perfect, so now we're killing a queen.
02:45Oh, pardon me, killing who?
02:47No, no, no, no, no, she said chilling.
02:50Yeah, chilling with the queen.
02:52We are really looking forward to chilling with her, right?
02:58In It Takes Two, when married couple Mae and Cody believe the way to break the curse placed
03:02upon them is to make their daughter cry, they take a shocking and brutal step.
03:06They murder her beloved elephant doll Cutie.
03:09In this unexpectedly harrowing interactive scene, both players must collaborate to drag
03:13Cutie towards the ledge, tear off one of her ears and ultimately push her off to her death,
03:18all while she pleads for mercy.
03:20We did not expect this moment of savagery that could rival the opening of Saving Private
03:23Ryan, but this painful and prolonged sequence will likely leave players momentarily stunned.
03:39The Cheese Mage, The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt.
03:48The Witcher 3 offers the opportunity to meet and interact with a wide variety of weird
03:52and interesting characters, but at the top of our WTF list is Aramis, the Tyromancer.
03:57Never heard of Tyromancy?
03:58Let me explain.
03:59While Geralt explores Aramis' estate and uncovers that the mage had been an avid practitioner
04:04of Tyromancy, the player learns that this is the art of predicting the future through
04:08cheese.
04:09Yep, cheese.
04:11This rare and unusual form of magic is typically practiced by mages who prefer solitude, as
04:16the cheese used in divination has a stench so foul it could rival a drowner's scent.
04:20It's no surprise then that Aramis' home remained untouched.
04:24No one would dare loot a place so foul smelling.
04:27Except me, because I love cheese.
04:34It's strange they didn't burn his stuff with him.
04:37Witch hunters let you resell it just like that?
04:40Why wouldn't they?
04:41These are common goods, some valuable, only as collectibles perhaps.
04:46The Arm Bionic Commando.
04:56In Bionic Commando, the protagonist Nathan, Rad Spencer's bionic arm, takes centre stage.
05:01Much like Joel Miller's revolver or Rick Grimes' trusty hatchet, it's not just a gameplay
05:05tool but a shocking narrative twist.
05:07Late in the story, it's revealed that the arm isn't just a mechanical attachment, it's
05:11infused with the consciousness of his deceased wife, Emily.
05:14This revelation explains the mysterious connection Spencer feels to the arm, and adds a bizarre
05:18emotional layer to the game.
05:20The twist is as unexpected as it is controversial, polarizing players and critics alike.
05:24I for one, think it's f***ing stupid.
05:27But that's just me.
05:31I never left, Nathan.
05:33It's you who was lost.
05:35I never wanted you to be involved in this.
05:38It's okay.
05:40I'll always be by your side.
05:43Radan's return, Elden Ring.
05:45My loyal blade, and champion of the festival.
05:52Both your deeds will ever be praised in song.
05:55Remember taking on Radan in Elden Ring?
05:57He was easily one of the most intense, massive and built up boss fights in the whole series.
06:02His sheer size combined with his epic maneuvering of the massive fight arena makes him easily
06:07one of the most memorable bosses in the game.
06:09Beating him feels like an achievement, with most players celebrating by jumping on their
06:13furniture and sharing their accomplishment with their friends.
06:16This is why in Elden Ring DLC's Shadow of the Erd Tree, Radan's return as the formidable
06:20final boss made every single player's jaw drop.
06:24Enhanced speed, enhanced brutality, enhanced ball ache.
06:47Colonel Glitch's Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty.
06:55...is to infiltrate the structure and disarm the terrorists.
06:58My role?
06:59Why do you keep saying that?
07:01Why not?
07:02This is a type of role playing game.
07:04The point is that you play out your part, and I expect you to turn in a perfect performance.
07:09In Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty, Colonel Campbell experiences strange glitches during
07:13the final moments of the game, which is later revealed to be part of the game's deeper narrative
07:17and themes.
07:19As the protagonist Radan progresses through the story, the Colonel's communication becomes
07:22increasingly erratic.
07:24His voice sometimes warps, his dialogue feels disjointed, and he behaves unnaturally.
07:29The actual moment of communication breaking down became synonymous with horror themes
07:32outside of horror games, with his dialogue breaking the fourth wall and making players
07:36feel almost as if their console had been hacked.
07:44The Guardian Ape, Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
07:55Brutal, unforgiving boss battles are a hallmark of FromSoftware games, and in Sekiro Shadows
08:01Die Twice, Guardian Ape is no exception.
08:04However, this boss stands out not just for its challenge, but for its uniquely primitive
08:08attacks.
08:09The massive white ape tries to poison the player with a cloud of his own flatulence,
08:13and if that doesn't succeed, it hurls its feces at you.
08:16I truly believe to this day, these would be my special attacks as well.
08:19Once you manage to decapitate the creature, relief sets in only for the ape to reanimate,
08:24holding its severed head, and launch into a terrifying second phase of the fight.
08:28Poop.
08:29Severed heads.
08:30WTF.
08:43Honey Bee in Final Fantasy VII Remake.
08:50You seek my approval, do you?
08:52While the Honey Bee Inn in the 1997 original Final Fantasy VII had its fair share of odd
08:57and unsettling moments, the scene that stands out in the 2020 remake is the unexpectedly
09:01sensual rhythm dance between Andrea and Cloud.
09:05The game is filled with quirky minigames, and the storyline surrounding the Honey Bee
09:08Inn is already bizarre.
09:10This new addition in the Final Fantasy VII Remake perfectly captures the absurdity and
09:14unique tone of this particular subplot, blending humour, surprise, and a touch of surreal eroticism.
09:20Is it a bit of a hard left turn for Cloud?
09:22Sure.
09:23Did it attract a new genre of cloud thirst for some gamers?
09:26Clearly.
09:39World War II section Death Stranding.
09:45Phew.
09:46Phew.
10:10In Death Stranding, there is a segment where the players encounter a World War II themed
10:14area, which stands out for its eerie and surreal atmosphere.
10:17This section involves a flashback to a battle during World War II where the player navigates
10:21through a ghostly abandoned environment.
10:23The area is filled with military equipment and remnants of the war, but it's also shrouded
10:27in a supernatural atmosphere with cryptic symbols and strange occurrences.
10:31At this point in the game, for any moment to stand out and make us go WTF means some
10:35serious weirdness was going on.
10:44GLaDOS becomes a potato Portal 2.
11:13In Portal 2, a pivotal and admittedly humorous moment occurs when GLaDOS is reduced to a
11:18potato.
11:19Do I need to explain who GLaDOS is for this entry?
11:21Just play the game.
11:22It's very funny.
11:23She's a potato.
11:24After a series of events, the player and GLaDOS are forced to escape Aperture Science's facility.
11:28In the process, a turret sabotages GLaDOS's core, resulting in her being physically disconnected
11:33from her mainframe and placed inside said potato battery.
11:37In this new form, GLaDOS becomes a more vulnerable, sarcastic, and ironically more sympathetic
11:42character, still maintaining her sharp wit.
11:44It's comical, it's unexpected, it's Portal 2.
11:51Sinner's Sandwich Deadly Premonition
11:58The Sinner's Sandwich in Deadly Premonition became infamous for its out-of-pocket charm.
12:02A unique restaurant request, it's a bizarre combination of turkey, strawberry jam, and
12:06cereal, which protagonist York describes as a way to cleanse one's sins.
12:11The weirdness of the recipe fits the quirky tone of the game, and it has since become
12:14a meme among fans.
12:16Players often highlight it as a symbol of Deadly Premonition's offbeat humour, amongst
12:20the plethora of examples this incredibly weird game brings.
12:23Sorry, I said plethora.
12:25A bright, bouncing boy, Red Dead Redemption 2
12:56Red Dead Redemption 2 delivers one of the most heart-breaking narratives in gaming,
13:01yet Rockstar still injected humour and eccentricity into its side-quests and random encounters,
13:06such as the Stranger's Mission, A Bright Bouncing Boy.
13:09What starts as a remote-controlled boat demonstration soon spirals into a Frankenstein-esque attempt
13:15to bring a robot to life, an experiment that briefly succeeds, much to our surprise, considering
13:20tonally it didn't match the rest of the game.
13:22After completing the quest, revisiting the location reveals the inventor dead and the
13:26robot atop a snowy mountain, mournfully repeating the word, Papa.
13:34Screw it, this deserves the full line.
13:35What the fuck?
13:37The Secret, 12 Minutes
13:39But we need to be on the same page.
13:43These feelings for my daughter.
13:46Your sister.
13:47Taboo subjects can create a shocking twist, especially when they appear unexpectedly,
13:51as seen in 12 Minutes.
13:53In this game, the protagonist and his pregnant wife are trapped in a time loop where they
13:57are repeatedly killed by an intruder.
13:59The gimmick of the game is that you live the same 12-minute cycle, allowing different choices
14:03to create different outcomes, much in the same vein as Outer Wilds and Deathloop.
14:07The story takes a disturbing turn with an end-game twist that reveals the couple are
14:12actually half-siblings.
14:13The revelation that the protagonist is not only married to his half-sister, but also
14:17expecting a child with her adds an additional layer of ewww.
14:20This decision sparked significant backlash from players and critics, but seriously guys,
14:25watch Game of Thrones, I found myself rooting for siblings to kiss by the end of that.
14:29I can't say that.
14:30Hey, it's only by forgetting that we ever really drop the threat of time and approach
14:34the experience of living in the present moment.
14:39You read that one, eh?
14:41Fourth Wall Break, Batman Arkham Asylum.
14:48In Batman Arkham Asylum, one of the weirder moments occurs during a sequence where players
14:52experience a fake glitch mimicking a game crash.
14:55It's pretty spot on too, as it lasts just long enough for players to get up and reset
14:59their console.
15:00Trust me.
15:01This happens as Batman confronts Scarecrow, who unleashes his fear toxin, Warping Reality.
15:06The screen suddenly freezes, then resets to an earlier part of the game, creating the
15:10illusion of a malfunction.
15:11Instead of replaying the earlier section as normal, roles are reversed, with Joker seemingly
15:15capturing Batman.
15:16Game and reality become blurred, roles are reversed, everything feels off, and it takes
15:20a minute to realise it's meant to be.
15:32First Tear Opening, Bioshock Infinite.
15:43In Bioshock Infinite, players get introduced to the mysterious power of Elizabeth.
15:47As Booker and Elizabeth explore Columbia, she reveals her ability to open tears, or
15:51windows to alternate realities.
15:53Now, technically the first demonstration occurs where Elizabeth opens the tear to a modern
15:58street with a movie theatre showing Revenge of the Jedi, but the true WTF moment is when
16:02you are actually with her as a team, and she opens the tear to an open window, revealing
16:06that they are doors to alternate realities, with Elizabeth being able to bring things
16:10back and forth between the worlds.
16:12The moment ends with a mysterious pterodactyl-like creature about to attack, before Elizabeth
16:16closes the tear at the last second.
16:28White Phosphorus, Spec Ops The Line.
16:44You ask anyone the most WTF moment in gaming, it's likely you'll see this on the list.
16:49This was the first time playing a video game has made me feel guilty, except when I played
16:52Barbie and the Three Musketeers on the 3DS, and enjoyed myself.
16:56I will warn you, this scene is pretty harrowing.
16:58Walker stumbles upon what seems like an entire platoon of enemies, and must decide whether
17:02or not to use the White Phosphorus mortar.
17:04The game then forces you to commit a war crime to keep going.
17:08It turns out that the targets were actually civilians seeking shelter.
17:12It's as harrowing and dark as it gets, especially considering the results of White Phosphorus
17:17are so awful you'd feel bad even if they turned out to be Nazis.
17:25There's no camp here.
17:27They took them from the nest.
17:31That hotel back at the storm wall?
17:33No, no, no, those can't be the civvies that got kidnapped.
17:36It's not possible.
17:40Decapitation Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus.
17:44Have you ever heard of someone making a full recovery from decapitation?
17:55Yeah, me neither.
17:57In Wolfenstein 2 The New Colossus, one of the most WTF moments occurs when protagonist
18:02Billy is captured by the Nazis, and publicly executed by decapitation.
18:06The scene is visceral and unexpected, leaving players mourning the end of his story.
18:11However, Billy's allies recovery severed head and surgically attach it to a powerful
18:15genetically enhanced body.
18:17This moment blends horror with dark humour, exemplifying the game's over-the-top storytelling
18:22and Billy's resilience.
18:23He truly cannot be stopped.
18:26We need to give his brain oxygenated blood, or it will die.
18:34Brain activity.
18:39Think Tank Fallout New Vegas.
18:41You are lying.
18:44No, you are not.
18:47Your heartbeat, perspiration, all excessively confident and sure of yourself.
18:54Why would you reason with that maniac?
18:57He'll destroy us all.
18:58The Think Tank in Fallout New Vegas' Old World Blues DLC is a bizarre and comedic highlight
19:03that is also deeply disturbing.
19:05There seems to be a common theme with WTF entries, combining comedy with darkness.
19:09This group of eccentric pre-war scientists transferred their brains into robotic shells
19:14to escape mortality, but centuries of isolation have left them hilariously dysfunctional.
19:19Each member has a wildly unique personality, ranging from narcissistic to paranoid, and
19:24their interactions are filled with absurd banter.
19:27Despite their vast intelligence, they're often clueless, mistaking simple concepts for advanced
19:32science.
19:33The knowledge that one of the scientists erased the memories of the others adds a layer of
19:37disturbance that is hard to escape.
19:39And your theory of brain-gill-beam oscillation?
19:42The Chinese had it first, you copycat!
19:46How dare you!

20:034. The Last of Us Part II
20:07Joel.
20:14Y'all act like you heard of us or something.
20:16This is it.
20:17This is the one.
20:18This is the only moment in gaming that left every single player's jaw on the floor whilst
20:22exhaling a shocked, what the f**k.
20:26Joel's story in The Last of Us Part II delivers one of gaming's most shocking twists.
20:31The build-up, the tension and the chilling inevitability make it a masterclass in storytelling.
20:36The Last of Us was celebrated as one of the most beloved narratives in gaming history,
20:40with fans spending seven years speculating about Joel and Ellie's future.
20:44Few, if any, could have predicted this outcome.
20:46With a death only half as brutal as some of the deaths he himself enacted, we shouldn't
20:50have been shocked that Joel met a gruesome end.
20:53We didn't, however, expect it to happen so soon and so unceremoniously.
20:59Joel, please get up!
